  1. I could have sworn in 1997, Peter Travers in Rolling Stone gave Batman & Robin, a one sentence (fewest words possible) happy review at first, before completely trashing it down the road and years beyond. That one always stood out to me. There is only one answer... drugs. I think we was praising it for lightening up The Dark knight or being a family movie. But, yeah... drugs. I still remember sitting in there opening weekend, in horror how simple (and neon) it was. I might own the 2-disc DVD, just for the multiple part documentary. I can't believe how bad Bane was in that movie... I rewatched a snippet (and I mean snippet) the other day. Shouldn't have done that. It was blanked from my memory A dream cast for that movie in '97 that would make it remotely better would have been: somehow KEEP Val Kilmer, lose Robin and Batgirl, get Patrick Stewart as Mr. Freeze and Julia Roberts as Poison Ivy (she did a couple Schumacher movies.) Use Bane in an opening Bond pre-credit sequence to potentially set up a sequel. I think that would have elevated the acting a bit from the cheese. Patrick Stewart as Mr Freeze...? I like it! I might have read it was a consideration in a trade out there back in the day, but it always stuck out since. He would have been a very cerebral choice, but technically they did that with the manic Carrey in "Forever." I'm guessing that they wanted a more action actor that could move toys more. Nothing against Schwarzenegger, but his last good movie came out 22 years ago (but I liked T3.)

  4. none with any integrity Siskel & Ebert would publicly change their reviews from time to time, admitting they might have been wrong in TV specials. I was going to give Batman v Superman **1/2 out of **** yesterday, but I'm going to hold it at **.

  6. The misbehaving and truent students are dealt with off-screen.
  7. Yeah after sleeping on it, I might knock it below Doom. Those JL movies felt too much like those rushed Marvel Animation Ultimate Avengers movies. But, admit it was trying to give us something different. It just forced too many characters on you at once. The Beast Boy parts were as painful to watch as the Shazam ones in the JL movies. As always Supergirl was the best character. Although the plot gives us a generic ending a third grader could predict, the animation was pretty solid. Be prepared to fast forward parts. Since the DC Super Hero Girls line was created to attract young girls to the DC female superhero franchise, which includes action figures and dolls... ...the theme and stories are most probably geared toward a much younger audience so as not to overwhelm them with massive fight scenes or even potential threats of death. At least it provided a soundtrack to get them off the couch though. It is shows like Teen Titans GO where kids and adults can find something to enjoy. One heck of a funny show! I've seen the dolls in Toys R Us... that's what made me think it's a little bit Barbie. Now... the episode where Supergirl tries to fit in at school is showing right now! Is this the same episode as on the DVD? Starts with Wonder Woman fighting Killer Croc. That version of Supergirl is going to be released as a Hallmark Keepsake Christmas ornament in October, so I'll probably pick one up.
  8. There are a lot of decent moments in the movie to not totally classify it as juvenile dribble. I felt the Supergirl parts were great involving the loss of her parents, Bumblebee was a nicely created character (new to me,) Wonder Woman was good for take charge action and the Dean Cain/Helen Slater voice combo as the Kents was inspired.
  9. Don't forget the wonderful Gotham Girls series. Yeah, on a binge of the girly import show Miraculous, it showed it could connect to an adult audience as well. So after your thread in CG, I was reasonably curious if DC could pull it off as well. Marvel Superhero Squad actually sprinkled a lot of adult humor and movie homages (Castaway, The Crucible, etc) in their show to give the adults a decent chuckle now and then, to make the kiddie stuff tolerable. I knew going in the action was going to be light, but I was hoping for at least some funny moments. Watching some of the shorts included on the disc, makes me wonder how this stuff sells at Target. Kids must be buying the general "character" and not the one on the show.

  11. I bought Season 1 Wednesday, looking forward to watching it.
  12. Might bump it up to two and a half stars out of four. But, I was ultimately disappointed with it.
  13. DC Superhero Girls: Hero of the Year. Two out of four stars. I wasn't the intended audience for this. It had moments here and there, but wasn't as good as other kiddie fare like Miraculous or Marvel's Superhero Squad. Not sure how an entire toyline could be based on something that panders to it's intended audience through cliches and poor plotting. Let your kids watch Miraculous instead! 1. 14. Not me. Absolutely no time and I want to see it. Might have to wait until Blu. Much appreciation to the folks who continue to use spoiler tags here and there.
  15. I couldn't find any copies of "The Nice Guys" today on Blu ray, so I picked up "DC SuperHero Girls: Hero of the Year" on DVD instead. It looks fascinating enough. Strong voice cast too (Tara Strong, Mae Whitman, Grey Griffith-must got married.) I'll watch it tonight before the toxic pre-season football game.
  16. I loved the original Blade, but I always thought Blade II got to run away with the whole vampire mythology a lot better and by adding a love interest for Snipe's character gave him the humanity we only saw in quick flashes in between the 2nd unit set pieces of the first movie. I consider that movie the true ending to the franchise, as it went off on an emotional highnote admist the CG and gore. Trinity (not awful,) but not quality feels too much like an unnecessary cash grab with decent moments sprinkled here and there, when Triple H and Parker Posey isn't hamming.
  17. Two star movie. Not that terrible to a casual viewer, but I can see why FF fans would have concern over a potential franchise. I've seen worse funnybook movies... Batman & Robin, Catwoman, Steel, Crow: Wicked Prayer, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, etc.
  18. "This is the story of one of America's great unsung heroes..." Lee Majors said in a recent interview he was "getting close to a knee replacement" due to all the stunt work he'd done in the past. You just know what that surgeon's going to say right before the operation starts...
  19. I wonder what the international marketing contingency plan for "Shazam" will be? Maybe The Rock should just do "The Fall Guy" reboot instead. Anybody catch "The Fall Guy" binge on Decades this weekend?
  20. Finished it! Couldn't wait. Great movie. A powerful message. It's what is missing in the newer movies. 1. Batman: The Dark Knight Returns**** 2. Justice League: The New Frontier***1/2 3.
