  1. I just want to say that it is nice to have a wide variety of opinions, and significant differences of opinion, and maintain civil discourse. I had almost forgotten what that is like.
  2. Just so you don’t feel out on Revis Island, I agree with you. I don’t think it is insane to discuss it, or even suggest it, but I don’t think it warrants HoS.
  3. I feel the same way about this that I felt about the Junk Donkeys trying to police the PIF and whatever it morphed into over the years. So definitely not the PL. The PL is pretty clear that it is for people that violate the terms of an agreement to buy/sell/trade. That's not what what failing to send a Christmas Present is. HoS is probably the way to go, it has a broad enough charter to cover this type of bad acting. I hope nothing bad happened to the guy that made him flake out.
  4. That looks like one of those metal or wooden wall hangings that they sell at the Bargain Barn. It's frickin huge
  5. Thanks for the reductio ad absurdum - that always makes for good discussion. Also thanks for ignoring the fact that barex is no longer available. There were virtually no newton rings when the cases and/or inner sleeves were made from barex. The good news is that you answered my question. The vitriol comes because you want what you want - newton ring free cases. I get it.
  6. I have a hard time understanding the hatred toward CGC about Newton rings. It's physics. It's what happens when plastic touches plastic. I have to assume that Barex did not have the same refractive (or reflective) quality that the current plastics have - and thus the proliferation of newton rings. I support anyone not buying newton-ringed books if they don't like them, but the vitriol puzzles me.
  7. You are making it a little more complicated, but that is OK. The A-1, A-2 etc. are levels of conservation/restoration. None of that matters unless you have a conserved / restored book, which is very unlikely for a modern book. The most likely type would be color touch. What you need to get is that there are four classifications of grading Universal, Signature, Qualified and Conserved / Restored Blue Label which means the grade is not qualified in any way - it is a Universal grade. The other types are Signature (which must be witnessed by a CGC rep or otherwise follow their protocols), Qualified, which means the grade is not Universal, there is some type of latent defect that must be broken out and explained or else the assigned grade would appear to be wrong, and finally Conserved / Restored which means something has been done to the book (pieces added, color touch etc.)
  8. I'll get into a bidding war . . . This book is hilarious. If it was a kid that did this back in the day, then it is the most anal-retentive kids ever. Must have spent an hour with a brand new X-Acto knife. If it was an adult, it was the stupidest thing ever. I love this book, honestly.
  9. Dragon Con has a sweet way of checking the guest list from past cons. Gygax was not at DragonCon in 2007 or 2008, which would have been the only two that I would have been looking at after I was doing SS and before he died. So my memory has failed in that regard . . .
  10. I was talking about the AD&D and / or Dragonlance comics that DC put out. I also thought about having him sign one of the D&D ads, but I couldn't remember if they were ever on a back cover or if they were always inside.
  11. He was at DragonCon at least once. I was hustling to try and get books down there. I have no idea if it was as attractive to anyone else, because I have always been a huge D&D nerd as well. I have never seen a Gygax book, for the record.
  12. Logically, it seems like it should be Shawn Kittleson; that really appears to me to be an "S" and a "K." Have you found other examples of his sig?
  13. RIP to a true legend. I spent a lot of time with him as a witness over the years and he was overwhelmingly often a charming and affable guy. It impressed me how easily he grasped the concept of signing and drawing for money at cons. I bet he made more money drawing and signing at cons between say 2010 and 2019 than he did from Marvel, DC and Continuity combined when he was in his prime. Sad day.
  14. Just to make you feel better - I have owned about 50 Jim Lee signed books, but I have never owned a Carl Potts signed book.
  15. At the time it was signed, he had no ties to Marvel. But last year he did voice-over work on a Star-Lord cartoon, so it has been shriven clean!!!
  16. I appreciate your enthusiasm, but that sketch is garbage. It looks like a 9th grade art contest 3rd prize winner. It is on par with "quickie" sketches that run $50-75 at conventions. This poor guy paid THREE separate people for that rag.
  17. It doesn't appear to be anyone who worked on the book, nor is it any of the normal Star Wars actors. I would see if you could track down some intel on voice actors for the cartoons. That is where i would start.
  18. My Aliens Sig books: Sigourney, Paul Reiser, Bill Paxson https://www.myslabbedcomics.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=7019&GSub=627 The Marines https://www.myslabbedcomics.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=4417&GSub=627
  19. I cant tell if the upper left corner is a scanner artifact or a color breaking crease. If that is a color breaker, it will never get to 9.6
  20. That is the book I got the Avellan twins on. I looked at a bazillion copies and I still got a 9.6. Very well done!
  21. It's not different characters, it is different media. I don't care about or collect pulps. So I don't care about the first pulp appearance. I do think it is a super cool pulp, if you are into that kind of thing.
