  1. Spend some time really prioritizing your time and your money. It will likely be overwhelming to your senses. If you don't prioritize, you may strike at one of the first shiny objects and then not have enough dry powder left for the end of show deals or for something else you would have wanted more. This is not to give you paralysis by analysis but to give you the willpower to not blow your 3 day stake in 3 hours. Same thing with your time. If you spend all your time looking at slabs and you never get to the booth with the insane dollar boxes, you may really miss out. Avoid casinos and strip clubs, unless they are the output of your prioritization.
  2. I did not know Thomas, but all of the responses here let me know that I missed out on a good man. Condolences to his friends and family.
  3. This thread was so cool to view. The detail on the research and the high grade copies both impressed. I just want you all to know if these were Marvels, they would all be worth 4-5 figures.
  4. A crossword clue does not make Watchmen a satire on superheroes. There are (a lot of) satirical aspects in how some of the characters are portrayed, but Watchmen is a magnum opus of social commentary encompassing nearly every aspect of the Post World War II Era. It is brilliant literature that just happens to have been presented in graphic form.
  5. Saw it Saturday. Over the Top fun for certain. I found myself wondering to a distracting level, what was missing, what had been cut, what dialogue would have changed in various scenes etc. Definitely the best candidate for full director's cut since JL. It would/will be an insta-buy for me to experience the complete finale. B+ for me due to self-inflicted wounds and not being able to stay away from the Internet.
  6. Just so I understand you - You are saying because they are going to get money they should say nicer things?
  7. I think you are dead on. Whatever nomenclature you attach, you have a dad that, while putting together an amazing array of comics and other collectibles, missed the hearts of his people. No amount of attention or money is going to fix that.
  8. It 100% was hoarding. It's pretty clear that in some ways the dad poured more into the hoard than he did into his family. The son still obviously was very emotionally attached to his dad - but he clearly wanted the dad to include him more in whatever the dad was into. They hinted at the fact that no one was allowed to touch anything. It's possible that no one else was allowed into the home. It seems like a pretty jacked up situation.
  9. The people that do these videos are usually so bad and so cringey. This guy is very well spoken, logical and entertaining. I really enjoyed his analysis and his demeanor.
  10. Those back covers might be early Mike Champion work. He was an artist alley favorite during the early days of sketch covers.
  11. Here are some auction results for Opper. It looks like Happy Hooligan does the best for him. https://www.invaluable.com/artist/opper-frederick-burr-teclugpnd0/sold-at-auction-prices/ Swinnerton is a very sought after landscape artist. His comic art does pretty well too. https://comicarttracker.com/james-swinnerton-original-art-for-sale
  12. These comics were obviously read and loved. They exhibit what I consider to be normal wear for comics that were moderately well taken care of. The wear at the corners, edges and spines of these books indicates grades ranging from 8.5 to maybe a 9.4 on one of them. DO NOT SLAB THEM. You would be wasting an absolute fortune. Pressing will not help these books because the reading wear breaks color. If you love the series and want to get into graded books - buy a couple already graded - they should be cheap, relatively. Buy a couple 9.8s. Check out what they look like compared to your copies. Learn how to grade to CGC specifications, and then you can start hunting raw copies and subbing them yourself.
  13. I can't help with facilitators, but ECCC 2007 is where I got my 1st SS books done. Hope this bump brings some facilitators to the yard.
  14. I have the pack rat DNA as well - big time. One thing that has really helped me is if I feel the urge to not get rid of something (like birthday cards or mementos from trips etc.) i will review it (or re-read it or whatever) be thankful for the experience, drop in a little prayer for whomever else was involved, and then I sort of feel set free to let the physical item go. If I don't feel that, then i know that it is a real keepsake and happily keep it. That has worked for me after I did a massive purge - for the massive purge I had to be at my absolute wits' end with all the stuff.
  15. I don't know what that is, but I don't think it is Ron Lim. He very consistently has a stacked sig with the Ron over the Lim in a kind of box. And the L-I-M is nearly always quite distinct and not connected as those letters are. I went to GCD to see who else worked on the book and I didn't find anything good. But I am strongly, "Not Ron Lim."
