  1. What an awesome piece of Provenance to have with your #9
  2. Super low grade. These books were read over & over, enjoyed over & over, puzzles filled over & over, dot to dots filled over & over. Can you imagine how many hours of enjoyment these books brought to kids. It's a wonder that any still even exist. Three of the #1s don't have the 1st interior wrap.... WHO IS STEALING 1st WRAPS OUT OF WDC&S 1???
  3. As I recall, she knew NOTHING about comics but heard they could be valuable. She saw these at a thrift store and paid $500 for them all 11 long boxes thinking she was going to get rich. She admitted to me that all the boxes and everything was in mint shape when she bought them. She had a few people look at them thru the years but no one wanted them. I wonder why
  4. I'm guessing it's more than a miscut, it's been trimmed both at the top and right edge. And that right edge is not a micro trim, it's a major trim. And then the clipped panel unfortunately makes it incomplete. I usually always leave a grade, but I'm not honestly sure how to grade this one. No matter the grade it's still JIM85 and is a great comic
  5. Just to be clear since the last 20 posts all seem to be about stinky smelly comics.... NONE of these comics have any bad odors at all. In fact 95% of this collection turned out to be super high grade. The comic bags did their jobs defending these comics against the cats. I know the start of this thread looked pretty grotesque but a 100% switch out of all boxes/bags & boards happened to this collection within a day or two of getting them back to my house (my wife actually never saw the boxes ).
  6. I have a slabbed Avengers 6.0 and this one is much nicer. I feel like the starting point on this one is a 6.5, but a 7.0 would sure be nice.
  7. I thought I'd revisit this thread. I've been going thru everything slowly. This collection is NOT my focus, but I put parts of it up on ebay regularly. I've sold about 7 long boxes of these comics on ebay. I bought this "Cat Puke" collection for $825. After ebay fees I've netted about a $1500 profit so far with 3 or 4 boxes to go. I'm taking it slowly and not killing myself to get thru this collection. I've found a couple other small collections since this one and have worked to find other deals out there. I've got 3 or 4 boxes left from this collection and truthfully I've been saving most of the good stuff. All the TMNT, all the Xmen, all the Wolverine. There might be another $1500 or more left in what I have here. I know this is small potatoes (to some of you) in the grand scheme of things and some of you may think "NOT WORTH IT" But..... I have sent 11 super high grade books from this collection into CGC: Crow 1 Swampthing 37 TMNT 6 Hellboy 1 John Byrne's Next Men 21 Xmen 266, 282 & 283 Marvel Comics Presents 72 New Teen Titans 2 Tales of the New Teen Titans 1 I'm expecting some high grades on these and will let you know when they come back. Consider that if just The Crow 1 comes back as a 7.5 it, by itself pays for the whole collection. Pretty cool. I feel like I took a big risk with this Cat Puke collection. And it paid off for me. I'm very happy with how it all turned out.
  8. Here's a black & white reprint of the 7 page "Reform School Girl" story. Knock yourself out.
  9. Yeah, the texture is weird, almost gritty like sandpaper. Ugh. Aside from that.... looks pretty good.
  10. An above average copy. It's bright and clean. It has no major defects, but you should be able to see the small flaws it has in my photos. What do you think?
  11. This is kind of a "what would you do?" question. I bought a "lot" of early (foreign) Thor comics. They are actually in great shape (some are amazing), except for a major flaw.... rusty staples. I would dare say some of these old comics would grade in the 9.0s if not for the staples. On some, the staples got so rusty that they fell out. I'd say 20 of the comics don't even have staples. But... they have the brown "rust migration" into the paper (some slightly, some more severe). I feel like I should remove all of the rusty staples to stop degradation of paper. But I also feel like I want ALL of the comics to be stapled. I was thinking of replacing all of the rusty staples with Silverage staples, and in some cases reinforcing any weak paper around the staples with a tiny sliver of archival tape. Am I over thinking this? Should I just leave everything alone (not sure if my OCDs can handle it if I do). If I replaced staples and had CGC grade them they would get conserved labels right? The picture shown is for JIM 84. The rust isn't as bad on this one and I might leave it alone.
  12. I was just thumbing through an old Thor comic and saw this panel.... Look familiar? It's from Thor 128 (1966) it's Hyppolita. She's helping Pluto trick Hercules. When I saw the panel I thought "Jane Foster just traveled back in time". Jack Kirby... still influencing artists. If you've ever wondered how Kirby would have drawn "Mighty Thor", here's your answer.
  13. So awesome. GCD says it's Canadian, but has no other info. I used to have #21 of this run.
  14. Walked into a LCS today with no expectations.... walked out with THIS!!!!!
  15. I'd love to get an 8.0 on this. I'm pretty excited. I literally walked into a LCS today (to buy some bags & boards) and saw it behind the counter. My eyes got really wide. I wasn't planning on a purchase but left the store with a big dent in my credit card. No regrets though... I love it
  16. Reform School Girl nn - CGC 1.5 - Cr to OW pages - (cover detached) I bought this one cracked out of the slab like this, but still locked into the inner well. The thin strip on the back is glued there and that old price is magic markered on. $1500 shipped
  17. Normal Rules No Probies or HOS US destinations only Pay by Check or MO Will be shipped USPS insured. I'll pay for shipping No returns on this since it's graded and still locked inside of the inner well. 1st in the thread wins it.
  18. Such an awesome cover! I checked the census and the highest graded is a 6.0. I think this one has a chance to beat it. The colors are SO bright on this one. Gorgeous copy. Cover and CF are super snug at the staples. Minimal spine wear. Biggest defect is the lower right corner and that isn't even all that bad.
  19. Because there are no holes (technically staple holes "damage" the spine). So if your TMNT is really high grade I suppose it could get a 10.0 Green label which would be pretty cool. Financially, Green's value is way less than Blue in the same grades, so I wonder if other collectors with your dilemma have ever been tempted to staple the comics themselves.
  20. Thought I'd show this here since it's kind of interesting. This is the Brazil version of JIM 83 & 84 reprinted in 1967. Yes both comics in the same issue. WHY oh WHY didn't they use the cover to 83????
  21. I Have a NEW ticket into the club!!! Woo Hoo! Cover is detached... probably only a 1.5, but still... nice to have another.
  22. I'm sending in a new Submission tomorrow. I've broken down and decided to "fast track" it. I just don't want to wait a year. They win.... here, take my money.
  23. One of my Submissions just hit "Grading/Quality Control". That means it close right? It had been at Grading/Encapsulation/imaging for months.
