  1. Whoa, that's awesome! Now I need one! And echoing Hector, yeah, these may be RELATIVELY hard to find, but the thread clearly proves that Image newsstands ARE out there if you're willing to dig. Here's another Deathblow 1 for ya, the third I've found in the last couple of months. Not exactly rare, but fun to chase, nonetheless.
  2. The other two were just guilty by association!
  3. Yeah, just had two come back 9.6, and on the one book I pretty quickly found what I'd missed (although it was indeed a tiny defect, and I have seen worse on 9.8's before....but I digress) but on the second book I couldn't see what I was missing at all. Maybe something that was hidden after encapsulation? Notes on the specific defect would help me learn what not to send in (if I'm hoping for a 9.8) but then again, why would CGC want to discourage me from sending stuff in? 9.6 or 9.8, they get paid all the same.
  4. For me, grading and slabbing is only important for books I'm going to sell. I only care about 9.8's when I want to get 9.8 money for a book. For my personal collection, I just get a book that I'm happy with. The difference in a 9.6 and a 9.8 can be so miniscule, that when I'm buying it just for ME, I'm happy to get the nicest copy I can at a price I want to pay. And with very few exceptions (my Aliens set, which I DID chase in 9.8, and now it's done!) I'm content to have a really sharp looking book in a mylar and fullback, slab and little white sticker grade be damned.
  5. Wow. There is...a lot going on, on that cover.
  6. Agreed. I mean, I wasn't there or anything, but the pics show a very impressive set up for a grand opening, and it seems like you have your ducks in a row. You can't make everyone happy, so just keep doing what you're doing.
  7. Got these back yesterday, the first sub I've done in a couple of years. A truly random assortment of books, I've decided to start subbing some stuff to sell, and these were near the top of the pile and seemed to be in nice shape. Since it's been a while, I was curious to see how my grading stacked up to what I understand is a tight period for CGC. They came back about as expected. No pressing, didn't want to take any time to go through that rigmarole, so these are just as God made them. I'd have rather the two 9.6's had turned out 9.8, obviously, but since I only paid $1 each for the books themselves, I'm still doing fine. I'm also surprised that there aren't more of that Ross Superman book in the census, or more recorded sales. May throw that sucker up on eBay as an auction and see where it lands. As always, apologies for the pics. Maybe one day I'll care enough to get a scanner, but today is not that day! PS: This is my first experience with the "new" cases, and I like 'em! I like that thick outer ridge. No real newton or puddling issues with mine that I've noticed so far.
  8. As a dedicated Hughes and LoSH collector, I have picked up a bunch of the regular cover out of boxes over the years, but I don't think I've ever run across the DCU variant. And there's no way I'm paying a premium for it, as I'm sure there are more of these in bargain boxes I just haven't found yet.
  9. That's awesome! I shared a story a few months ago, about watching a kid (probably 14 or 15) with his Dad at my LCS, talking about the money he needed to buy a Planet comic off of the wall. He asked to see it, handled it very gently, and bought it. I know there's a lot of doom and gloom on the boards these days about mass sell-offs and market crashing, but there is at least a LITTLE bit of new blood coming into the hobby. And they have good taste!
  10. For a DC Comics fighting game? Yup! I'd take Mazing Man and Captain Carrot over Spawn, since, again, it's a DC Universe fighting game. Throw all of the indie characters into their own game, if that's what people want.
  11. You more than ANYONE should realize that Dave's not here, man.
  12. Nice! Sold mine a couple of years ago, kinda wish I hadn't. Enjoy!
  13. Ugh. I wish they'd stop shoe-horning Mortal Kombat and Indie characters into a DC game, and give us more, you know, DC characters. Since it's a DC game. With DC characters. From DC Comics. You know?
  14. Precisely so. Much like miscuts, they don't downgrade for them...until they do. Have to hope you come up on the right side of the coin toss.
  15. Wow, that is really something. If my shipment comes next week, and my Transformers Generation 2 9.8 has been magically transformed into an AF 15, I'm leaving the country, never to be heard from again!
  16. moved to "Shipped/Safe" today, 8/24. Received 7/31, MFT.
  17. 40, no kids because kids are, like, the worst. And I don't want to share my toys.
  18. AND almost as soon as it was scheduled, it moved to Graded...like within an hour or so. Let's see if it moves any farther down the line today!
  19. 6 Books modern FT Received 7/31 Today 8/21 finally moved to Sched for Grading (15th business day)
  20. Did some picking yesterday...at my folks' house! Mom asked if I'd help clean out a storage room in the basement, and I ended up finding some stuff I'd left there long ago. You don't see this Valentine book every day. The covers have some issues, but the book is complete, unpunched, and super bright. And the Sof Boy, well I'd forgotten about him entirely!
  21. I'm gonna find one of these SOME day! Congrats!
  22. There are advantages to both, to be sure, but these days I'm leaning more towards a mylar and fullback. They display so nicely AND you can easily extract the book for any reason. Slabs are very protective and also attractive, but (especially with the new design) if you want to get your book out, you're in for a world of pain.
  23. And not only was it not planned, it was created by a need to try to squeeze more money out of the book than it was actually worth (based on the condition it was in at time of purchase.) Ok, that's it, I'm out!
  24. I don't think they're related in any way, but it's Friday and not looking for a fight, so you do what works for you, bud!
  25. Happy ending, yay! True, there's still a long road ahead of you, but so often there is no recovery in these situations. It's so heartening to see it work out.
