  1. I don't know anything about the collection but have a "Hap Langlie" western (L.B. Cole cover). My book has "Hap Langlie" in cursive at the top of the inside cover and first page but the name is printed on the front cover. The cursive looks to be from the same hand as on your cover. I bought it on ebay from someone that lives about a half hour from Seattle.
  2. Here's some Matt Baker art from the last three pages of Lassie #21 (March 1955). One of the things I enjoy about a lot of the Dell comics is when the story concludes on the back cover. I always look forward to seeing the artwork in three different formats on cosecutive pages. Standard comic page (color), glossy page (black and white) and glossy page (color).
  3. Tarzan #7. (thumbs u to Scrooge for getting me interested in this series. Lots of great stories in the first 35 or so issues (all I've read so far).
  4. I just read that one on Digital Comic Museum. Good stuff. You definitely got your money's worth.
  5. It might not have been intentional. Possibly the mom and dad were meant to look like they were holding hands. BUT you are correct, it does APPEAR as though Dad is copping a feel! That's kind of creepy as they watch their son or daughter make out. How can we be sure they're even related? It's possible it's just a couch the old couple put on their front porch for the local teenagers to make out on. But it's probably just a really nice, heart warming Colletta cover with an unfortunate hand placement.
  6. Thanks, Jayman. I'd go with #24 as my favorite but #19 would be high on the list.
  7. I see the light now. If this was a Fox book though, it would definitely be considered a "copping a feel" cover.
  8. I just recently started reading some of the Briefer Frankenstein stories and enjoy them a lot. I've only read 20 or so stories, but so far I'd have to say I like the later, scarier version the best.

  10. A cool book that I've never noticed before and would also agree that it looks "atomic". This part of the ocean floor, with the glow in the dark colors and the giant cockroach, definitely seems to have gotten the radiation treatment. Kind of prefigures Kirby's later Atlas monster books. You're right and the only thing missing is one of Stan's monster names like Goom or Sporr.
  11. I'd like to see that also. Heck, I'd even be happy with a feature in Alter Ego. Maybe one of you could start a thread right here... If you do, I have a few things to throw in... I remember you posting some pages from that Cities Service book a few years ago. I think it's getting cooler with age.
  12. Thanks, I love the hunt but it's always fun to bag a few every once in a while.

  14. Here's the complete run of a title I never heard of until I saw tricolorbrian's post of #1 a while back. I was happy to be able to find all three issues but still need to upgrade my beat #2. #1 and #2 are your typical western fare but #3 was a great surprise. #3 had good art and stories throughout, highlighted by the opening Harry Anderson story (see splash below).
  15. What a great book. I didn't even know it existed until now. Overstreet noting "similar contents" makes me curious to know the difference between Funnies On Parade and the Golden Eagle and Wanamaker versions.
  16. Boom indeed. A beautiful book. Looking forward to the rest of your scans and commentary.
  17. Protective of those little guys aren't you? Besides your Diary Secrets #30, I also had in mind the little guys from Love Diary #16 and Young Romance #12. Any one of those guys would feel uncomfortable being wrung in a handkerchief.

  19. I love both of these books and in terrific shape also (though that's to be expected from the good doc). Ingels had some really nice western covers and the Wild Bill came out the same time he was doing the Gunfighter issues for EC. The Shores Western Kid might make my top ten Atlas western list.
  20. I bought a nice book from Lyle that was well packed and quickly shipped. I'd buy from him again without any hesitation.
  21. I always liked this cover and this is a nice copy. With the action going to the left, it was a good choice to put the story panels at the bottom.
  22. I think the woman in back is just dating one of those "little men" you see on some romance covers. You just can't see him sitting on the seat. Or maybe he's in her handkerchief.
