  1. I have no problem at all with Ms Marvel's costume. Part of the point is that she's a kid trying to be what she thinks a superhero is, so dressing up in a goofy homemade costume fits perfectly. I don't like the idea of changing her powers, though. There's a lot of metaphorical stuff going on with her body being weird and how it corresponds with her body image, and her image of her personal identity. In the comics, the first time her powers manifest, she shape shifts into Carol Danvers because Carol is strong and beautiful, yes, but also because she is blonde and white. And then Kamala has to work through why she instinctively did that, why she feels that's what she needs to look like to be a hero and be accepted. That was one of the most powerful parts of her first story arc and I'd hate to lose it for some knockoff Green Lantern crud.
  2. I'm dropping the price to $1950. Not trying to get rich on this one, it's just a hard book to value right now. This is a really nice solid book in hand, and looks really nice for its technical grade. Hopefully this will find a good home at this price. Kang is my favorite villain in comics, so movie hype aside, this is one of my favorite comics. Everyone should have one!
  3. I will also consider partial trades, but the only book I am looking for is Young Romance #1.
  4. Avengers # 8 - 5.5 - $2300 $1950 I posted this a while ago on the PGM book forum and the consensus was 8.0. However, there are some defects not apparent from the scans which hold the book back at present ,and I am trying to grade strictly. There are some non-color breaking bends at the top of the book in the middle, by the A in the word "Kang." There's also a NCB on Kang's left hand. The back cover has a small bend at bottom right, which you can see in the scan. There's a patch by the spine above Iron Man's head that has lost its gloss for some reason. Most notably, there are two small patches of some kind of residue on the middle front cover. These can only be seen if the book is held at an angle to the light. I have inquired on these forums whether this residue could be removed with a cleaning and the consensus seemed to be no. The third image shows these two small patches of residue, circled in red. No idea what it is from. Due to this residue, I have a hard time giving this a technical grade above 5.5 despite how nice the book presents. As a result, if you want to have a great looking copy at a reasonable price, this might be your book.
  5. Circumstances have led me to downgrade my Avengers #8. First, the technical bits, then the book. 1. in thread trumps PM conversations. 2. In the case of multiple PMs, or take its, I will go by time stamp. 3. no HoS/probation people please. I'm Crimebuster, not Crimeenabler 4. US and Canada only. Shipping is included. Note for Canada: buyer is responsible for import fees 5. Check or money order preferred, but I will accept PayPal. 6. please pay promptly, I have a crimefighting monkey sidekick to feed 7. If there's any kind of issue with the books, let me know within one week of receiving it and we can figure out some kind of return. But I don't anticipate any issues!
  6. Just watched this finally now that it's on Disney. Overall, I thought it was a flawed movie with a lot of promise. My main sense was that the film was hampered by being beholden to superhero movie tropes. I felt like there was a much better movie that the filmmaker was trying to get to but didn't because of the constraints of the genre. What I don't understand is why those constraints are there - there's no real reason why, just because it's in the MCU, it has to all be resolved with a dumb cgi fist fight. I don't know if Marvel is to blame or the director, but it almost felt like they didn't trust the fans to come along on the journey so they dumbed aspects of it down to try and play to what they think the audience expects. Specifically, the big issue for me was that the deviants storyline went nowhere and ultimately meant nothing. They set stuff up with the deviant, but once we got the surprise twist about the real bad guy, the deviant arc became pointless so they just sort of randomly ended it in a pointless side fight. The fact that the deviants and eternals are essentially the same was thematically rich, especially as the thrust of the film is the eternals finding and embracing their own humanity. A much better way to go for me would have been to explore this by, say, having the unimind require the deviant to be part of it in order to succeed. Having Ikarus reject has humanity at the same time the deviants tried to find theirs should have been a rich vein to explore. Instead they squandered it for a boring cgi fight that added nothing. I also hated the post credits scene. Pip the troll sucks in any context, but that scene was so tonally jarring compared to the movie that preceded it that it kind of crapped on the entire film. First watch thoughts I give it a B-. It could have been great but it shot itself in the foot for no reason.
  7. Depends how you define winner, of course. I'd rather read Green Arrow #4 than Amazing Spider-Man #300 any day of the week.
  8. Closing thread and sending out invoices. Thanks, everyone! Looks like that FF #25 will have to go to ebay. You know someone will buy it and treasure it, god bless them. Those ebay people are a bunch of maniacs!!
  9. One more book before I close this tomorrow. Ghost Rider #5 - $35 This is a nice, tight, glossy copy. I have it around a 7.5. A press and clean might improve it a little. 1st appearance of someone called Roulette. The MVS is intact.
  10. Thor has amazing Kirby universe building stories with huge scope and power. Ego, Galactus, Pluto, Mangog, Hela, Him, it's just greatness after greatness. Meanwhile, Daredevil has Mike Murdock.
  11. Hmm, interesting. Thanks! Here's the printer wrinkle on my copy, which does not have anything written on the first page.
  12. Photographing these giant lots is tiring! So I might just stop with the one unless someone buys this one. I'm going to leave the thread active until tomorrow night and then probably move the remainder to ebay, so send me your PM offers!
  13. First lot of romance books. This is not part of the 10% off deal, price is as listed. Lot of 53 readers. Mostly DC, mostly 10/12 centers. Grades generally range from 1.5 to 4.5, more towards the lower end. There may be a couple outliers on either side of that. $250 - lot A
  14. I don't know anything about this comic, so forgive me with a dumb question. I do have a copy, no signatures or numbers or anything. However, it does seem to have the production defect crease that has been shown and talked about from the early print runs. I'm just wondering if all copies of the book had this, and if not, whether it means anything that it has this defect? Just trying to learn more. Thanks!
  15. Everything 10% off! I will be back tonight hopefully with a final batch. It will be a few large lots of low grade romance, SA and BA, mostly DC. Large lots as in 40-50 books each.
  16. Love Romances - $20 Note small tear at spine through whole book. Right edge fc is slightly brittle. This is a tremendous Al Hartley cover. One of my favorites.
  17. My Own Romance #13 - $20 Bottom back cover is kind of janked up. Top middle of book has a small bend through it. Cover is a bit crusty at that point, see tear middle top fc.
  18. Betty and Veronica #52 - SOLD Flat, tight, glossy, nice colors. Rusty staples, some migration. Page quality surprisingly nice considering the rusty staples. Slight crease in middle, see Archie's hair.
