  1. Agreed. She is actually one of my favorite characters in the current Marvel crop. Just finished "Hitchcock." She was a terrific Janet Leigh. Even in her most WTF movies like "Under The Skin," she dominates a role no matter how un-commercial. I have yet to see "Lucy" though. I couldn't stand "Under the Skin," aside of course from her being in the buff. I'm a huge science fiction fan, but my girlfriend isn't, and somehow that equated to me hating that film and her loving it. You know, I hated "Under The Skin," yet I'm compelled to watch it from time to time. I always think I'm going to run into a shiny alien in the middle of the woods now.
  2. There was a summer when there were two good movies released by the rival publishers that no one doubted. I think a lot people want to relive 2008 all over again. The truth is, we can. From the critical viewpoints, Warner/DC just has to make better movies again.
  3. I'm going through the "feeling" smilies for activities on Facebook and can't help but notice the weirdly out of place one "excited to see Batman v Superman." Is that there on my page because of an algorithm?

  5. Picked up this today. I hadn't seen it too. I heard about the train sequence, so I watched that first. All I can say is "eyepopping!" Might try the whole movie sometime this week.
  6. He should... he's playing a young Harrison Ford in that film (Age of Adeline). As much as you want continuity with looks and mannerisms, you don't want an actor "aping" the role and not bringing anything new to it either. I thought Ewan McGregor was guilty of this in the Star Wars Episodes 1-3 trilogy. His role was pretty stale in "The Phatom Menace", before he expanded it in the follow-ups.
  7. River Phoenix was great as a young Indiana Jones. Brief but effective. Same for Sean Patrick Thomas who was solid in Ford's signature role. Robert DeNiro turned in fine work for his young Vito Corleone in The Godfather, Part II. Those are the only pop culure icons that immediately spring to mind that were recast as with younger actors. But I hear you, they also had supremely talented folks working behind the camera, let's hope that is the case here.
  8. I'm in no way a fan of Snyder, but he has put some women in strong lead roles in action films, that I haven't seen since Cameron (Sarah Polley in "Dawn", Just about the entire cast of "Suckerpunch" to name a couple.) Now Eli Roth to me would be a filmmaker that would fit the bill of that label. "Hostel II" might be one of the most evil movies against women since Jack Ketchum's "The Girl Next Door." Then he made "The Green Inferno."
  9. A black man in white face makeup!? This sounds like some Short Circuit Part 2 ish right here! Tomorrow we riot! Can't be worse than The Crow: Wicked Prayer. That one has a 0% on RT. They only can go up now. Also, if they have Jessica Brown Findlay in the cast they are doing something somewhat right.
  10. To me as a movie buff, his films are all "style" and no "substance," like Michael Bay's works. I thought he had great promise after Dawn of the Dead, but have been disappointed with each movie since in varying degrees. I enjoyed The Watchmen: Director's Cut and thought Man of Steel was good. I didn't care for the Robert Rodriguez style of greenscreen filmmaking with 300 (but I watch it occasionally.)But, never had the urge to rush out to see any of his movies since. The critical reviews stating this movie is essentially a one and a half star movie and being stuck home for months due to multiple hand operations made me depressed in general did not help either. I'll watch Batman v Superman eventually in it's uncut form when it comes out. I just think his movies tend to be too noisy for my own personal taste. I am glad so many of you enjoyed it though. Sometimes that's all that matters. People praised Avengers: Age of Ultron and Transformers 4 on here intitially and they turned out to be turkeys. It all comes down to personal tastes or one's threshold to try these movies constantly to keep up with them.
  11. I'm holding on to hope. A lot of shows writing gets better during the second season, after a disappointing first season. I can think of only one (The Facts of Life) at the moment. Where cast and writing changes shot it to the top of the ratings. Supergirl was CBS's most anticipated show of the Fall. I'm sure if it's renewed, it will be altered a bit. My advice to the producers would be ground it more from the world domination plots to more simple crimes. This is what killed The Greatest American Hero during the second season. Cut down on the needlessly cheap effects shots (those fakey long shots of people in flight.) They should focus harder on guest villians and how they alter Kara's life as well, not just the beatdown aspects (but those are charmingly retro in Walker: Texas Ranger way.) Hate to say it, but the villian of the week might be just the ticket, if it's written with a social commentary of a girl just trying to get by. It'll keep the budget low.
  12. Sounds almost like a Hitchcockian twist (the way Hitchcock used mothers with his leads, North By Northwest and Psycho, etc.)
  13. Interesting analogy... I like it. Recently watched Annie Hall on ThisTV and Sleeper on DVD and you get the Christopher Reeves part. Hopefully, she gets a headband next season.
  14. Even if some episodes were less than spectacular, Melissa Benoist's performance steered it away from "Superboy vs. Microwave Man" territory. She was definitely the best casting choice for the lead role. She's like a bizarre concoction of Diane Keaton and Christopher Reeve (even without the cape), that somewhat still works for the audience. Hopefully, moving forward they get their acts together in writing and direction of every episode for a better flow of good episodes.
