  1. Looking forward to a bunch of white guys taking a stab at answering!
  2. I haven't noticed them being particularly harsh on tanning recently, though they may go easier on older books regarding certain defects. I do think they are overly harsh on small stains, especially when the stains do not substantially affect eye appeal.
  3. I received one of these once with a comic I bought off ebay. I found it to be pretty flimsy, much less sturdy than a single half or full back. The clarity also doesn't allow for a great view of the back cover either. Interesting idea but not a worthwhile investment.
  4. Yes, I'm somewhat familiar with Miracleman. What's unclear is why CGC would label Warrior 1 as Marvelman's first appearance when the standard practice in such matters is to qualify first modern appearances as "First modern appearance of character X" or occasionally "Reintroduction of character X".
  5. Wouldn't the first appearance be Marvelman 102?
  6. I grew up with the Smurfs cartoon and was a big fan as a kid. When I became aware of these books a few years back I started collecting them. I've owned each in grades ranging from incomplete to slabbed 7.0. I've also sold copies to prominent national dealers who are well aware of what these are. I agree with the sentiments above that these are legitimate keys, or at the very least, issue 1071 is a key. With that said, I suffer under no delusion that these books are rare, as that term is generally accepted. Relative to lots of Golden Age books, surviving copies of which may not exceed a few dozen, thousands of surviving copies seems like plenty to fulfill demand. Regarding the census, low numbers may simply reflect demand rather than actual scarcity. See, again, many Golden Age books with as few as zero copies on the census.
  7. Maybe the title of this thread should be renamed to, "What I collect rules and what you collect sucks."
  8. Man, this thread is crickets. Better luck next time, Richard.

  16. As a GA collector, 200K copies potentially available may as well be 200 million.
  17. There was an interesting market curve on these two books over the past few years, based on my observations. Once it became more known that these were the first Smurfs appearances there was somewhat of a frenzy for them, with 1071 & 1072 seemingly going hand in hand pricewise. Prices escalated quickly. Then copies were suddenly being made available left and right and it didn't take long for collectors to realize that these books were not all that rare so prices started dropping. Now collectors are realizing that they can be a bit more selective when choosing copies to buy, with 1071 taking the clear lead as the more desired book.
  18. Except it happens all the time.
