  1. I have no idea how rare that particular edition is, it just looked neat to me today. @Surfing Alien, any idea how scarce that one is?
  2. As for the others: The Pockets are both Stated Pocket 1st. The Ellison wasn't part of the batch, just something else the store had today. I've seen the Pyramid version plenty of times but the Ace doesn't turn up nearly as often.
  3. So, my local book store called me and told me he had gotten a box of (mostly) 50's paperbacks and comics, the paperbacks fairly decent and the comics ranging from "bits & pieces" up to about VG. I wound up getting a bunch of books and comics for more than what he paid for the box, but better than I could have expected for the material in general. We'll start with the Hammett. The Pocket Red Harvest is a stated Pocket 3rd, the Reader's League has no printing info, and the Maltese Falcon is a stated Perma Books 1st.
  4. Two in today. The Mandrake #5 is from the John G. Fantucchio pedigree and an upgrade, the #8 is the first copy I've owned.
  5. Galaxy has "Autofac", Imagination has "Project: Earth"
  6. Not nearly as impressive as yours, but I'll take what I can find:
  7. Shadow precursor. Not saying that's a particularly accurate description... I really don't know... but I do know it's been cited as such.
  8. I've only recently completed the run, so the whole thing is on my "to read" pile. 12 has Crandall art and Jeff Jones has a long story in 13.
  9. I find all these discoveries amazing, I just don't have anything to contribute to the discussion.
  10. 20 and 21, since Whitman wasn't including issue numbers at this point:
  11. If has "Prominent Author", Orbit has "Tony and the Beetles"
  12. Oddball question: Do the Yakima pulps have any particular tells other than they're in really nice shape? I'm not that far from Yakima- 150 miles or so- so I'm wondering if there's anything I should look for in the books I find locally. Not that I have more than a handful of books in condition nice enough that I think it might be worth further researching, but I figure I might as well ask.
  13. Kayo Books is my favorite active bookstore even if I only get there about once a year, hopefully I'll be able to get there when I'm down in SF in May. I wasn't able to during my visit last year because they were moving and not really set up for browsing.
  14. For better or worse, a lot of bands on shirts are just art to people these days, with no awareness of the band itself, or even that there was a band in some cases. How do you annoy somebody wearing a KISS shirt? Ask them to name their favorite KISS song. When they have trouble, ask them to name ANY Kiss song. (For reference, my favorite KISS song is "God Gave Rock & Roll To You II", which is a somewhat eclectic choice, but I've loved it ever since I first heard it at the end of "Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey" in the theater.)
  15. The Future has "Sales Pitch", the Space SF has "Second Variety"
  16. We wrap up the Charlton run with my distressingly correctly cut #18, and pick up several years later with the Gold Key/ Whitman #19. My run of the relevant issues is fairly random as to which version I have, the Whitman or the Gold Key.
  17. When asked, I'll say The Prisoner was the best TV series ever made. Not necessarily my favorite, although it's pretty high up there, but the best. Nolan is on the short list of creators I would trust to try to do something with the property. Not sure if they would succeed, but I'll be interested to see them try.
  18. Pat explained those other great books he posted. With that said, there is at least one story that appeared under the name "Richard Phillips" because he had two stories in the same issue of Fantastic Universe.
  19. As stated in the ad itself, it's the first page of the story.
