  1. He is wearing what sheiks wear, isn't he. He's not a very chic sheik, granted. And, he is wasting his grandpa's oil money - 5.3 million will get you a bangin' Action 1.
  2. Kane must have been furious that Everett laid out the prone female opposite of the way to get an "up the nose" shot.
  3. Auctioning books like that is such a crepeshoot. It nearly always benefits the vigilant SS collector.
  4. Remember Copper Lovers, it always better to sell the sizzle, not the steak . . .
  5. I had the Spidey one done back in 07 or 08 and the book itself appeared to be 9.2-9.4, and it got a 6.5 from the damage that the record did to the book by sitting in the slotted page for 40+ years. It also has discoloration (i believe it was ink transfer because of how much harder the book was pressing on itself where the record edges were) which will not get fixed by a press. So, the Sophie's choice is - open it to assess the damage at which point it is no longer sealed or send it in and take whatever you get. My honest advice would be to find another book - but I get it - the heart wants what the heart wants.
  6. All of the answers you've gotten so far are on point. Grading is just as much art as science. And the over-all aesthetic of an otherwise high grade book would be hurt much more by that damage than a book in the 4.0-8.0 range - thus the requests to see the whole book and try to assess what that flaw would do to the actual book in question. Also, from the pictures you are showing, there is foxing or pre-foxing on that paper. So your initial assessment of "otherwise 9.4" is dubious at best.
  7. It's almost the only copy of "Credible Hulk."
  8. I probably could have in 2013, but now I have no clue how they are treating requests like this. Sorry.
  9. A thread Ken is active in, is generally a good thread. Good rule of thumb for lurkers!
  10. I think your friendly sarcasm meter is broken, Spoon. I should have put a smiley face at the end like a twelve year old girl. And I was thinking about D ick Ayers, not Don Heck. So my own dumbness did me in.
  11. Well Pontoon - kudos on scouring GCD to prove me wrong.
  12. There are some artist possibilities - Stan Goldberg, Russ Heath and Don Heck come to mind.
  13. Richie, Harlan and his widow were both very lucky to have you as a friend and helper.
  14. Golden Age is an inaccurate term for JIM, which ran from 1952-1967 or 68. So that may hurt your ability to track these books down. The best way to track down copies for sale here is to do a thread in the Want to Buy section. Use the issue numbers you are looking for. For example if you want the horror books say you are looking for SS copies of issues 1-82. If you are interested in Thor books, 83-125. it will help if you state which signers you would prefer, and what you are paying.
  15. I agree with this. The only other thing I would add is that there is nothing wrong with listing the whole set somewhere (EBay, Comicconnect, whatever) with a dream price Buy-It-Now. That way on the off chance someone pulls the trigger, you are happy, but you are also drumming up some interest while you prepare to sell them individually.
  16. Be careful if you are relying on the words "Small." You should confirm that with an expert BEFORE you agree to get the resto removed. I had a book with allegedly "Small" Color Touch that ended up being about 2 inches by 2 inches (a 2x2 square of black india ink) So the minor scraping that was done, took the book from apparent 9.8 to apparent 9.6 and it was still PLOD. It was so disheartening. So beware, my friend.
  17. I would rather have the shopping list instead of something ridiculous like "Spider-Man meets the Wolverine." At least "blueberries, bread, milk, eggs" makes sense - Spider-Man does not meet the Wolverine
  18. Also, just to finish the pile-on, if you were able to get a Jordan signature, you should get it on a Jordan SI cover, not a satire comic book.
  19. This. I sent a text to @Park with about 35-40 minutes left that said "This Thor movie is absolutely awful. It's almost like a parody of itself." But then the last half hour delivered a mostly really nice and touching denouement about love and loss and living with both.
