  1. ... but 21K? Apparently I am not in tune with the corner box art market
  2. How are we defining "craft" in this discussion? I get nostalgia but not sure I am following what/how craft is being defined so I am stuck here as well. What exactly are we comparing?
  3. I think there is a thread somewhere on this
  4. There aren't any that I am aware of - a good idea as I would buy one
  5. I like this. Sal's like Pete Rose with power (and not the personal baggage). Longevity counts in my book – especially when the quality of work doesn’t erode over time.
  6. I haven’t read the Patience thread in a while, might need to dust that off. I have a decade plus story of my own. No comic art involved but it is in the hobby. We might see a Bleeding Cool article in the coming months.
  7. Sal has signed (and may still) pages in the panels. He is one of the nicest people I have ever had the benefit of speaking to in this business (I was very fortunate to spend some time talking with him when he won the Harvey lifetime achievement award) and I am sure he doesn’t do this to be difficult in any way (not saying that you are making this statement). I was aware of this tendency and asked him to sign a page in the bottom margin when I met him which he happily obliged. I have seen Sal pages marked as $5 - $10 on the back in pencil so I have to think that he had no forethought that signing as he did would possibly impact value in the future. I would imagine that he felt that someone that wanted his signature on the page would want it to be easily visible and chose the first panel he saw with white space.
  8. Was just at a comic show yesterday and chatting up some dealers that I have known for years. I like to do this to keep to keep up at least a little with what is going on in the hobby and it makes for fun conversation. I don’t know how many times I saw something priced at several multiples of where it was previously. Many of these books I have, sometimes multiples … most of my dealer friends tell me I need to start selling at shows.
  9. It is bound to happen when the collector and artist are in the same state. If/when it does and Bleeding Cool runs the story it might motivate some artists to make good on broken deals.
  10. This gets my vote for the best post in a long while. Sal's career is stellar and his longevity in simply mind boggling (admittedly, I am a huge Sal fan so my opinion is highly biased but I still think he is objectively one of the greats).
  11. This. Art collectors tend to get intoxicated at the idea of getting something from an artist and leap before they look into things like they should. I have been guilty of this myself. You see a commission opportunity and you get tunnel vision and before you know it, you are pushing money at them without setting up parameters/protection that you should. Art is about passion and that can lead to financial decisions that you wouldn't make anywhere else in life. I just got a new roof on my house and had 5 companies out for bids, researched them all intensively, and then made an informed decision and they agreed to take payment upon completion. Sometimes we as collectors need to take more heed before jumping into a commission, especially when it is very expensive.
  12. Fantastic! I am on Catskills list but way down the line ... hoping Sal gets the itch to do a bunch of commissions this year Congrats!
  13. This makes no sense. Did he invoice you for the commission? How was the transaction executed?
  14. Did you pay with Friends & Family? If not, get a refund. If so, I am sorry
  15. Hmph, not what I was hoping to hear. The search continues. Thanks for the info
  16. Same here - that's why I asked for interior drawer dimensions - I need to see how the portfolios will fit and if the DPS port will squeeze in there
  17. Note to self: ask Chris to help with future auction descriptions ...
  18. Well, if you are considering a bid .... you may have just cost yourself a few dollars. Good luck!
  19. Talk about a ringing endorsement. You should get a commission on the sale after that amazing description!
  20. Thank you. 23.5 by 16.5 inches if any others were wondering
  21. what are the interior drawer size dimensions on this? I am looking for something that will accommodate the DPS Itoya I just picked up
  22. Sorry, I thought the news about the Mrs. A series on the CW being green lit went public
