  1. There has to be some long term goals here for the merger....this is not small potato's here...I not saying 2018 but market share...it make sense to have one operation cost effective wise and price control..
  2. With Beckett's acquiring the "other company" in a stock merger, what is the next step for CGC and how with that impact us GA collectors who must depend of their expert advice as to whether a book has been repaired...or something like that. GA collectors need a grading service, especially with current prices what they are. When the "Other Guy" started I predicted that they would either merge or CGC would buy them out and do a stock merger( 60% cgc/40% other guy) etc. Now that they have upped their game and added tremendous capital to the their operation, look for expansion/faster service CGC cannot afford to stay in its position . What about CGC....here is my prediction, actually a few. 1-CGC is bought by HA.com They could do it and write a check, it would be a change of dynamic for them , but they save $$ with in house grading of every book put at auction, their website expertise would help CGC out, and it could lead to more purchases and of course Ha makes the big bucks on coins, a natural for a merger. 2-CGC is bought by Steve Geppi Big tax write off, cool merger with the "comic book price guide", possibly liking all comic shops to the CGC as grading stations, a lot of possibilities here with this one. 3-CGC and Beckett and "the other guy" still merge The most likely here, really this is how business works, buying market share...look for a 65/35 stock split with CGC on top. But since they both operate in Florida they could consolidate operations for higher profits. Folks the future is exciting ...stay tuned..what are you thoughts?????

  4. keep up the good work..it will pay off...hope a great GA collection comes thru the door
  5. Just don't buy for scam bay ..I mean e-bay...there are too many good comic book dealers and auction houses out there with plenty of material which you are sure to get.
  6. Superman will be 100 years in popular culture in 2029...I still think he will be there a a major force. Comic book and Art have dual purposes now that they have become mainstream and open to a world wide market. When I purchased my Action 1 for $1800 I did not care what I ever got back in terms of exit. I enjoyed the book. Today now with prices and widget boxes to turn these into investments we have dual collectors and collector investors. My advice is NEVER buy something solely for investment in the collectable field. Buy what you love and respect. Comic books and comic art are NOT real "investments". Real investments return capital such as dividends on stock, rents on real property, and crops on farm land. The ONLY way you can make any money on a comic book investment is to HOPE that somebody else is gonna pay more. You are not gonna receive any income or dividends from your investment and over time inflation will eat away at that value you paid even if you make a paper profit...you have sit on it and pray somebody else is gonna believe it is gonna be worth more..in the future and that creates limits on return or exit when the time comes to move on. We all can claim doomsday 100 years from now, nobody will know or care about a comic book or comic art...I say SO WHAT we won't be around to find out. However, Buy what you Love with understanding that your exit might not be pretty.
  7. CGC always comes out the winner...regrade over and over again..
  8. sounds like some big upswing if you can purchase the books from purple and turn them into "gold"...opps I mean blue....
  9. We have much better ways and access to out past thru ithe internet then we did back in 1940's looking back to the 1920's. So we can "save" the info and items, plus its now a world-wide market thanks to the internet . Great art, great comic books will always survive 100 years from now, they just have a much better chance of not being forgotten given out technology to preserve them.
  10. The Elvgrens were lower tier , generally there are 6 for sale, this time 3 and none of them were really any good, not even tier 2 more like tier 3. This market is picky. The nagels were nice, not great but the george petty was outstanding...I was outbid on that one, it went for double estimate or there abouts, The HJ Ward was very strong at over 80K and it was an above average example. There just is no quality, look at the earl moran paintings in this auction, pieces out there that are being sold, whereas years before there were 10 to 12 outstanding pieces per auction . When the george lucas museum is built and an increased awareness is created then you will see the market make a major comeback. If quality pieces hit the market also look for renewed interest, its just that good material out there is being held onto, there are some mighty fine Elvgrens out there...it's just when and where they hit market.
  11. the trend is that new comic sales are down, big time, stores are closing, we are converting into a graphic novel type society, with the collectability of new comic books down to zero
  12. still it is or was a big part of his life...we will never know I guess
  13. thumbs way UP, impressive...is there a reason why no 18-21...different title? or just not in existence ?
  14. It would be really interesting to get Alan's take on the CGC/ grading thing and current prices....
  15. I believe he went to the entertainment industry at some point as an assistant ..then boom, no info...
  16. Ebay is and will forever be a garbage can...a risk ..and it works on collector greed..to hope you get your books, in the long run use Ha or CC, or CL or great dealers like bedrock and gator...fair prices and you will get what you pay for....
  17. I get it now...he does not want to be found, he has moved on.....from comic books...
  18. 750K at this point seems reasonable, what is the status of the Meyers lawsuit with CGC....did that ever settle?
  19. another e-bayer looking for a sucker that thinks there is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow......folks pay a fair and reasonable price for CC,HA, and CL and have no worries
  20. agreed, they should of done it one week earlier than Ha.com
  21. back in the day, it was the comic book collectors lifeline.....he and bob overstreet deserve to be in the comic book hall of fame as early collectors and both help us to be where we are today..on the boards and the CGC...if you are READING this Alan..THANK YOU
