  1. classic cover,, does anybody have a peak of the inside?
  2. early shows were great and very personal....but interests have expanded which is not a bad thing, still to get true comic book shows back to the roots, where they are for comic book collectors we need to support all of these shows...
  3. great photo, and such good material there at the show back then, but still SDCC rules in my book and I like wonder con better comic book wise in way, but these new one or two day shows have real potential with the right push
  4. this is a new trend, anti establishment in way..true comic book collectors show in which serious buyers have access to quality material, such as Terry's show...it would be wise for somebody to set up string of national shows with GA/SA dealer input or possible partial ownership and create a new convention circuit
  5. If you had attended those early shows, they were amazing....with the GA/SA comic books being the main thrust...I can understand the "change" but it still is a Kick-asss comic book show today. With BOTH we end up winners, now the real question is attendance...who is going? and what people who are already in SDCC would make the trip to both shows on the boards...?
  6. 20 bucks in todays money does not get you much...so its quite fair in my opinion
  7. "people who want to buy comic books are no longer going to SDCC"...food for thought....first lets take SDCC 1973 probably about 3000 attendance amd 2000 serious comic buyers if that.....I would venture to say, that there are more comic book buyers/coolectors going to the 2018 in terms of raw numbers.. Yes at 130,000 the convention has grown in other directions but the core number still there, and yes the core number does get kicked the curb with all the toy buyers etc...I think that statement is not correct and I dont think we are gonna get that number up. I support these new shows..they are great but going to both is better.
  8. Are you going Gene? According to the website ONE admission price for BOTH shows...pretty amazing and it's only 20 bucks, and you should put the link up on the original art section.
  9. That is a true leg up on san diego if you are a true comic book collector and I welcome it and hope the word gets out.
  10. if you can get a free pass on Sat, just come by my home and I will take us to the Qualcom, and you are welcome to have dinner with me later..just pm me
  11. One, and most locals know this, nobody parks near the convention, they take the trolley in, its free parking at mission valley stadium. 2d,The hotel situation has gotten a lot better with Air/BB etc, nobody should pay hotel prices, and most semi-localsl like yourself should get one day pass, no expenses necessary and one day should be enough if you are just on the floor. Prices of comics tend to come down on Sunday, when everybody is getting ready to go home, that is the best time to buy, the floor closes early at 5 however instead of 7. Third, it still has the best, and I mean the best comic book panels in the universe, some the greatest moments I have been luckily to see with my own eyes, such as the original forbidden planet panel just to name one. I agree, it has changes but its more like the glass half empty vs half full..still best show on the planet when panels are added in.
  12. The estate admitted they were disappointed that John Carter was "disney" dumbed down, and are hopping for some "real action" in the reboot, it is in the discussion stage as we speak.
  13. The show is improving every year, as far as multiple keys, for example comic connect display etc, SDCC is still King, I hope Terry expands the show next year
  14. I hate to disagree, and I have been to 98% of all of them since the beginning. But in terms of high quality GA/SA it is still the SHOW...if you want to see Action 1 in real life that is the place to go, more than one of them. It has changed, I prefer in terms of pure comic book collecting Wondercon, has the old SDCC 80's/90's feel and well balanced. So for Ultra expensive CGC graded top of the line, SDCC is still king. But the size of the SDCC has grown so big, that it really has become intimidating in term of a show. I support 100% these new comic book related Dealer "pop up shows" as well as the san diego other comic book show which is coming I think on 4/20 this year for collectors to feel what it used to be like. The convention realized early that comic book dealers were being pushed out or "lost" in the sea of so many different dealers, so they located GA/SA in a section, as well as original Art which is helpful, this happened to wonder con this year, I think for the first time. SDCC has become very difficult to get in, I agree with that but i SDCC still is "king" in my book
  15. very nice Love that SA9 cover..CONG
  16. In The early Cons of the 70's Gold and Silver dealers dominated the convention floor and comic books were the main focus , today even if the Gold/Silver section were to go away the conventions would not, especially SDCC. Still it feels that this is the best balanced show and you have room and time to TALK to people. Some of the interesting things I found out, Mad, thru Jack Richard still has a circulation of 150,000 and and is moving production to California, Jack thinks even if print comics decline Mad Mag will outlast them print wise. I talked to several people that download their comics now and they listed not having drive to a shop, and the ability to get it instantly as the major factors for the change so the medium will NOT die and folks will be interested for a long time in comic art. I was encouraged by the young wave of new creators and their energy...talked to several of them and encouraged them to follow their dreams. Did not see a lot of cheap solo dealers with $1 books, which I feel is necessary to get new people in comic book buying and possibly collecting. On the flip side a lot great and new projects out there relating to comic art and comic books. I was happy to talk to the ERB estate, and they are hopping for a "netflix" 8-10 hour series on a John Carter Reboot. The back issue market is strong but the dynamics of selling has changed to Auction, E-bay, and Amazon, so I see a continuing decline of dealers coming to shows or a decrease in table size and hopefully there can be some type of discount for the "old time dealers" otherwise cheaper venues will pop up and take the slack such as Terry's show in CA...which should look to expand in terms of days and location if possible. Amazon knocked out Bud Plant last year at the SDCC to ONE table, this next show could be his last. The times they are a changing, but NOT all bad. Wonder Con was 20% bigger this year with 3 rows still yet to go for exhibitors....so if you are on the fence, show up next year, I will...
  17. Great show, in some respects better than SDCC, I liked the fact this year that had a Gold/Silver section, two books I was looking for where sold a couple of hours before I got there, larger show than last year and a larger crowd but still feels like a real comic book con
  18. A+ material is a winner, great investment and will go up, I agree
  19. Lucas collection has to be in the top 3, and combined with art possible #1, sorry Jim
  20. George Lucas has one of the best Comic book collections in the world, I believe he completed it sometime after the Empire Strikes Back in the 1980's, he had a straw buyer for him during those days, he also bought OA from Russ Cochran, including a carl barks original duck painting...this will come out when the museum opens and some exhibits hit the public....he also was a silent partner of a famous new york comic book store in the 80's....
