  1. I was thinking the same thing...will start a thread tallying the kudos soon and if folks like the idea they can put it in their location and if not, we can let the tally thread die a quick death (if folks don't like it ) or be used as an ongoing resource (if folks do like it )
  2. If I remember right he was on the probation list a while back. Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but I believe there was some sort of major difficulty with bulk lot deals he was selling. To the best of my knowledge, he eventually made good and was removed from the list. Never dealt with him personally (that I remember at any rate), so not much to add except for the above. As for placing him on the list, my understanding is that it is your descretion if the was 30 days or more ago.
  3. we could also have a kudos forum, and each member has a thread with their kudos in it and a link to said thread in their sig IMO the kudo thread as we have it just doesnt work Definitely agree with you there...almost impossible to use if you only have a few minutes (which is how long most good deals on here last ) Very unwieldy and hard to follow as it is. Pretty good idea my friend
  4. And that would be IDEAL in my mind I think that would involve the mods though would it not? Think others have indicated that they want nothing to do with this area of the boards. Seriously though, I would love for the boards to be able to do that...
  5. well how bout we just quote the original post and add to the # of kudos? kinda like the HOS/PROBATION thread with a positive meaning? Mark Thinking that might make for a pretty unwieldy list fairly quickly, may be misthinking your suggestion though...got an example of how that might work (I am thinking ahead to when we have a couple hundred names on the list and not much room for the comments/kudos themselves) edit: Are you suggesting updating the list one kudo at a time and then removing the text with the next post/kudo? Feel free to monkey with the sample list I made to see if it works well obviously it would be alot larger then the probie lest , so maybe break it down to 3 threads? a-h, i-p, q-z, and have an alphebetical list with #s next to each name. if u and I have a good dealing, I go into the q-z list and copy and paste the list with a new # next to your name and instead of giving kudos after each transaction, we all agree to do it once a month or so..? probably not the best idea, but most good ideas are tweeked versions of bad ideas, so might as well offer it up interesting idea... almost would have to do that one as a going forward thing I would think (not that I am opposed to that at all). Thinking of re-wiring the kudos altogether then? For what it is worth...the kudos are a bit of a pain to go through, so it might be that both ideas would have a place...anyone have a preference or more thoughts?

  7. And they are welcome to do so, kudos are strictly voluntary. However, by choosing such they do not leave info for other buyers in the future so we can't include PMs in the equation. Some folks (like me unfortuntely) often forget to leave kudos all together and also will have a lower tally as a result...just trying to work with the info we have, and maybe it will encourage more folks to leave the kudos once the transaction is complete (thumbs u
  8. well unless someone detects a problem with someone else miscounting...I think starting with anyone willing to comb through and put in the effort would be a good starting point (doubt there will be tons of volunteers as it is not so much fun). There is the need, however, to be somewhat careful while counting due to folks quoting old posts in responses and perhaps using first names instead of board handles...so some Kudos are inevitably going to get missed or double counted. Kind of like any data project we would have to be willing to live with a margin of error I think
  9. 9/12/10 KUDOS LIST UPDATE ONGOING TALLIES The following list is a complete counting of KUDOS received by forum members dating from September 9, 2010 to present. If a number follows the name of the boardie that means multiple kudos are present (thumbs u Congrats for being great buyers and sellers everyone Blue808 Cloudofwit Dover Frankbearss (+2) Golddust Hesdeadjim Marvelfangirl Pinky Lee Zepplin Rich Henn Shark Somewhereintexas Something like this perhaps???