  15. Supergirl Lives? http://www.bustle.com/articles/156762-these-supergirl-season-2-hints-from-producers-should-give-fans-plenty-of-hope http://www.vinereport.com/article/supergirl-season-2-news-kara-to-fully-embody-supergirl-next-season-renewal-rumored-to-be-announced-next-month/10278.htm
  16. But there should still be some attrition this weekend, as three new releases will open this week on more screens than BvS will have (i.e., 2,600 plus), although none of them targets the same audience: Mother's Day (Jennifer Aniston/Julia Roberts adult comedy) Ratchet & Clank (Animated kids film) Keanu (Key & Peele comedy) Not blockbusters, but should hurt its holding power nonetheless. I agree with this. Julia Roberts/ Gary Marshall collaborations usually do very well. Jennifer Anniston has been fairly hyped lately too and Keanu might be a "sleeper."
  17. Wait until Monday for definite results. You might be right. Have you seen the Batman v Superman thread in the tv'movie subforum?
  18. Dial M for Murder had an intermission. I might give a hint why the 105 minute movie had one, but I wonder if any film buffs know as I'm watching the 3-D Blu Ray now.
  19. I'm guessing Frozen #nn was just a one-shot "movie tie-in" and this new series will be be like the comic strip, just longer and about the ongoing adventures of Elsa & Anna and their friends. Definitely, can see Tangled and Little Mermaid cameos. If Baymax from Big Hero 6 can show up in "Frozen Fever", than anything is possible.
  20. On July 27th, we are finally getting a Frozen ongoing comic from Joe's Books. http://diskingdom.com/2016/04/22/frozen-comic-book-coming-soon/ Comic Book writer Georgia Ball has revealed the cover for a new Frozen comic book series from Joe’s Books. This comic book will be coming out on the 27th July and is priced at $2.99. Brand-new adventures await Anna, Elsa, Olaf, Kristoff, and the rest of your favorite characters from Disney’s Frozen! Return to the magical kingdom of Arendelle again and again in this all-new, original comic series from Joe Books I see this one becoming my first Registry Set since 2011's Under Locke & Key. My new Frozen #nn Signature Series, signed by Idina Menzel (Elsa) & Jonathan Groff (Kristoff). It reminds me of the strong start to a CGC collection the same way my Locke & Key CGC 10 did in 2008. It's my prize Frozen book, so far. Mainly because I've been a fan of Idina's since her work in Rent and Wicked. Heck, I own all of her movies from Just A Kiss to Enchanted (Not sure if I still have Kissing Jessica Stein though.) I actually have a CGC SS 9.8's with Eva Bella's (young Elsa) and Livvy Stubenrauch's (young Anna- "Do you want to build a snowman?") signatures and another CGC SS 9.8 signed by Spencer Ganus (teen Elsa- the actress successfully sued Disney to get her cut of the profits.) I also have a few graded 9.8's, for no real reason. No collection is complete without the ultra-rare 2nd print either, which I luckily snagged in CGC 9.8. These books are hard to find in high grade as well. Not that a lot of people had a lot of luck getting the first prints in 9.8 as well. I noticed a lot of raws riddled with spine ticks and cover crinkling. I loved the interior art inside by Massimiliano Narciso. It reminded me a lot of Michael Turner's linework. Alessandro Ferrari took the best elements from the movie and made one of the best comic adaptations from a movie that I ever read. He still writes the amusing Frozen comic strips in Disney's Frozen magazine. I think this comic had a 7,500 or more copy print run, which was always odd to me because of the high level of art in it and the fact Joe's Books had a 100,000 copy print run on the Frozen cinebooks . Considering there are millions of Frozen kids books and enough merchandising still out there, so that you can't walk twenty feet in Walmart without running into a Frozen item (from bicyle helmets to Frozen licensed fishingpole), I think the comics will eventually be quite the rare collectible down the road too. Kids can't collect what they don't know exists. Even in little New Hampshire, I still run into kids dressed up as Anna (even during the summer!) Anyway, I'm pretty excited about this news. It's so cool to be back collecting a graded Modern series again.
  21. You're right. I do often forget how magically perfect "Wonder Woman", Tom Baker's "Dr. Who", "Buck Rogers", Battlestar G.", "Knight Rider", "Spider-Man" and "The Incredible Hulk" was when I was around six years old when they first aired. Have they seen "Justice League Unlimited" or the "Superman: Animated Series" yet? Supergirl is in those a lot. I saw Supergirl in a drive-in when I was nine and loved it. So who knows, they might like to see a young Helen Slater or Ellis from Die Hard playing the boyfriend?
  22. Everybody will say watch The Revenant if you liked The Edge, but you should try out "Backcountry" for more of a "The Edge" type-experience. Loosely based on a true story about an ill-fated couple's trip in the wilderness (they inadvertantly started camping in bear country), it's an interesting counterpoint that the person that knows the least about survival becomes the main motivator to get back to civilization. For wilderness movies, I rate it up there with the modern classic (bear-less), "A Lonely Place To Die."
