  1. This one needs no introduction. I asked Russ about this cover way back in the 1990s and he didn't recall it as being anything special. Definitely different times.
  2. I've commented a few times about how well drawn that skeleton is, especially the left arm.
  3. There's a lot of Burgos overlap with the Atlas stuff, impossible to say what was and wasn't. Even Combat 5, which looks all Heath and is signed by him, is signed Burgos & Heath on the OA.
  4. Worst case scenario it's neutral as they are essentially just "buying" the book from you which they can then sell for the same amount.
  5. Love it! I think this is a very underrated cover. Got any more Palo Altos? They aren't often seen.
  6. I think it will be a good way to look at them. In the '54-'55 period it seemed like he really became the go-to guy for the war books, and he was firing on all cylinders at that point. I'd love to extend it into the 1970s, but he was mostly at DC in the 60s & 70s and they used him for interior work with the exception of GI Combat.
  7. Yes. But they are separate entities under that umbrella.
  8. To be fair, CGC did their job on this book. It was CCS that botched it. CGC took the book that was handed to them and graded it. It's not really a QC issue with them. I would be lighting up Matt's phone on this one.
  9. Sticking with the war chronology, the higher ups at Atlas must have liked what they saw from Russ after a few months because in June of '52 he had 7 covers on the stands.
  10. The OA exists to this one, unfortunately it's a stat.
  11. I was going to post all the Russ Heath Atlas war covers chronologically in the Atlas thread, but someone asked if I could start a separate thread so as to include other works of his. Sounds like a great idea to me, and I hope he and others will join in. To start things off, here are the first 4 war covers he did for Atlas.
  12. How would CGC knows who owns a comic once it changes hands?
  13. Definitely an early Atlas feel to this one. But a pretty great cover layout and image. I would imagine it would look even better as a full image.
  14. I'm going to try and post all of Heath's war covers (with the exception of Combat Kelly, because those don't excite me) in chronological order. It's kind of cool to see how his style and talent evolved. First one was Battle 6. You can see that he's trying to capture a scene, but it's almost Schomburgian in how complicated things got. Over time he refined this and became better at illustrating the narrative more succinctly.
  15. This question bothered me so much a few years ago I finally just put everything alphanumeric regardless of age or genre. There are times I want to restructure, but it's been less bothersome to have them this way so I'm sticking with it.
  16. Wild guess, Walter Johnson
