  1. This is going to depend on how much you trust CGC not to outright lose or damage your books as the amount you declare will be the max they will give you. If you trust them then mark everything as $400, if the increasing number of "CGC lost my books" threads gives you pause then bump up to the next teir. You should value everything at future replacement value; that last sale may have only been $250 but now it will be on you to find that same deal, pay for shipping, accommodate your time, and hope nothing happened in the market in the six plus months it took to resolve the matter. On principal your should value everything at $400 after all you are paying them to grade the book not grade the book at 9.8, if it comes back at 9.9 or 10.0 it will be worth the declared value or more. If it comes back 7.0 CGC isn't going to give you a break on the grading fee. For reference this is the official guidance: There is a lot of grey area in the "other reasonable method". I very highly value my personal copy of NFL SuperPro #1, CGC may not but that is why items are insured at a starting point by the client and negotiated in case of loss by the business.
  2. Sorry CGC has exemplary double standards judgement to what they deem appropriate to grade, Penthouse just isn't up to the caliber of their standards.
  3. CGC does not allow in person submissions for regular customers at their Florida place of business. You will either need to mail them in or drop them off at a convention they are attending. If these are FSU programs for example they are magazine size and will cost $25 each plus shipping (both ways), any programs you have autographed will not be authenticated (yet) so they will receive a green label with the annotation "Name written on cover" (these are less desirable), when filling out the form you will need to manually enter all the information as it is very doubtful they will be in CGC's autofill system. The real question is are these programs worth the $7500 grading fee?
  4. That is a lot of reading a self inserted argument into what I posted, I don't even know how to reply.
  5. My thought and philosophy when trying to reignite a failed franchise is always this: Simplify the concept and do what works in order to bring back the audience so they can trust you again. If this means rebooting from an earlier film or remaking one of them, nothing is off the table. Stay true to the source material with a good story; this will allow you to re-imagine instead of recycle. Twitter doesn't watch movies; if you chase "likes", you will ground your movie to an audience that isn't going to watch it. This mainly pertains to blatant pandering of any audience type. Embrace new technology; but only if you can afford it in the budget. Ask for feedback in your downstream not the upstream mandating change. Once you have done this and have a successful premiere you can explore new ideas and concepts in the squeal within reason and still have a core audience that are excited for the film. Audiences today are much more inclined to understand when a movie is poorly written than in the past.
  6. I understand this is no doubt meant to be rhetorically argumentative but some in the thread seem to not fully understand that JSA giving their opinion on a signature is no different that CGC giving their opinion on a comic grade. Both have a set of parameters with examples of what a signature or 9.8 "should" look like, if those are not met it is not approved. JSA has made bad calls and authenticated dubious signatures in the same way CGC has horribly misguided books. In the end of the day we are paying a third party for their opinion on something that a buyer and seller can agree on.
  7. Looks like 4 of them are listed on ebay between $8-$15: Stargators
  8. Just to throw more gas on the fire: This is what their website looked like 20 years ago in their heyday: This is what their website looks like today:
  9. I think this is going to be what needs explained out the most as the process is completely different between the companies. I am bias but I prefer them over PSA; there reputation is solid but like every 3rd party there have been forgeries passed. In collecting groups we have the same type of saying "buy the auto not the sticker" (buy the book not the grade) that we have here. When I purchased my Muhammad Ali auto I eventually went with one authenticated by PSA as I didn't like the look of the one by JSA. From the way the announcement reads; they will. I am looking forward to the submissions for the old Wizard Authentic books, as well as all of the limited print 90's ashcans that only had signed copies, and other books that only came autographed.... maybe QVC will rise again with signed comic exclusives...
  10. JSA authenticates everything; Historical documents, military signed paperwork, Celebrity autos... if you're curious here are a couple examples: Full disclosure, I generally use JSA over PSA/Beckett so I have bias.
  11. I can only speak from personal experience but non-comic book people often view CGC in the way CGC purists would view CBCS. In the larger collectibles industry CGC is super niche and generally trusted with comics but has become laughable with their expansion into grading cards (and everything else), right now they are trusted at the same level as D teir garage companies and their cards see low returns when sold. How this is going to effect the reputation of either company is the gamble I would assume. It has always been a struggle explaining that CGC will not authenticate a stan lee signature on a comic and it getting a green label (selling for much less) when they can get a full JSA letter of authentication keeping the book raw and have buyers around the block. JSA also authenticates are (sketches) so my hope is that eventually we will be able to submit sketch covers for "authentic art" and not have to get it graded; which is already being done by CBCS/Beckett.
  12. Contacting law enforcement isn't really going to do anything at this point; sure if you really want to try and put pressure on the company and see if any agency will bite on a fraud investigation, go for it. None of that will help a victim or assist in getting information/compensation while CGC is in possession of their property. Depending on the value the book it may be worth the couple hundred to have an associates paralegal draft a notice of request to inquire about exactly what is going on. The main points being Acknowledgement and holding of property (and requesting receipt), how/who determined the fraud in your specific book, definition of compensation (are they going to pay for with holding of property during the litigation, replace the book, replace the value, some middle ground, and how/when is "value" determined), why compensation is currently being withheld from their admitted error and inappropriately tied to the civil litigation and insurance claims. Speaking of which; request certified copies of both actions as of the dates the book was in CGC's possession (this is being petty). CGC's lack of communication with victims after receiving their books is huge red flag and will likely result in you eventually getting an email with an offer of what they view as FMV "system credit" which it should be monetary compensation for the book, all associated grading and mail fee's incurred, compensation for the detainment of personal property, and additional damages.
