  1. That makes sense. If I were him I would have made my intentional error something like naming the wrong artist for howard the duck #17 as opposed to a high profile GA book. A DA #1 intentional error would damage his credibility, not so a lesser book.
  2. Yep, both are total nightmares. I'm struck by the urge to simply post more scans. That book is really a stunner in-hand. I think it looks like O'Mealia, especially when you look at the Natives' faces. The dude being burned at the stake looks more like Flessel though. Good job re Flanigan. To my eye, all of these covers where we were unclear if they were Flessel or O'Mealia look to be by the same hand. Not every day a great GA cover artist is uncovered!
  3. re ashcans I believe that's correct, and I don't believe that they were ever released to the public until such time as they came out of the publisher's files, etc. I think moondog was saying that most of the dc ones came from sol harrison (but I have no first hand knowledge and might be wrong about that). But again, the idea that DA1 is an ashcan is a big leap of faith in my opinion. Why would you have an ashcan #1 and then a regular #2? That doesn't happen. Think about every other DC ashcan #1. There's an ashcan #1, and then the first regular issue is also titled #1 because its #1 to the public. So personally I would think DA#1, if it does indeed exist, is a regular comic NOT an ashcan..
  4. Your post also takes for granted that its an ashcan which is a question in everyone's mind. Is it an ashcan or was it a regular book? Could you ask Bob that also? thanks
  5. I just remember getting chewed out by him for getting him a combo meal from Whataburger instead of just a hamburger (Lunch run-Dallas Fantasy Fair--mid 80s--we were set up next to him). I think I blew his meal budget for the whole convention by adding the fries and coke. Jesus... what a miserable bastich
  6. RHG, when did you pick up all these church copies you've posting lately? Unless you were picking them up in the 70s and 80s I shudder to think what they cost but my word are they gorgeous
  7. Eh. I've heard that argument but disagree completely. Doesn't have the same magic is you ask me. Some of the other covers on this thread though are jawdropping... I loooove that Dynamic 20 of yours
  8. Congratulations Allan Any particular use for the dough; buying something else? cheers
  9. One of my favorite titles as well. Can't wait to see the scans! Doug - are there prehero PC strange tales too?
  10. I'm not an expert - I'll let eccomic comment further but in general I believe the canadian versions of US books like the cap above are in color whereas the canadian "whites" (which conversely are original content books with no US counterparts) are usually B&W inside.
  11. Never seen or heard of those before either- awesome!
  12. Sweet books! Agree with your sentiments re having a book and a porsche!
  13. No.... the point is they are both the first appearance of the character in question. I thought that was abundantly clear Obviously spidey is on a million times larger scale in terms of fan following than usagi is, that's not the point I was making. What I was saying is that they are both the first appearance, ie. if you're into those two characters, those are the two books to have. Nobody gives a damn about plat spidey 1, spidey collectors included
  14. while the price is definitely high right now, the spidey 1 plat is a really bad analogy. Albedo 2 is more like the amazing fantasy 15 for usagi collectors. Spidey 1 plat is a freaking lame variant of an ultra-overproduced 90s book for gods sake, not to mention 30 years removed from the first appearance.
  15. All of the cars pictured are Spoilers, a subset of the overall Hotwheels line, typified by racing stripes, numbers, spectraflame paint and exposed engines. They are hotly collected. Depending on colour and style, some of these are worth $1000+ mint and on the card (the record price for a hotwheel was $70k for a very rare hot pink VW beach van prototype.... so comic collectors aren't the only freaks). Loose and still in excellent shape, they go from $50 to several hundred dollars. Beaters? I don't think I paid more than $15 for any of these, and they were all in reasonable, played-with condition. I stripped them, polished them, cleaned up the wheels and the glass, then repainted them with an airbrush and added new decals. And they are all-pimpin' now. I restore one every six months or so.... just too busy to do one in a few days. I bought a large (25 cars) lot off ebay in 2004 which will provide me with enough cars to keep me busy for a few years. Hotwheels.... they go great with comics. Shep I figured they would be worth some good money on the card. Interesting to hear some are worth bucks loose too - thanks! I dug up my childhood hotwheels out of curiosity and have been trying to look them up on ebay - we're talking a couple bucks each for the good ones
  16. Coinee! (looks to the side and spits twice over shoulder)
  17. really - how much is something like that beat up vs restored vs original in great shape (loose)?
