  1. I was chasing an EVS commission about 10 years ago when he was extremely popular and hard to get. I eventually gave up as a couple good friends were given the run around by him and sold off the commissions that they ended up getting from him due to the experience leaving a bad taste in their mouth. This was all before he became known as he is now. His art doesn't hold the appeal it once did so he is not on my list. I don't know that the current stuff he posts has any impact as I don't pay a ton of attention to it. I have a Syaf commission. I love it. When the news broke on him it did give me pause but I decided to keep it in the end as it didn't impact my appreciation of the piece too negatively.
  2. Newest CAF addition (got this many years ago however) in my Bob Larkin homage gallery. Chris Uminga. https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1501516
  3. please don't let DC editors read this - not something I want to see in a comic book
  4. Funny you say that. I have thought a lot about it and have decided that one will be enough. Please don't test my resolve, I don't know how strong it is.
  5. Kirby Hulk Silver Age twice up page John Buscema Hulk Bronze Hulk cover
  6. Which could all change if MCU developed a Secret Wars arc that was well received.
  7. I thought we were talking in terms of popularity and OA prices when comparing IG to those other stories, not critical acclaim. Where I see IG closing the gap In the former, I do not in the latter. Regarding the comparison to SW that Felix posted, good example …. Though I think IG has already sailed by SW (but I don’t follow prices closely so I don’t have data to back that up)
  8. I get this. There is a line that can be crossed in terms of how you try to buy a piece of art that is NFS. IF someone crosses the line, they get the wall (ie blocked). The line differs for everyone but all should be comfortable throwing up the wall if/when the line is crossed.
  9. Absolutely. If the inquiry is legitimate, I always engage in conversation. I have made some great contacts this way - many of which have not led to art acquisitions.
  10. I LOVE this cover - this is a great example of (me) being appreciative of those who share great art online. Thanks!
  11. but it is has the "Has been in a private collection for over 20 years" factor which should be a 2X bump, right?
  12. Not the same in my eyes. New cars are generally fixed price (maybe a small range variance if there is an incentive, etc.) Art at auction is not fixed and pieces sell under FMV all the time (just watch dealer web sites to see which pieces are perceived to fit this description after each auction). Also depends on investment strategy - if you are looking long term there are limited edition sports cars that you can buy and watch them possibly rise in value if you keep mileage low and condition like new.
  13. First one is for sale - an inquiry would give you this collector's asking price as a reference
  14. For sure! I put that on watch out of pure curiosity. Was this on eBay at $50K?
  15. I think he does NYCC regularly so you might have a chance in a few weeks
  16. Agreed, thanks for posting. Adding the link is also appreciated! Got a few pieces on watch
  17. Is the Hush splash in a black hole collection?
  18. Never say never ... your art can still find its way to the light
  19. Good stuff. I also agree that the term Grail has a pretty specific meaning and it almost never gets used as such. I also agree that grail in the context of this hobby has a different meaning and I don’t mind that at all. I do raise an eyebrow for those collectors that are often posting about acquiring another grail or seeking several grails. To each their own. Here’s a real conundrum …. What do you do when you know or suspect that your grail is in a black hole collection. How do you find or acquire your G-Hole piece of art?
  20. Good stuff. I can see the distinction here. As a point of clarity, I don't personally think of myself as a black hole collector in any way as I love to talk about art, especially when it comes to the Hulk and history of the character in comics. I don't have an issue sharing/discussing my collection and love to hear about what other people collect/own. It is great to meet someone who has a collection that is some degree of a black hole = sharing Hulk art not posted anywhere online and not seen by my eyes before. I think this is more of an emerging definition / perspective and describes my collecting habits to date.
  21. Indeed How many A-holes do we estimate to be in this collector category?
