Thanks for the info.  I will pass it along.  I was told that the first grader (first person to remove the book from the bag) noted this:  top right piece detached in bag - placed between pgs 3&4”.   When asked about this, he said the piece was already detached and floating in the bag.

Would this mean that the piece is still in there between pgs 3 & 4? Why would they put it there? Is that common to put a loose cover piece inside a book before encapsulation?

Paul was an eccentric hoarder of comics from 1940-mid 80’s. Starting with Batman #1. He also hoarded pulps, fanzines and girly mags. His stash eventually filled 3 storage spaces and the buyer’s garage and spare bedroom. Was a well kept secret. Me and 2 other guys bought most of it. What we didn’t buy, went to small local cons. A lot is spread out now all over the collecting community. I bought all of the later AA and GL Harlequin issues. I would have bought yours if I’d seen it. Problem was the stuff was totally mixed up in hundreds of cardboard boxes. So when the buyer opened a box, he never knew what he would find. It was the biggest collection I have ever come across in the LA area. What a great ride.

I was about to ask what it was that identified this. I took a  look and I see Paul written at the top of the front cover doh!. I didn't notice that when I bought it.

Nice report. Thanks for posting. You got some fun books. Especially that All American 93. It is a “Paul” copy. A HUGE collection that surfaced in LA about 8 years ago. I got in good with the buyer of the collection. Every few weeks he would call me to look at what he unearthed. In addition to a ton of other books, I bought as many of the AA and GL Harlequin issues as I could get.  That must have slipped through the cracks and eventually made it to Chicago!

Thanks for the info, I've never heard of a Paul copy before. I love it when someone can identify a book that way. It's one of the great benefits of lurking around these boards.

(by the by, I'm still looking for a couple Harlequin covers if you ever want to let go of any :wishluck:)

Was there a crime spree this weekend at this show?  Thought I saw somebody talking about it on Facebook.

There were a couple of books stolen. I think I heard Reece's had a Hulk 1 taken

  5. Is been pretty good for me. Got there late on Friday so rushed through looking at some wall books. Spent a lot of time flipping through boxes today and picked up a few books. Pretty good selection of GA. Hoping to make a deal on something tomorrow :wishluck: and then I'll have more time to try to get some pics.

My only complaint is that artist alley seems a little hard to navigate. Was difficult to locate the artist I was looking for but I found her eventually. Hopefully I can pick up a commission by the end of the day Sunday. :manhero:

I have added and indexed hundreds of books for GCD, and eventually just gave it up.  The editing and approval process was so cumbersome that it just wasn't worth it.  The only times I ever get emails are when they are voting for new editors or policy changes or something.  When you log in you can check what you're currently editing from your Profile page.  Did you try to add it as a Canadian version of US Andy 21, or as a Canadian comic?

I've had a few of these Ace International / Trans-Canada News editions, and I believe they've all been 36 pages (4 cover pages + 32 interior pages) -- even when the US original was 52 pages.  Cover mention of the book being 52 pages is always deleted and/or replaced with some other language.  If you don't mind sharing, is your copy also 36 pages?

Yes it is. Thanks for mentioning this, I was going to ask about Canadian page counts but wasn't sure which part of the forum was most appropriate

  8. I recently purchased a book that I didn't realize was a Canadian version until after I received it. Not a problem for me but I wanted to research it a little for page count and such. Turns out this version of the issue isn't in the GCD so I thought I would try to add it.

I made an account and attempted to add the issue following the instructions as best I could. It's been a few weeks and it hasn't been added. There was mention that someone might contact me about it within a week but no one has. I can't seem to find any contact info on the site to follow up on it either.

Can anyone shed some light on how the process is supposed to go? Or maybe someone knows who I could contact? The book itself is nothing major but since I put some effort in I don't want to just let it go.

And here's the gem of this thread,

Eerie Tales 1, VG 4.0. Tough book in any grade, doesn't show up that often and rarely does it show up in better condition than VG. This copy is solid and complete with usual wear for the grade. Lots of stories by former EC artists. This magazine, although only a one off by Joe Simon in 1959, was definitely the prototype that would later lead to the Warren magazines and other comic magazines that would follow a decade later. $300
