  1. I went yesterday and had a decent time, prly 9.0 or 9.2 overall. Getting a witness from the CGC booth was huge hassle tbh - I got in line when we arrived around 11 for a witness, went out with a group of people around 11:40, finally got to the first artists I was looking for sigs on around 12:15, made it to the 2nd around 12:45 to find out she was only in her booth 1-3. At that point the witness had to be somewhere else and checked out, so my options were: try to enjoy the con, or get back in line, which was longer at that point than when we had arrived, so we opted to punt on the remaining signatures, walk around & check out the other floors. I had about 7 or 8 other books I was hoping to be witnessed/signed, but the prospect of waiting another hour in line for a witness and then have the artist maybe be there and maybe not just didn't seem worth it. Also there were people queued up 3 deep at the end of the day trying to get the paperwork submitted, so in the end I think I did ok just getting my one artist signatures. It was my first time getting books signed myself, so maybe I just did it wrong. There seemed to be an inverse relationship between interacting with the CGC and enjoying being at the con. I thought it was absolutely jammed - and from what I heard, yesterday was the 'calm' day - so I can't imagine trying to get any sigs Fri/Sat. We only had a total of about 6 hours to spend, a third of which was spent getting those initial signatures. I don't know if I'd go again - and if I do, I won't bother with getting books signed myself - I'll happily pay a facilitator fee rather than deal with that again. Fwiw, the books I did get signed I was very happy with; I bought 2 exclusives on the floor, unfortunately one had significant damage that I didn't notice in the moment - it was cool to see Mack, Maleev, Miller, Artgerm (surprisingly tall!), Claremont & Momoko in person, and the cosplay (KenPool and Barbie Quinn were amazing) around the rest of the con was great.
  2. I believe you need go to the CGC table first & get a witness to go with you - if CGC doesn't see the signature, you'll get a green rather than yellow label when you submit the book.
  3. Anyone know if Bill Sienkiewicz is there? He's no longer listed on the website as a guest (he was for a while)
  4. I just got back an SS ME submission of 4 books - 2 of those books were returned with light, but clear and obvious scuffs on the back covers of the slabs, and 1 with a noticeable interior scratch: It literally took me 30s to spot them once the books were in hand. Pretty clearly not from shipping either, as the 4th book was completely fine. The main issue is - this is the 3rd time these specific books have gone back for Mechanical Errors. This scuffs on this round are the least noticeable, so I think rather than risk yet another round of 'Quality Control' I'm just going to keep them (no near term plans to sell them anyway). Additionally I noticed a small non-color breaking crease on one of the books which definitely wasn't there on the last submission. CGC: Please: have the Quality Control step do some basic due diligence before shipping the books. The scuffs on the back covers of these slabs are completely obvious and there's just no reason for them to have been returned like this.
  5. thx @juniorMC - good info to have & thx for the post with prices on the signatures. I hope they work out the kinks by Sunday - I doubt my 12yo will be too keen on waiting in an hour long line rather than looking for Funkos.... I may have to lower my expectations on how much I can get accomplished. : /
  6. Source? I didn't see anything on nytimes or nypost. Also, it's NYC: they're probably always prepping for social unrest lol. I'm headed to NYCC on Sunday & would love to hear general experiences board members are having - good, bad or ugly!
  7. There are a few books I've seen here and there that have a green CGC Certified label & I think would actually be pretty great with a custom character label - is it possible to get a custom / character label with a Qualified label, or are you limited to just the plain green label...?
  8. I'm wondering this as well @Thawk - but slightly different - I'm planning on bringing a sketch cover to NYCC in a couple weeks; I prepped a window bag for it but it seems... dumb... the edges of the bag cover the edges of the book, sure, and I'm not losing much cover real estate, but it seems like it'd probably be easier to just hand the book to the artist?
  9. @x7neil @BbqP.Bun85 Captured Collectibles is now showing the SF FanExpo as an option in the submission form
  10. Right? I don’t understand how this doesn’t trigger something to send it back for another press. If I’m sending a book in to be pressed, I’m not sending the book in for a quick walk through the pressing room, the expectation is that the pressing resolves as many of the issues as it can, and if it gets to the graders and theres still ‘light creasing’ that tells me that the pressers didn't do their job, and the grader should send it back for additional work.
  11. #282 9.2/9.4 $15 #293 9.6 $40 @ 25% off - thx!
  12. Take the 285 9.2 @ 20% off - thx!
  13. @x7neil I would not be surprised if facilitators start popping up for the SF show in a week or two - I think everyone is busy prepping for NYCC, and once that rush dies down hopefully we'll see some CGC facilitators in the submission list who are headed to SF - seems like a pretty big show...
  14. No doubt. But I think, to your point, high grade books shouldn't need to be pressed, yet apparently the only way to try to retain the higher grade after a signing seems to be that you have to press it, otherwise your 9.8 comes back an 8.5. So, somewhere, along the line, the books are being damaged which is not great.
  15. Hi @MattM CS - thanks for the response & appreciate the clarification. One could argue that this should be a customer level choice though - I'd much prefer to pay $5 for the label, have a delay in the order, and pay $20 for shipping the entire order, rather than the current system of not have the delay and paying double shipping (and not having a choice). I would also argue that the current turnaround times don't really justify a 'delay' as a reason to separate out shipping costs - if I'm going to wait a month or more to get a book pressed and graded, I'd much rather wait the extra 2 weeks for the custom label book, combine the orders and save the shipping fees. Although I guess if you're a customer paying for Fast Track and time is a concern, splitting the shipping might be the right call - but I still think it should be the customer's choice rather than just 'this is how we do it'. Thx!
  16. I'm curious as to the rationale here - if you as a submitter are required to ship the custom label book separately, it's not an extra $5, it's an extra $25 - which is a lot of money for a label. Can't they just all be shipped together?
  17. Just for clarity - you sent in a graded 9.8 but opted not to get it pressed after the signing, correct? mine wasn't graded, but I have high confidence in the presser and didn't think it would need to be pressed again: lesson learned. Fingers crossed for 9.8s all around...
  18. I would also like to give a big thanks to @DELTA 62 - I've sent in a few books across a handful of conventions and so far they've all gone very well - including some on-the-spot decision making that could have gone totally sideways, but was handled very smoothly. @DELTA 62was the first facilitator I worked with and has (especially after working with a handful of others) totally spoiled me. Communication is great, responses are quick, having pics of the signed books before they enter the void of CGC is the icing on the cake. My only complaint is that I wish @DELTA 62 went to more shows!
