  1. Sounds like the "Con Air" point I made 10-15 pages back in the thread. It's actually a clever marketing strategy that went on towards the end of some last minute fireworks before the summer winds down. You see these critic proof summer hits from time to time (Congo, The Mummy Returns, etc) that people seem to enjoy regardless of narrative quality and critical bashing. The Mummy Returns was awesome... Only for Rachel Weisz's Evie character. I've always been somewhat infatuated with her (even as the damsel in Chain Reaction.). #beautifulcreatures #bournelegacy #consta... I forget. Of course #consta...ntlywatchingmoviesjustforrachelweisz But true. Ahh... but worth it I was about to say she'd have made an excellent choice for Enchantress in SS... seeing as they went for a Brit... but then realised she's possibly outside of the "target age range" Just finished the new release The Lobster. I have no idea what I watched, but it had Rachel in it. She's still got it. #reallifebondgirl

  4. Could have swore MiB 3 had the biggest WW gross of the trilogy (not adjusted for inflation.)

  6. She doesn't have too much time left on her 15 minutes as a Taylor bestie, considering's Swift's bizarre relationship all over the tabloids with Loki. A Britney implosion is due at any moment. Then it's back to modeling until she retires at 25. Great review! Thanks for sharing.
  7. I liked the idea of a bunch of kids making him up and the "Superman/Shazam!: Return of Black Adam" short was a good time as well. So here's my quandary. I loved "The Killing Joke," I have an issue with it's storytelling. Like "Superman/Shazam" it feels like two extended shorts and not a whole movie. I liked the Batgirl prologue during the first 30 minutes. I really didn't care about her knocking Bat booties with Bats on a rooftop, but what bugged me was that it builds up this Paris baddie and just ignores him, to better service the next 47 minutes with the Joker. It seriously blunts Batgirl's character arc. Meaning there is no payoff! The Killing Joke segment is gloriously demented, but literally has nothing to do with the beginning other than staring into the abyss of one's psyche. I can't make up my mind to award it a perfect rating or just say it's a solid entry in the DC animation movies. It's definitely the best thing to be released since "Batman: Assault on Arkham," but it's not really a well constructed movie. After watching "Mask of the Phantasm" last night, it doesn't quite hold a candle to it's power. I'm just going to say it's a really good experiment and a good step in a better direction for their animation efforts. "Batman: The Killing Joke" (Three out of Four Stars.) 1. Batman: The Dark Knight Returns**** 2. Superman/Batman: Apocalypse***1/2 3. Superman/Batman: Public Enemies***1/2 4. The Batman Superman Movie***1/2 5. All-Star Superman***1/2 6. 8. I panned it because it had the elements to be a good one, but didn't want to be. I had the same issue with JL. Doom. I think the main issue was it didn't feature Supergirl I'd sooner take her trying to get to a Beiber concert while saving the world, than the way they wrote Shazam in War any day. Take Shazam out of War and Atlantis and they crawl up the list.

  10. where's New Frontier? I've had it for a while now, but just haven't watched it yet (same with Crisis on Two Earths and vs. The Elite.)
  11. Finally watched Mask of the Phastasm. A classic, even if you can figure out the identity of the villian as you see them at first. Roger Ebert once deemed it "The Law of the Economy of Characters," I believe. 1. Batman: The Dark Knight Returns**** 2. Superman/Batman: Apocalypse***1/2 3. Superman/Batman: Public Enemies***1/2 4. The Batman Superman Movie***1/2 5. All-Star Superman***1/2 6. Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox***1/2 7. Batman: Assault on Arkham***1/2 8. Batman: Mask of the Phantasm***1'2 9. Justice League: Doom** 27. Justice League Vs. Teen Titans** 28. Justice League: War*1/2 29: JLA Adventures: Trapped In Time*1/2 Honorable Mention: The Lego Movie*** What a list of almost DC goodness. Might rewatch The Killing Joke before I put it on the list. I'm thinking #4, but that might be a bit high.
  12. Based on all the negative buzz, I would like to recommend the animated "Batman: Assault on Arkham" to better wash any possible bad taste fans might have from "Suicide Squad." I watched it in between cleaning my yard out between snowstorms and completely loved it enough to award it three and a half stars even.
  13. So it's currently at 26%, based on 212 reviews. What does that make this... a one and a half star movie?
  14. IM2, IM3 and AoU sucked large Loved the first half of Captain America: First Avenger, bored by the rest. Incredible Hulk didn't last too much in my mind afterwards. Never liked Iron Man 2. Liked Iron Man 3, but it had a lot of lapses in logic and overblown second unit shots and a terrible climax (I rember disliking the Iron Monger fight in the original, looking back now it was better of what was to come.) Just watched AoU again and it wasn't that bad the second time around. Antman was better during a second viewing as well.
  15. That would be wicked awesome. I actually borrowed a friend's Smallville: Season 5 for this weekend. I missed episodes like "Tomb", etc.
  16. I'll reserve judgement until I see the movie. However, in response to that quip...
  17. I saw this released on DVD a couple weeks back and it looked fascinating, but I picked up The 100: Season 3, Orphan Black: Season 4, Thirteen: The Complete Series and some random Doctor Who series discs instead. Maybe I'll give it a shot with Sherlock, next.
  18. I've become somewhat of a fan of Star Trek again after the reboot and cannot wait to see this... on Blu.
  19. Yep. Even in Whiplash, she comes across so cute and wholesome you want to tell Miles Teller he is crazy to dump her character for his career. Pfft... Drummers Glee: Season 4 then? What happened in S4? I dunno? I bought 4-5 after Whiplash because she was in it. Haven't opened them up yet, even after she was cast as Supergirl.

  21. From the last trailer, I think critics are going to get that it's not going to take itself as seriously like B v S. That might help it in a tongue-in-cheek way like Con Air as just an excuse to go to the movies to watch stuff blow up... big. I agree they did attempt a course correction midstream with the re-shoots to better mesh with the original trailer. The question is whether they successfully integrated the new content to effectively change the tone, or did they create a disjointed mess. My initial feeling was that the actors were running around as if they were making the second coming of Citizen Kane (I'm looking at you, Leto). If they've managed to lighten that load a bit (without turning it into a Will Smith one-liner joke fest) then I will breathe easier. I still think the critics are going to pan it though, no matter what. Whether or not it is "critic proof" like Transformers remains to be seen as well. -J. If it makes the projected possible $140 million on opening weekend (read it on wiki), than I would say it's "critic proof." Heck, $80 million even.
