  1. Not nearly as impressive as yours, but I'll take what I can find:
  2. Shadow precursor. Not saying that's a particularly accurate description... I really don't know... but I do know it's been cited as such.
  3. I've only recently completed the run, so the whole thing is on my "to read" pile. 12 has Crandall art and Jeff Jones has a long story in 13.
  4. I find all these discoveries amazing, I just don't have anything to contribute to the discussion.
  5. 20 and 21, since Whitman wasn't including issue numbers at this point:
  6. If has "Prominent Author", Orbit has "Tony and the Beetles"
  7. Oddball question: Do the Yakima pulps have any particular tells other than they're in really nice shape? I'm not that far from Yakima- 150 miles or so- so I'm wondering if there's anything I should look for in the books I find locally. Not that I have more than a handful of books in condition nice enough that I think it might be worth further researching, but I figure I might as well ask.
  8. Kayo Books is my favorite active bookstore even if I only get there about once a year, hopefully I'll be able to get there when I'm down in SF in May. I wasn't able to during my visit last year because they were moving and not really set up for browsing.
  9. For better or worse, a lot of bands on shirts are just art to people these days, with no awareness of the band itself, or even that there was a band in some cases. How do you annoy somebody wearing a KISS shirt? Ask them to name their favorite KISS song. When they have trouble, ask them to name ANY Kiss song. (For reference, my favorite KISS song is "God Gave Rock & Roll To You II", which is a somewhat eclectic choice, but I've loved it ever since I first heard it at the end of "Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey" in the theater.)
  10. The Future has "Sales Pitch", the Space SF has "Second Variety"
  11. We wrap up the Charlton run with my distressingly correctly cut #18, and pick up several years later with the Gold Key/ Whitman #19. My run of the relevant issues is fairly random as to which version I have, the Whitman or the Gold Key.
  12. When asked, I'll say The Prisoner was the best TV series ever made. Not necessarily my favorite, although it's pretty high up there, but the best. Nolan is on the short list of creators I would trust to try to do something with the property. Not sure if they would succeed, but I'll be interested to see them try.
  13. Pat explained those other great books he posted. With that said, there is at least one story that appeared under the name "Richard Phillips" because he had two stories in the same issue of Fantastic Universe.
  14. As stated in the ad itself, it's the first page of the story.
  15. If has "The Trouble with Bubbles", the Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction has "The Little Movement", one of his earliest published stories.
  16. I'm only 52, but that doesn't really argue against your basic point that well.
  17. The 14 appears slightly miscut in that the top of the Charlton logo is cut off, but I'm not 100% certain that wasn't really just a bad job in production pasting up the cover. And the 15 doesn't appear miscut at all and is marked for replacement, as discussed. But it will do for now.
  18. Beyond has "Upon the Dull Earth", Galaxy has "Shell Game".
  19. Your mailing address is still visible on the 2nd picture. I would definitely keep them in the mailers; there can't be very many copies still like that. Not something I'm in the market for, but definitely cool, and even if I'm not a potential buyer I'm sure there's several people out there who would be.
  20. I vaguely recall this as well. It would help if we could get pictures of the mailers, to see what they look like. Depending on what they look like, I suspect the unopened mailers would command a premium over the opened issues unless you luck into 9.8 on the grading. But that's just a guess.
  21. Like most new writers, it took him a little while to become the creator we know and love. Of the 34 magazines I have that I've scanned the covers of, PKD makes the cover 10 times. Two of the issues don't list any creators, and 14 of them only list one or two. Two of those, PKD is the only creator listed. I would say he probably got his name on the cover as much as all but a few creators. Other than Heinlein and maybe Asimov, I can't think of any creators who ever reached the point where they got cover credit every time.