  13. I use JSA for a lot of boxing memorabilia as they both witness and authenticate ($10 at a show is still a great deal) and was hearing Saturday they were going to partner with another company and made a best guess it would be CGC. The announcement that they were fully purchased by CCG is pretty big news for the entire industry and will very likely have fallout in the community (one way or the other). I am interested in how this is going to shake out on the JSA side as they are much more known in the "collectibles" industry than CGC and already offer authentication (via sticker) for comic books. Another thing to note is that when you get something authenticated at a show you do not need a witness, you are the one that walks it through the line and then bring it to the JSA table for the sticker and secondary authentication check (which takes 10min on a bad day).
  14. I have never gotten a reply when emailing "signatureseries@cgccomics.com" or the "contact us" form on the website. Back in January/February I directly called in to inquire but that doesn't have any way to track barring recording the call. Surprisingly I do get replies (within 1-2 hours) after texting but it is has always been the same response. Edit to clarify: I texted asking for an update on the Jim Lee signing as I get a reply from them. I have not sent an email to SS@CGC since they didn't reply last time. This isn't just me, it is a CGC problem with communication after they have received our money and books. When an advertised signing is delayed in any way, for any reason, there is a complete breakdown, and all forms of communication immediately stop (we are never told about this until enough people complain on the forums). This is a direct and focused management decision that I don't even think you have the power to intervene/push back on.
  15. In the beginning of January I read through the 30ish issues of "the Incredible Hercules" run from 2008 IIRC. It was a pretty fun read with some nice humor, action, mythology, and Koi Pham and Clayton Henry had some really good art in the beginning of the series. I would actually recommend this for anyone that likes Hercules or Amadeus Cho.
  16. € - Euro £ - Pound if you want to get spicy we can use the Cuban Peso: ₱ or the Iranian Rial: ﷼
  17. Another 4 weeks have passed and still no update... when contacted CGC supplied the same cut/paste response as previous.
  18. Depending on speed of the courts this could take multiples of years if the defendants fight it or another 8-10 months if they take a plea and cooperate. Given that CGC is holding these books and not communicating directly with the parties involved it is always advisable to have a consolation with council. It really baffles me why a CGC attorney has not contacted those who have had their books seized under the umbrella of investigation and not provided some type of hold receipt and contact information. CGC really likes to gaslight victims when they lose their books (or mail the wrong ones, or damage them, or...) and try and provide "system credit" instead of actual compensation. Those with books in possession of CGC for this case really need to start asking firm questions on compensation and having someone negotiate for them. For instance will CGC compensate the difference in grade vice the entire book? What is going to determine the value of the book and more importantly when is that valuation concurrent from? I.E. if CGC now has your book are you going to receive the value as of January 2024 average or January 2027 when the case ends. What about compensation for the holding of property; the victim in good faith submitted their book to CGC and now CGC has decided to withhold that book from the victim until an arbitrary date as outlined above. CGC doesn't need to wait for the case to end or insurance they can very easily compensate those who submitted books without any legal admission of guilt. Also, please be very careful when CGC demands you sign an NDA. Have a third party look over it so you do not accidentally get yourself into trouble for speaking about your experience.
  19. IIRC this was a photo shoot in 1983; I always intended to buy one of these signed by Stan but could not trust SLC, and couldn't get a image clean enough to print out myself for an OP.
  20. I don't have any Byrne stories so I will wait until the Neal Adams thread, Shooter thread, or the Stuart Sayger thread.
  21. CGC does not authenticate any direct signature not witnessed by one of their employee's or a facilitator. If you submit this for grading it will receive a green label with a note of "name written on cover". If you want the signature authenticated/slabbed you will need to go with the competition. as for issue not showing up; it is probably not yet in their database so you would have to type what issue it is manually under the "issue not found section" when filling out the form.
  22. Already posted above; but you can not get a yellow label with your current book as it was not witnessed by a CGC facilitator or employee. If you try and send it in you will receive a green label or a blue label (with grade deductions for the signature) and "name written on cover" notes. There is another company that will be of better service if you want to authenticate the signature (you can choose to grade or not). speaking of which: CGC has it's current customer base trained to believe in the "CGC Signature Series" marketing as better than everything else. I do believe this viewpoint is being tarnished by the companies poor CS, communication, and mishandling of books. The Art Adams signing, 8 months overdue and many still outstanding; now the Jim Lee signing in the same boat (5 months); and their partnership with Celebrity Authentic and books being out for over a year now and CGC refusing to acknowledge anything about it, when they were the point of submission/contact/advertisement. The company will need to continue generating revenue above the previous years metric so I can see in the future that CGC would partner with a third party authentication like JSA (Beckett is already partnered with "the other guys"). They would roll it out as a limited partner ship at first focusing on the heavy hitters mostly not around prior to CGC and once the initial traditionalists were silenced they would open it up to all witnessed signatures. Would just be a Yellow label annotated with "Signed by Jerry Siegel" "JSA Z46837".
  23. Frank Millers art and Bob Dylans singing follow the same trajectory.
  24. regardless if warranted or not I always view grader notes on a 9.8 as suspicious and a book you should never crack out. I have the following notes on one of my 9.8s
