Bump, a couple folks were asking to leave kudos.
  4. I'm all for making easy comments on speculator books ready for a crash but I really don't think this applies for TMNT 1. Strange Tales 180, Nova 1, Superman 18 OK, fine. I'm with you. But TMNT 1 is a true must have for many collectors. Natural limited print run, tough black cover, historically significant to comic book history and on and on. So if this book doubles in price as it seems to be doing, shouting out "Bubble" just seems to be sour grapes. While the movie can certainly drive prices higher, TMNT has had and likely will continue to have multiple waves of pop culture influence. While movies are the most important; the toys, cartoons combine with the comics can't also be underestimated in taking up brain space in the world of collecting pop culture. Also, that 9.2 seemed like a soft 9.2 with a couple visible flaws IMO. Suggesting a pretty strong price. However, it was bid up by one bidder which gives me pause for red flags on legitimate FMV.
  5. Saying Spiderman (or FF) > TMNT is like saying 9.6 > 4.0 Was money left on the table, maybe. And if you had to twist my arm I'd say AF15 got the better end. But the clear very recent direction of TMNT 1 is clearly up and a smart owner of a TMNT 1 in 9.6 would know that and demand a premium of sorts.
  6. Fixed that for you. While both were done by Miller, Daredevil was good, Ronin was not. You could argue the covers to Ronin were pretty good.
  7. You are entitled to your opinion, but I think you are conveniently ignoring the informed statements of several of the dealers who have been posting on here. As for "true collectors" wanting the book, yeah I don't know about that either. I think it's more like a book most collectors in fact pass on, unless they do have some sort of nostalgic connection to the turtles. I honestly do not personally know of any collector that has that book on their must have list. Though I do know of many speculators who want it "now" so they can flip it and move on to the next hot property. However we are already seeing some price resistance in the upper grades, and I think the mere fact that a guy was willing to trade a nice looking AF 15 for one is more evidence that we are nearing the end of this little TMNT 1 cycle. -J. Either way, the price is close enough to each other that the trade isn't bad for either party. No doubt the AF 15 is the easier sale at any given time. And an argument can (and have been made) about volatility and price movement upwards due to movies, past price moves etc. But fundamentally the price is determined by popularity and these books have both in spades. Not only do the demographics support TMNT 1 with the "rule of 25 years" propping up the price for years to come, but current demographics support TMNT 1 as young pre teen boys love the turtles year in year out. BTW, there is no question the Spiderman has that support as well. And there is no doubt Spiderman is more popular than TMNT, or that AF 15 is more important than TMNT 1. But is it 4.0 > 9.6 more important? I suppose that's the rub. And I'd guess that 4.0 is about right for where the trade is basically a wash. Where is it for you? coverless? 2.0? 3.5? Either way its like the old Churchill quote about the Socialite: "Mr. Churchill, what kind of woman do you think I am?!" Churchill: "Madam, we've already established that. Now we are haggling about the price”
  8. That TMNT have such staying power with the kids puts TMNT 1 on the map as a must have book over and above Turtle collectors. Art to believe that they have been going strong for 30 years and are as beloved by kids as ever. I also agree that a clean but creased white page AF 15 is a lot more attractive than a chipped Cr to OW one or a 4.0 with a "small piece of tape" etc. So the book matters. Same with the TMNT 1 - if it even had one spine line or corner fleck, I'd pass on it as a soft 9.6 Ed
  9. Given the transaction history of AF 15 and number of copies sold AF 15 is the king of comics.
  10. Indeed the 35 is the book to get but with 42 such a better cover, that one may start to spike and soon.
  11. Man, that is nice especially for a UPC copy. I'm convinced a UPC 9.8 would and should sell for a significant premium over a Direct edition. IIRC this book was sold in a 3 Pack but only the Directs.
  12. If we get into value in terms of $$$$/comic, my list would be a lot different.
  13. I just got in the 8300 and ma very pleased with the images. I'll ask again, does anyone know how to scan more than one image at a time. As in the fastest way possible. Pretend there's a stack of 100 comics. 1. I dont' want to have to preview each image Or if I do, I don't want to have to crop it every single time. 2. Can I set the dpi, color and lighting for all images to something other than default. 3. Is there a way to not "save to file" each individual scan. I think I have 2. figured out as it seems to keep the settings from image to image, but can't solve 1 and 3.
  14. With the 8300 is there a way to set the color and lighting ahead of time if scanning 100+ comics. I don't want to have to do that after the fact if I can help it.
  15. And then a full run of 1954 Maid in France - 30 1 sheet chapters Bound Over - 10 1 sheet chapters Bondage Correspondence - 9 1 sheet chapters This link is a guy selling ebooks of the Maid in France and gives a background on these. Otherwise I found very little via google or ebay. These are done on Photographic paper which is pretty cool. I believe he did some risque Bettie Page stuff as well. While NSFW, there's minimal outright nudity, but clearly not PG. MODs if you want to delete, feel free but this is pretty tame stuff, all said and historically interesting at least.. http://www.30sg.com/content/802-mif-sw-pp
  16. Some more nice GGA or similar. And some late 1970s early 1980s undergorund mags - part of the collection.
  17. Here we go. Score of the Month!!!!!! for 1/2014 Nearly all VG - Fine with a few with tape. Hoping for an OO collection but this was probably bought in the late 1970's early 1980s. I'll show the rest of the (non FH) books shortly.
  18. A bit of a tease but I just picked up 60 fiction house in the wild. Nice shape too but I only saw them via FaceTime. Most are the classic GGA - wings, rangers, jungle, jumbo. Can't wait to show them off.
  19. Have a full cover Superman 5. I'd pay $200 for a nice coverless.
  20. Great transaction on some oddball books.
  21. It is a magazine that is also a first appearance in the comic universe. How that translates into importance and price is up to the market. Conan (among others) first appearance is in a pulp and is highly collectible. No one can argue that comics have a greater fan base and command higher values than pretty much all other print matter. And the Conan pulp enjoys its value and popularity due in a huge way to comic collectors (who are highly influenced by TV/Movie/Gaming media) much moreso than the stand along pulp collector (does that even exist). Along with that 1978 photo of Boba Fett. Art prelims, posters, new articles, even the infamous promotional comic sales ads predate comic 1st appearances. Ed
  22. Starlord, Rocky Racoon? But the MSS 22 seems to have been massively printed as were the Treasury's. And Treasuries can't be CGC'd but does that hurt or help?
  23. I believe this did (Spring 1980) with Star Wars 42 Dec 1980. And there's a UK weekly I believe preceded the MSS.
  24. I'd go with an Archie 50 club. Who wants to see a Jalopy rolling down a hill when you can see VA-VA-VA-VOOOM instead.
