  1. Was also reprinted on Our Love Story 33 cover... Indexer Notes Pencils originally credited to Ron Wilson, changed by Nick Caputo on December 23, 2010, based an interview by Ron Wilson in Back Issue, who noted that his first cover was published some eight months later (Supernatural Thrillers # 4) Someone pointed out that the hovering face is taken (or pasted) from Jim Starlin's opening splash on the interior story. http://pencilink.blogspot.com/2009/02/my-love-20-jim-starlin-art.html Nice detective work. I guess the cover was Frankensteined together. And it explains why Starlin got a cover credit from some sources.
  2. Great stuff, Tom. The #11 is a very sweet addition to your run.
  3. All sorts of killer books there. Great books and great covers. Starlin, Kane, Romita. I've always liked the reprint books with new covers.
  4. I know, me neither. But it sort of follows a pattern. Sal did the covers for #16 and 18. At least according to GCD.
  5. Sal Buscema? Maybe? He did a handful of covers for My Love around the same time.
  6. I don't know. But I have noticed that CGC's label notes have gotten more generous with some books over the years. And I think the My Love #20 is the only graded copy. So maybe it's lack of interest. But I'd guess if it were a Romita cover, it would find its way onto the label.
  7. That's a great copy, John. Looks way better than the assigned grade. Congratulations!
  8. Great books, guys. Here's my only relatively recent addition:
  9. Thanks for the list Barton. I can hardly wait for the ensuing difficulty I look at it this way: about half the books are pretty easy to find in high grade. The rest are either pretty tough, very tough, or almost impossible.
  10. Here's a list of all the 25¢ Picture Frames, sorted from toughest to easiest in 9.4 or better. There are no 9.4 or better copies of Special Marvel Edition #4. But there are 7 9.2s. There are no 9.6 or better copies of My Love #14, Mighty Marvel Western #16, or Marvel Tales #33 No 9.8s for 10 out of 31 books. Daredevil Annual #3 is the scarcest hero book in 9.4 or better.
  11. I started with the squarebounds then the addiction grew to harder stuff. Some of the squarebounds are a real challenge as you probably know. My Love #14, Special Marvel Edition #4, most of the Westerns, and Marvel's Greatest Comics #34 can taunt you for years.
  12. Not anymore. I sold off all the Subby and Iron Man undercopies. I think the only Picture Frame where I still own two really sharp copies is Rawhide Kid #93.
  13. I slept through that Subby Annual too. Argh. It's a great copy. That thread had all sorts of goodies. I'd be happy with a well-centered 9.6 FF #120. My copy isn't the prettiest book in my collection. Astonishing Tales #12 and Fear #11 have been elusive for me in 9.6 even though there are some out there. And I've never been able to find a 9.4 Where Monsters Dwell #14. Beyond that, it's mostly kids, humor, romance, and reprint titles that fill up my want list. When I'm on my death bed, I'm going to curse Millie the Model.
  14. I'm like you with the Iron Man #54s for those two books. I upgraded my Subby #43 three times. Thanks to Jim M, I finally got a keeper with the Oakland copy. Just one upgrade on the Iron Man #44. It was an eBay Buy-It-Now that was probably the fastest trackpad click of my life.
  15. An update from the Department of Useless Information: Since November 11, 2015, just a handful of extra tough Picture Frames have been added to the census – 7 books in about 10 months. There are still 15 books without a single 9.4 (or better) in the census. Millie The Model is still playing very hard to get. New additions: Li'l Pals #1: 1 CGC 9.4 Marvel's Greatest Comics #39: 1 CGC 9.4 Marvel Triple Action #6: 1 CGC 9.6 Two-Gun Kid #103: 1 CGC 9.4 Avengers #103: 2 CGC 9.6s X-Men #76: 1 CGC 9.6 No copies in CGC 9.4 or better: Harvey #3, 5 Li'l Kids #4, 7, 9 Millie The Model #194, 195, 196, 197, 198, 199 My Love #20 Our Love Story #20 Ringo Kid #17 Special Marvel Edition #4 One copy in CGC 9.4 or better: Chili #18 19, 20 Harvey #6 Li’l Kids #5, 6 Li'l Pals #1 (now 2 9.4s) Li'l Pals #2 Marvel's Greatest Comics #34 Marvel's Greatest Comics #39 (1 9.6, 1 new 9.4) Marvel Triple Action #6 (1 new 9.6, still 1 9.4) Mighty Marvel Western #17 My Love #14, 16, 18, 19 Our Love Story #17, 18, 19 Rawhide Kid #103 Ringo Kid #13, 14, 15 Special Marvel Edition #6 Two-Gun Kid #101, 102 Two-Gun Kid #103 (1 new 9.4) Western Gunfighters #8, 10 Western Kid #3, 5 Wyatt Earp #31 Tough hero books in CGC 9.6 or better: Astonishing Tales #12 (1 in 9.8, 5 in 9.6) Avengers #103[ (6 in 9.6) (now 8 in 9.6) Avengers #105 (8 in 9.6) Captain Marvel #22 (4 in 9.6) Daredevil #86 (1 9.8, 4 in 9.6) Incredible Hulk #158 (6 in 9.6) Iron Man #44 (6 in 9.6) Sub-Mariner #43 (6 in 9.6) X-Men #76 (4 in 9.6) (now 5 in 9.6) X-Men #79 (1 in 9.8, 1 in 9.6)
  16. I'm sure all of us are in that boat. I know I am. Some books are almost impossible to come by, and when they do show up, trends be damned. Get it while you can. I'm with you guys. I know I've overpaid for many books over the years. But it never bothered me too much. But it's the books I let get away that I have regrets about.
  17. Avengers Annual #7 and Marvel Two-In-One Annual #2:
  18. I passed by Variety on my way to high school every day. (That's not me in the photos. But I probably had the same hairstyle back then.)
  19. Evil Squirrel Comics? Looks like they've closed down. https://www.yelp.com/biz/evil-squirrel-comics-chicago
  20. Comic Kingdom was my first regular LCS too. Though I occasionally took a long bus ride to Larry's Comics on Devon Avenue for back issues. Joe was awesome. Larry was probably the prototype for any comic shop owner to ever appear in a tv show or movie.
  21. The Our Love #14, SME #4 are both very difficult in high grade. And the ASM #104 is probably the toughest Spidey from this era.
