  1. This is new to me. Very odd seeing the swastika openly displayed right at the Eiffel Tower 3 years before the invasion.
  2. love the watches and I'm assuming the boxes are pretty tough to come by.
  3. More interesting info and I can definitely understand the hesitance of the government to free up the radio waves so soon after the war. I guess my main surprise is that it lasted so long. There's obviously a much different mindset when a war like that is fought in your own backyard.
  4. Wow, that's great stuff and thanks for taking the time to post it. It's very interesting how the war changed the radio landscape in France for so long. I would have assumed that they would have had all kinds of private stations as soon as the Germans left. 1982 is very surprising to me.
  5. Cool. Was the French OTR heyday about the same time as in the U.S? Did they have a lot of original programming or was it mostly French versions of the U.S. shows?
  6. This is a beaut but it's not an original. So this wouldn't be a Fantazia copy unless they mistakenly stated they were all originals. It's odd that the Church #1 Mr. B sold to Metro is an original but the Church #2 isn't.
  7. It obviously stinks to find out a book has resto when you didn't think it did but this is a beautiful copy. I love how it looks like the guy in the foreground is trying to climb out of the cover circle.
  8. I missed that thread with the large CI rack and it's a style I haven't seen being sold before. Here are the pics from the other post and hopefully others will be adding some racks from the different publishers.
  9. Lots of interesting info in there and Dan Malan sure had a passion for Classics Illustrated. Besides the ones you posted and I posted in the other thread, I think I've only seen 3 other styles of wire rack for sale or in a collection. One spinner rack, one 15 pocket wall rack and one 18 (?) pocket rack that leaned against a wall. I've seen 7 or 8 of the .25 cent countertop version and it's by far the most common of the wire racks (including one on Hakes a few years ago). I've also seen one large wooden rack like the one from Heritage that you posted on the previous page , but it had brown wood and slightly different text and prices on the yellow plates.
  10. The Metro #1 is "only" a CGC 8.5 though so it doesn't seem that these were Church books. It's an interesting story and I just re-read it in my copy of WWCN. I don't recall reading a follow-up but it's been 6 or 7 years since I read my copies of WWCN and The Classics Collector. I have all the issues after this one and will read through them when I get back from a trip next week to see if any follow-up articles were written. Assuming no one has chimed in by then.
  11. Very cool catalogs. I love the color pics of all the models and would have never put down the monster catalog if I saw that when I was a kid.
  12. Thanks and I missed the rack thread you started but just found it and gave it a bump. Very interesting thread and I hope you continue it.
  13. What a great Dell rack. Would love to find one of these some day. Hopefully it's filled with good comics now.
  14. Well said about the Jones book. Yes, I'm an OTR fan and that Dunning book is awesome (makes a good book end too). For those that don't know, it's full of historical info and background from a few paragraphs long to 4 or 5 pages long on practically every old radio show made. Lots of OTR on my "someday" list but my favorites so far are Gunsmoke, Dragnet, Yours Truly Johnny Dollar (Bob Bailey), Sherlock Holmes (Rathbone and Bruce), Great Gildersleeve, Amos and Andy, X Minus One and Dimension X. In no particular order except for Gunsmoke.
  15. Thanks Sqeggs. I used to have a low grade original set but sold them. I've since built it back up to about 130 of the 169 originals and about 40 of the new cover/interior issues in 7.0 and above. Missing most of the first 20 but not in a hurry to get them as the prices aren't shooting up any time soon. The Jones book (2nd edition) was recommended to me by Scrooge and I like it a lot. Excellent info on the history of the company and the artists.