  10. Some good discussion here I think (thumbs u So far the least intrusive and easiest changes would be adding of kudos to the OP of the sales thread and the posting of a welcome/advisement in sellers with the post count of 100 or below? Two possible ways to get rolling on both with suggestions for changes and improvements most welcome... 1. Open a thread in the comic sales section where we can work as a group going backward through the kudos thread and keeping a running tally. Just count kudos and add names to the list with each post...for example set up a template like the probation list with the following info Total Kudos for members dating from September 9, 2010 to present Blue808 Cloudofwit Dover Frankbearss (+2) Golddust Hesdeadjim Marvelfangirl Pinky Lee Zepplin Rich Henn Shark Somewhereintexas Then as boardies have time we can work the list backwards...i.e. later tonight maybe I run it back through September 7, 2010 and offer that as the next post (thumbs u ------------------------------------- As for the advisement on new sellers, perhaps it could take the form of a welcome and warning of sorts about the experiences related by Boozad and be posted in a thread of a seller with less than 100 posts similar to the post that goes in if folks don't put prices or sell pgx books, etc.... BTW edits to make this better would be MOST welcome Welcome to the Forum Selling area. We are always happy to encourage new buyers and sellers to join the community. Just wanted to offer some friendly advise on how to maximize your sales. Due to some incidents in the past many folks are cautious of relatively unknown members offering sales. You may want to post references or if you are willing to ship prior to payment. We have also noticed that some books are GREAT sellers here, and others tend to struggle. Take some time to review past threads, post in discussion sections, and PM other boardies. This will help you get to know your buyers and let them get to know you Hopefully that will help you figure out the best books to sell and how to present them well (thumbs u Again as a new seller we welcome you and hope you have a great sale! So what does everyone think??? SE
  11. Interesting...was not sold on post count, but five of the eleven on the list with post counts (one was blank) are below the 100 post threshold. A sixth (BATMANFAN) has a low enough count that he may have been under 100 at the time of the problem that got him on probation. I imagine if we do a sample of all sellers and buyers we would quite possibly find a fairly significant difference in average post count or members under 100 posts. Have to see if I still have my Systat software package and run some numbers. [where is the research geek graemlin???] I certainly think it is an idea with debating. It really isn't a terrible burden to post 100 times before selling, I would think. Drawback of course being it would be difficult to ensure meaningful posts and not just 100 graemlins or random posts in a testing 1 2 3 thread. Other element would be a general understanding that it would not be considered inappropriate etiquette to mention such and the accepted rule in the sales threads of such members. Does anyone think such a guideline would be inappropriate or ill-advised in any way? Personally, I think it is potentially a good idea and definitely worth checking out/thinking over Perhaps a survey soliciting opinions on such would be helpful too (for those boardies who know how to generate such things and aren't the Luddite that I am)
  12. Agreed...was tossing out ideas...not particularly wed to any of them with the exception that it just does not feel right to allow first time posters to sell. I have yet to take a hit, but that was only thanks to a couple of timely PMs that I was about to buy from a shill for a probation list member. I understand the necessity of policing yourself, but also I feel there has to be something else that can be done to safeguard people more generally. Maybe something simple yet time consuming (some sort of master kudos list posted once per month, like we have a probation list with everyone on it) or something more effortful like the minimum buys or community service requirements It's all just that nagging feeling that something could be done better, but have no idea what it might be...kind of a whole Spider Sense is tingling phenomena If nothing else, just simple discussion is helpful as it allows others to see that there have been some recent problems and alerts them to be careful (thumbs u Thanks for the thoughts guys
  13. Very sorry to see that folks got burned again. Only been here a year, but it seems to me that this is on the increase in terms of the number of threads that have been fraudulent in some way or another. Maybe a boardie with a longer history can chime in and let us know if that is the case. Anyway, I bailed on his thread when I saw the response to my question about references. Did not want to seem overly harsh on the new guy, but an inactive eBay account just did not do it for me. Hope that everyone can do chargebacks and get their funds back...unfortunately some really great people got taken again here. There seems to be regular debate popping up repeatedly on ways to make the marketplace safer, but then the talk usually dies down pretty quick. I know this tags me as a state employee, but maybe a small committee to debate some ideas via pm or phone, and then return to the larger group with a list of proposals or discussion points would be helpful? Unrelated to Grimace (more of a MachineGunned issue)... I know not everyone agrees with this, but just my two cents...to me selling in the marketplace is a privilege (in my mind akin to driving a car), and should not a right (such as voting). It really should not be acceptable to hop on the boards and have a sale with your first post. The board admins will not stop this from happening, and largely go hands off in this section. Therefore, it is up to us to put community guidelines in place. But even though we know it is not safe to do so, we jump at the perceived bargains sometimes. Some serious thought should really be given to this, because it seems that as a group we are unable to resist (I know some individuals do, but a number do not). Not sure how to stop this, but some brainstorming may be helpful. For example, is it a good idea to require three public completed successfully before being allowed to sell? If not, can we post warnings in the thread without being accused of being bad citizens or thread crappers? Or is it OK to comment in thread regarding someone signing up one day before the sales thread without looking like a *fork* (I honestly think some do not check before buying). Or should we just let the forces of unrestrained capaitalism to work their will and let people continue to get burned? No answers unfortunately on my end, but feel a good long talk about seeking to update the rules/requirements might be in order. (thumbs u And for what it is worth, I would be glad to help out in any way if needed Hope everyone has a great weekend, Heath
  14. Soooooo, that suppository greggy sent claiming to be the entire board history files isn't really it? It totally is...he's just jealous he didn't get one...make sure to take your Greggy issued suppositories folks (thumbs where's Flee when you need him for a Friday thread that has legs??? Snake Eyes who is ready for some entertaining photoshop madness
  15. Never bought from him, but he is a boardie (Calamerica) ...send him a PM, I am sure he will be happy to get you a list of references (thumbs u
  16. As I recall, there were the multiple failed transactions, some of which still appear unresolved. Aggravating this was a pattern of deception and promising a resolution/shipment when one was not forthcoming. Also without referring back, I believe there was a repeat offender element where there was some sort of problem in the distant past as well. Could be wrong, but I believe someone can jump in and give more detail if I have that right.
