  1. Much like comics the definition of "old" can be deceiving as well as what is "valuable". If you live close to any large city they will have a book shop that purchases books that can be found via google; but you should set expectations very low... like extremely low if they will purchase anything.
  2. I sent an email to one of Jim Lee's reps on March 20th and it was replied to on the 25th and I am going to hopefully assume it was off the cuff. I contacted the SS@CGC email per below: and received the following reply 4/1 which doesn't exactly line up with the response from Jim's rep: Given how little CGC has chosen to communicate and just outright lied I have little faith the "next few weeks" statement is accurate or even came from Jim's team. Gas lighting is a step up from normal though...
  3. After questioning the whole thing that is actually what confirmed it and I edited my post.
  4. From what I remember Lyria is just a simple indexing site, there really isn't anything to purchase, even the underlying framework is cut and paste. I would be very interested in how CGC is participating in this destruction of OA covers. New Valiant already scammed their NFT "investors" a couple years ago and stopped paying their artists/writers (or any bill for that matter) scamming more money. Any cut-up original art needs to be authenticated and Shamdasan trying to use CGC to back it. I do not see a market for this at the price point being offered, the cheapest being 3K for a 1.87 inch piece that the website says only 13 remain.... I have doubts but this would be a miss step at best if CGC authenticates this.
  5. Enjoyable collections of complete Drek you say? Behold my stuff! Also have a sealed case of trading cards (plus tons of boxes), the Dark Dominion's are the free "we are sorry for missing deadlines" with various signatures and apology letters. The letter in the bottom left is a missive from the Defiant offices to someone asking for a couple missing zero issue cards. The B&W add is a color guide preview for the eventual back cover advertisement, various pins, mailers, and such. all of this is completely worthless to pretty much everyone; so I generally pick up items super cheap when something new pops up.
  6. It has been an industry secret for over 60 years now but I actually created the idea for CGC encapsulation when I laminated a comic back in 1963. Myself and old Willy B were reading the funny pages and wanted to find a way to protect them from the red menace. At the time we just wrote on top of the laminate what the condition of the book was, this changed in 68 when we met up with true paper gangster Spencer "man of" Silver and started using post it notes. Now that this is public, my representatives will be in contact with CGC so that I can be properly credited... Those on the forums who want to pay proper respects can do so by selling me things HERE.
  7. There are a good number of them on ebay currently with a #1 in 4.5ish selling for $150 nothing else has sold the 4+ times listed in the $300 range. A #4 in CGC 5.5 only sold for $90, a raw #5 in similar condition sold for $50 and there are others in the same range. You should do your own research and settle on a price your are comfortable with listing them, maybe error on the high side and take a best available offer.
  8. looking at past sales probably around $80. I would recommend doing your own research to better understand the market using 130point, GPA, or even just Ebay recent sales.
  9. If you are asking if you can submit a graded slab, then yes. You will need to provide a window bag & board, CGC will remove it from the slab for signature, then regrade it (it may not keep the current grade). When you fill out the submission form you can type in the serial number for resubmission.
  10. Give me my Millie the Model custom label! there are like probably 3 of us...who want it. all kidding aside a multi-use "golden age" custom label would be nice. It could be a collage of public domain characters or one with specific Marvel/Timely/Atlas
  11. JSA will have a booth; I wonder if we will hear something about witness availability next month.
  12. CGC is not exactly consistent with "what" they update or "when". It is likely they use a very inefficient system that someone has to batch update instead of an auto-updater once the file passes an approval process. We could be seeing updates from a month ago they just got around to approving.
  13. Shipped: 3/27/24 Glad this is over now to deal with the facilitator
  14. I believe this will hold true in most cases but there are a small number of us that will pick B "if" (and this is a big if) the book has Todds older signature with the spider stamp, the same with many older signatures (Jim Lee, Fabian Nicieza, Stan Lee's more literate 70's auto) prior to the proliferation of mass signing that shortened a number of artist signatures into quick squiggles.
  15. yeah, that is what I posted.... maybe you didn't understand. a book like the Maxx 1/2 Ashcan cannot qualify for a universal (blue) label without significant grade reduction because as I stated: Now with JSA authentication they can be graded as 9.8 with some type of signature label vice the green label of doom.
  16. Please be careful of Flake Tapper and do not give him any money you are not comfortable loosing. I am sure his zoom calls to discuss legal action are totally legit but nothing he has actually posted supports that yet. As for your predicament; you are out money and will 99.999% never see any reimbursement. Your book is likely still in pieces and worse off than original, from reading the comments Mike has stopped all communication, has sold customer books, reported others as "stolen" (he likely sold them), and seems to just be ignoring everything laying low. Winning a civil case against Mike will not be difficult, collecting on any judgement will. In addition that judgement will first go to additional attorney fees then to (all) customers. I am not telling you to give up, but moderation of expectations is needed after you file the appropriate disputes with the AG, police, etc.
  17. Just for reference; JSA has been authenticating signatures on comics for years. The only difference is they will now be slabbed by CGC as such. I am excited and all for it, my main interest is a number of independent (and 90s) books that were only made with signatures where no Universal label was possible.
  18. There was debate long term when they used that style of inner well any overhang will "eventually" cause damage. It is higher in likely hood to receive damage from the boxes me moved and the comics shaken in an up/down motion. That style of inner well hasn't been used in almost a decade now.
  19. GEI: 3/25/24 Looks to be on time with current TAT.
  20. I have a very difficult time believing there are not shenanigans afoot with this book from 1992 suddenly becoming uber collectable as of January 22 2024 due to an artists name mistakenly printed.
  21. The only thing I would be really concerned with would be shaken comics syndrome. It can happen with any slab but the inner wells from this era had cut-outs at the corners: making the crunch much more likely if dropped/shaken or even in extreme cases being stored upright due to gravity.
  22. In addition to insurance, start thinning your collection NOW. Do not leave a mess for your wife and kids (or extended relatives) to be overwhelmed with in addition to your passing, it can be frightening to think about. At 45 I took a hard look at what I "collected" and why, then started to make a plan in 5 year increments to reduce everything down to a single box (of what is most valuable to me) by 65 when I get stored in the old folks home or start living on cruise ships (market depending).
  23. I specialize in "post life" facilitation of authorized signatures* I will be facilitating Houdini tonight for his special 150th *all signatures are attained using only the most holistic methods.
