  1. That's more than I paid for my restored Action # 1 for gawd's sake...
  2. I remember an auction in the UK that had copies of most of those rare early DCs, it was from the estate of Denis Gifford some twenty years ago. Gary Dolgoff was bidding, Fishler bid by phone, and Harley sent a pal of his up to stick his hand in the air and leave it up for most of the lots, inc the Timeley Annuals.
  3. Ah-hah...so it was you that kept out bidding me...!
  4. I put staples into an Action # 2 from an early fifties Black Magic. It wasn't noted on the label, but there was plenty of resto to the book anyways.
  5. Disney shilling anything Galactus or X-Men related ?
  6. Yes it's a 5.0, but with problems, I'll dig out the scan and send it to you.
  7. I can see why you would say that, but the under copy is actually out in Oregon being worked on, so it will probably be a good while yet I'm afraid. You're quite to welcome to put first dibbs on it though 👍
  8. Many thanks for your encouraging words Lou - it seemed like a wise purchase to me at that grade/price point, even I already have a lower graded copy...have to say the next man up looks tremendous 👌
  9. Recently I read some Facebook comment saying that 99 % of collectors won't touch a restored book with a barge pole...my reply to that is that you'll more than likely never have a GA collection then, unless you win a few lotteries.
  10. I bought that one, and surprisingly there were no other live bidders. Someone had previously bid their max and maybe had to go to work or whatever, so I just had to figure out his top bid...thought there would have been more competition on that one, like there was on the More Funs.
  11. My humble new addition courtesy of Hero Restoration...
  12. Imagine what it was like trying to deal with him in person. He got hold of Christine's number once and called her up. The next day he calls me to complain that she wouldn't let him have whatever book he wanted from her, and I'm sitting there thinking what a terrible thing to do, to call someone you don't know, when you've been told not to, and then complain when they don't want anything to do with you...I think the word I'm looking for is 'entitled'. Christine told me about that when I met her, she was really upset about it. It was quite funny when his computer crashed and he was bleating on about having lost Robbie Williams ' phone number though.
  13. They were restored, lots of the big books were, he was always strapped for cash. I think I remember him telling me that Matt N pretty much recreated the cover to the 27.
  14. Glad to get a mention - I did bring that New Adventure # 26 for Ian, I remember Harley throwing it across his table to me. The Adventure # 40 in the pic I bought for him on eBay in the UK. He once told me that his Girls' Love # 3 I think it was was actually a Canadian copy with different contents, so technically the collection was not complete...All sold off now anyway. I had a really good chat with Christine one night in NY, a very nice lady indeed.
  15. I was amazed myself at what is actually possible. When Matt first assessed the book in it's slab, he couldn't have known how bad the interior was, and big ups to him and Kenny for going the extra mile, and not revising the original estimate for the work after dismantling the book. It took a while to finish, but I couldn't be any happier with the results !
  16. Here are a few once the book was cracked out from it's (competitor's) holder...
  17. His main man Kenny did the actual work...they basically split and leafcast every wrap.
  18. Here's mine back from Matt Nelson, started out as a 3.0, and he said the pages were rather brittle...