  17. Offensive pm received from him as well...
  18. If you are talking about mine, they did not...just posted something that was already said just prior so I edited it out. What's different from any other time you post? Now that's just not nice Just because I am repetitive is no reason to call me out on it!

  21. That's a bit of an understatement. I don't think it is. sure it was an expenssive book, and apparantly put the seller in a bad situation, but that shouldnt make him any more eligable for the HOS then if it were a $1.00 book that he didnt pay for . in the end its the act not the value . and considering (to my knowledge) TFL had a bad (very bad) dealing with a single member vs the 4 or 5 that Danimal is involved with, makes Danimal(IMO) much more worthy of a HOS spot then TFL is. again, just my . I don't think it was just the five-figure dollar value that resulted in the HOS bump. Stringing the seller along for months and months with promises of payment contributed. As did the utter lack of remorse after backing out of the deal. But I think the biggest factor was the hypocrisy regarding restitution for expenses. If I recall correctly, TFL had someone back out of a deal for a ~$100 book which he subsequently sold for less than the original deal. TFL wanted the original buyer to make up his "loss" on the book. This occurred shortly after TFL had refused responsibility for the seller's losses (interest charges, declining a higher offer, etc) on the book that he had backed out on. I believe it was at THIS point that TFL got nominated for the Probation List. The seller had otherwise been willing to let it go, but got pissed about the double standard. Of course I may have misremembered some of the details... The $$ amount does make a difference. Failing to pay for a cheap book isn't likely to hurt the seller but TFL's failure to pay for an expensive book cost the seller an opportunity to sell the book elsewhere and cost the seller significant $$ in interest. I think there is something to what Tortoise is saying though. While the amount of money would certainly matter to a criminal prosecution (i.e. theft by deception second degree vs. third degree or something like that). However, we must keep in mind that a wide variety of people are represented on this board, and what may seem like a lot of money to some folks is negligible to others. For example, $100 is not much for an order to me; but $1000 is. Similarly, someone might see my $100 order and think that would set them back quite a bit. So without knowing someone's personal financial situation we cannot say just how hurt they were by the act  Therefore, not knowing this (in the case of the folks apparently taken by Danimal) caution would suggest we assume the worst and take the larger step (HOS vs. probation) to protect the community from such shennanigans in the future. Of course, this is pretty much the same as the argument about laws for enhanced sentencing in hate crimes. Do we punish the act only, or do we also add weight to the reason/thought processes. Reasonable minds differ and doubt a strong consensus will be reached. I think the vote started by Bosco is probably the best way to determine this issue. Someone should probably start a thread in general to direct folks here, but felt it was not my place since I was not in one of these transactions.
  22. So has anyone received what they purchased ? Ive only got an unread pm Forget it, he's a deadbeat. He is on the probation list where he belongs. What gets me is he spent a lot of time smearing 2 other boardies before he did this. I will take my lumps for not seeing he was a potential problem. No kidding...he was definitely in attack dog mode in the threads about that old Detective Comic that involved his friend and I believe Dr. Frankenstein's (may not have that name quite right) meltdown. Hate to get all Freudian, but PROJECT much there? Almost Jimmy Swaggart like in magnitude
