Comic Con Revolution Chicago — June 1-2, 2019
Bearcatcoach replied to mysterio's topic in Comic Events
Just curious as to why you think Wizard "deserves" to go out of business. I only set up at 2 of their shows (Chicago & Columbus) but everyone I deal with is more than professional and they seem to care about the product they produce and the industry in general. $$$ wise I can't complain on how well I do. Would I like costs lower...sure, who wouldn't. Are there some aspects that that I don't care for....yeah, I'm old school but times change and so must conventions I reckon. A strong health Wizard means a strong health comics market so I wish them only the best even when at some point I eventually will no longer do shows. That's just me....to each his own.... -

My wife has been setting up at an outdoor festival over Labor Day weekend the last several years selling the pottery she makes. The last couple years she has had me bring some cheap toys/comics and to help out at the booth. This year put up a "we buy comics" sign and got a lead that came to fruition yesterday. 20k comics later and a lighter pocketbook....I have a bunch of work to do! Never had any 35 cent variants through the years (at least that I know of) but finally found a few as I started to sort this collection....and NO they are not for sale at the prices on the bags (just wanted to clear that up before I got a bunch of PM's....lol). Just sharing that this stuff is out there if you put in a little work to find it..... -

Nope not me.....I almost attended the University of Cincinatti in 1980 but at the last second went to Ball State in Muncie IN.... And I ended up teaching and coaching at Muncie Central for over 30 years....the mascot for Muncie Central is the Bearcats and I was the head wrestling coach so that is the origin story of my CGC name.....

And I strongly recommend the Indiana Comic Con.....there will be some sellers who do Gem City as well as Indiana but there will be many new sellers to choose from too. Lots of great comics at this show....

#6.....We'll have 16-20 boxes of mags at Gem City in a couple weeks....come see Mark Scott Comics. If the layout is the same as the last couple years we will be off to the front right with 3 booths. #4..... Undecided if we will bring $1 to 50 cent because multi-day shows cost so much anymore that we need to bring product that will garner more profit.....probably answers the question why you must not have seen much of them in Lexington. We have been setting up at Gem City since day one and love how this show has grown....it also helps that the promoters are great guys too.....

Case in point.....stopped at a Half-Price Bookstore but didn't really find anything. On the way out a guy called out my name and it was someone I have bought comics from in the past....long story short he was wanting to move around 7 short boxes. I bought them of course...about half was bulk but did have a few nice ones.....this was the best. Missing the back cover but otherwise complete......never know what you will run into if you are out looking.... -

I don't mind sharing info. The guy used to buy comics from me at shows years ago....hasn't been buying for quite a while now. He called me cause he needed some money and knows I would be honest with him on evaluating the books. Key books I paid 75% of guide...non-key 25% of guide.....miscellaneous stuff I paid $1-$5 each depending on what I thought I would charge. Wasn't going to look up everything in the guide when I know if I'm just going to put it in a $5 box or whatever. Won't get rich buying this way but it's fair and the seller is almost always happy when I do a deal like this.... -
