  1. Here's that article from the June 1995 Comic Book Marketplace. Their hard-to-find grade is VF or better, but the list is still pretty similar.
  2. That is a great list Frank, thanks for that. I've figured those out by the market and what has come up. I went after the #11 as one of several I had never had luck finding many of. Same for #4, and of course the other obvious issues. That is a great list. I had an issue of Comic Book Marketplace from the 1990s with an article about the toughest ASMs to find in high grade. Hopefully, I still have it somewhere. I'll try to find it and see how the list compares. If memory serves, I think they were right about many of the tough issues.
  3. #11 is a bee-otch in grade! I actually kick myself to this day for selling my 9.0 PLOD copy... #11 was the last book I needed when I was trying to complete my ASM run in 9.4 or better. After I bought a copy a 9.4 copy, I re-subbed my 9.2 and that book came a back a 9.4 too. There are worse problems to have, I know.
  4. I called again today and actually got a very reasonable person on the phone this time. I told him the situation and he advised me to send all the appropriate information to this e-mail address: complaint-response@paypal.com By the way, the buyer closed the complaint against me about an hour ago.
  5. Interesting. I think that'll make me amend my terms on any future sales threads: PayPal is ok if I know you or you can provide references I personally know.
  6. Any of the folks who have been subject to his shenanigans can do that. As one of the three I say throw him on the list. As another victim, I say throw him on the list. And as a complete non-sequitir, I just want say beware of buyers from the Land of Enchantment who share a name with the author of Moneyball. (For some reason, those words just popped into my head.)
  7. Sorry that you are going through this with that buyer. Have you called paypal yet? Personally, I would just to state your case and stress that a missing label shouldn't really qualify for a refund. Plus, maybe it would alert Paypal to what this guy is really up to. Hope this works out in your favor. I did call PayPal. Twice. The first time when he opened the dispute. The second time when he opened the claim. The agents I spoke to didn't exactly inspire confidence. It sounded like they were reading from scripts. The second time I called I just wanted to be sure that they wouldn't issue a refund until I indicated that I received the returned book. He has to provide PayPal with tracking information. And I'm thinking I'll videotape myself opening the box if I ever get it back.
  8. I already had a COTL #36, but I'm trying to find a killer copy. Besides, it's hard to resist werewolves in space.
  9. I don't have a pic of the top label, unfortunately. The scan of the top label from few posts back was a different book than what I sold to this guy. That scan was only to show that a missing top label bugs me so much that I Frankensteined one together with Photoshop. (We collectors are crazy about things, I know.) The book I sold this guy was a Thor #337 CGC 9.8. And it was a new label book.
  10. Thanks, Don. I just want to be clear - the book's top label was firmly attached when I packed it up and shipped it. I guess it magically peeled off in transit. (Is there a sarcasm graemlin?) Glad the scanner settings are working for you.
  11. He currently has a thread going in the Want To Buy forum: link Notice how he mentions "Paypal preferred".
  12. you may have to wait for the paypal outcome and see if the book is returned before you can nominate the buyer if you want, out the buyer anyway and see if he/she shows up here Yes. Please out this person so I don't have to sell to him. I'd like to know as well I didn't realize the reholder fee had been bumped up to $80 a book. Sounds like someone's dipped in the peyote bucket again. I countered him with a $30 refund and he accepted. That should cover a reholder and some shipping assuming it really is damaged. The guy's user name is gecko157 for those of you that care. I guess it is resolved but he is now on my ignore list and I will never have any dealings with him again. gecko157 just opened a $50 PayPal dispute against me. Here's what it says: "The top label of the book has been removed. You did not disclose this to me prior to the purchase. I would like to send in for a refund or I would accept a partial refund to have the book re-slabbed." He never PM'd me after receiving the book. Just opened a the dispute with PayPal. The sale was for $130 shipped, by the way. I packed the book myself and the top label was still attached when I did. I e-mailed him back through PayPal just to send the book back for a full refund. I'm curious how this will play out. In the meantime, I think sellers here should be aware. Sorry you have to go through this...it makes no sense for him not to even contact you...but are both transactions Gecko 157? I didn't see the name of the first transgressor listed? Yes, gecko157 for both transactions. I just highlighted his screen name in Darrel F's post about him. And he just escalated the PayPal dispute to a claim. Even though I had already told him (through PayPal) to send the book back for a full refund.

  14. Thanks for the support, guys. For what it's worth, it bugs me when the top label is missing from a slab. So much so that I took the time to photoshop together a replacement label. I'm not very photoshop savvy, so it took me a freaking long time.

This guy sounds like a real pain in the . The top label wasn't missing. At least when I packed up the book. If he does return the book, I bet it'll be missing then.

  17. I'm curious what the top edge looked like before the book was subjected to the blade. The rest of the book is so nice, I wonder how bad it could have been. Can you tell where the color touch is? Stan did a nice job with the signature placement, by the way.
  18. Great book, Don! White pages too. Don't see that much with Spidey #5.
