The Sandman card art was I think the biggest score.
Could be, that’s not something I follow.

I thought the Punisher WJ #3 cover inked by Jim Lee was a steal. Best Buy of the auction at $23k imo.

So is the owner of this jumping for joy now? Or at least have enough potential scratch to get decent scan made?

So the question for me is does this crazy auction cause a stampede of people to sell their art causing a decline in the market due to supply or does it cause people to hold onto their art and create demand that vastly exceeds demand driving prices much higher? Or something different, pigs fly, Hell freezes over, dogs and cats living together....just what does this mean?
It means most Spider-Man art and Zeck art just went up!

The Secret Wars pages was about investment, right? Not about nostalgia or about the merit of Zeck as an artist (and I'm a Zeck fan!). This was about potential investment or moving one currency to another currency. Not what we all got into original art for in the first place. Right?
I do find it interesting the inking of the page is attributed to 3 guys, but they don't know who did the pages! John Beatty, Jack Abel or Mike Esposito. Personally I think the inks are by Abel.
Scott, as an inker, do you think it would be easy to know for sure who's inking style was applied to Zeck's pencils?

I thought you offering $250k for both pages was a very solid offer but for one of them to hit $3.36M? No one expected that.
I wonder what the consignor is thinking right now.
The consignor should be thinking he owes Uncle Sam 28% of his profits!
That should help fix a few roads here & there!

No one was expecting a 3 million dollar result.
I just asked 3 long time vintage comic book collectors (not into OA) what they thought the page sold for.
The highest amount of the 3 said $50,000, the lowest said $30,000.

No, not me. I decided to let the others fight over it. I'm happy with the 5 other GI Joe covers I have!

Here is one of mine. Green Hornet #19 July 1944. It has a small penciled “D” on the cover. As far as the code goes (inside at top of splash), I believe the 1849 represents how many comics in his collection and this is the 1849th one. The “FC” represents the publisher, Family Comics. I can’t remember what the “28” means. Maybe someone can chime in here.
Crack your copy and enjoy it!
Correct on the first number and FC. The “28” represents this is the 28th comic in the collection from that publisher.

My Crippen book has a W 10 on the cover. Do you have any idea what that means? The book was graded before I got it, but I would absolutely love to see the "code" that is on the inside of these books. As I understand it nobody knows how to interpret it, but it would be absolutely fascinating to at least know what's in there!
PDG
I know how to interpret it. I was the one who broke the code when the main collection was submitted to cgc.

We may be looking at the wrong thing for a war connection.
Most of these books have a "K" or "C" as part of the corner code and Heritage has been rationing these books out. One possible military connection is that both brothers consumed lots of K-rations and C-rations. That yarn may not be as appetizing for collectors as the one about promises made between two brothers, but it would make a great Korean War survival tale for the brother who made it back.
If we can find some books with an “F” on them, it will really shed light on this collection. Then these KFC books would truly be finger-licking good!

If you want 80’s nostalgia that will maintain or go up over the long haul I’d go with Transformers #1, G.I. Joe #1 or #21.
Since this is a display piece for you, I’d go with the #1’s. Both have great covers, are 1st appearances and are #1 issues.

Try the same experiment with non-fans, and aside from polite staring for the sake of an old friend/relative, you may see even less interest. That’s where fine art has an advantage: it doesn’t require knowledge of a backstory to evaluate (“When this book was issued with that character, it became the highest selling .…”). Just comp’s and do you like it.
This is an illogical fallacy towards any item of considerable value. Take the Action Comics #1 or AF #15 that both sold for about $3 million to your local 7-11 and try and make a sale to anyone who walks in. Stay there all day! See the largest offer you get! No one will offer more than a few hundred bucks for it, maybe $1000 if you get lucky!
Take a $400k Lamborghini to a Kia dealership. Stay there all day! See the largest offer you get!
There is a place and a time to show and to sell all of these things. Don’t expect others to value or be able to afford high end goods everywhere you go. That’s why auction houses exist. That’s why Lamborghini dealerships exist.
You won’t get much art appreciation if you take a million dollar piece of art out of its environment either. Right place, right time, or it’s all artificial to some degree.

My dad has a house full of car parts for exotic older Lamborghini’s and other sports cars. “This bolt is rare and is worth $500, this one I can get $40. This carburetor set is worth 20k.” Now imagine a house full of this! I keep telling him we have no idea what these car part are and what they are worth. It would take years for him to document all the stuff. Some parts guy will come into this house and buy everything for pennies on the dollar.

I found this a long time ago. I forget if I found this while doing a summer job tearing down and rebuilding walls at a school or we found it in a pile of stuff being donated. Either way I am pretty sure I have had this since the mid 90's.
Says Red Ryder 1938. I believe it is the medallion that would have been placed on the side of the rifle as the flip side seems to have grooves and glue residue.. I've held onto it since it seemed pretty cool. It is a little bigger than the size of a silver dollar. If anyone could tell me anything about it...
Can’t tell you anything about it, but if you want to sell or trade your silver dollars for comics let me know!

Wow- now at 234K for both, with 19.5 days left. Looks like we are seeing.
I actually have a black marker here, and I can color inside the lines... time to start changing some characters on my art pages to black costume Spidey.
Just a guess here, but the origin page of the red and blue Spider-Man costume is worth more that the origin page of the black costume.
The MSSW pages are cool, but I wonder if the 1st appearance pages are worth more than these origin pages, which appeared many months later?!?

Okay, I’ve changed my mind a bit. I would love the entire Twisted Tales mini-series in CGC SS format since I already have a signed #1. This will be a bit costly, so I’m not going to kill myself next year trying to find them. 🤣🤣🤣
I have the entire run. Great series!

I added to my Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Batman and GI Joe collections this year. I also picked up a few outliers like my MCP Wolverine cover.
What Beats $3,360,000?

Apparently this story is getting traction. My dad just called me asking me why anyone would pay over 3 million dollars for a single page from a comic! Lol
