  1. I didn't quite get through Capaldi's run. I did check out a couple of Whittaker first season. Capaldi is excellent, but the writing let him down. I also thought Whittaker was good, but stuck in some blah stories. Both deserved better from the show I think. Honestly, all the doctors have been very good. Problems with the show are almost never the star's fault.
  2. I'm not sure the thing is anything. But, just to play along. It could be Doctor Strange flying with one of those mystical shields he makes.
  3. Hello, friends! Just a quick note that the Kickstarter campaign for my new comic Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam is ending on Monday, so we're in the final couple of days now. Just wanted to let you know in case you were interested but hadn't backed yet. If you want to, now's the time! And if not, that's totally cool, I appreciate the support everyone has given me! Here's the link one more time!
  4. They somehow ended up with this mess at the end of the run.
  5. Petty sure, yeah. I have #158-713 and I don't remember any issues without this logo until the reboot with the new #1 (#667). The only exceptions were variant covers I think, but the regular editions had this one.
  6. Archie had the same logo for 666 issues. #1: #666
  7. Based on the info there, it seems to be people who are still alive. I'm struggling to think of A-list DC characters where that's the case though.
  8. The part that jumped out to me was this, which isn't relevant to Wolverine, but: "THR learned of an instance in which the co-creator of an A-list DC character secretly maneuvered behind-the-scenes to have themselves listed as the sole creator on paper, with regard to merchandise or adaptations, cutting their partner out of payments. According to a knowledgeable source, the other co-creator only learned of this maneuvering years later when a Warner Bros. theatrical employee noticed the discrepancy ahead of the release of a movie featuring the character. (The wronged co-creator now receives payments, but is said to not be on friendly terms with their former collaborator.)" Someone's gotta know who they're talking about.
  9. One thing I wanted to mention about this issue is that it is considered to officially be the first issue of the ongoing series by Stan Sakai. This is a distinction that may be too fine for casual readers or collectors. But given the constant reboots and relaunches that are commonplace in comics now, "1st Issue of the ongoing series" kind of loses its importance when there are several ongoing series. This is of course true of Usagi Yojimbo which is now on its 4th ongoing iteration, so there are four #1s not even counting the Summer Special. Marvel addresses this with their legacy numbering, so no matter how many Avengers #1s come out, you can easily see what the real, first one is. What most people probably don't know or care about is that Usagi Yojimbo also has legacy numbering. It's on the inside of the book. Here's a recent issue: Under this numbering, Usagi Yojimbo Summer Special #1 is the first issue. Usagi Yojimbo #1 (1987) is the second issue. I doubt most people care or that this will move the needle on price, but I think it's important!
  10. It should also be noted that there are some variant covers in this run - some pretty early ones, as this came out in 1998. There's a store excusive variant cover for #1 featuring Kang limited to 5000 copies, which is the big one. There are also multiple variants for issue #4 though I don't know any print runs. Right now none of the #4s seem to be any more or less valuable than the others.
  11. Hello, friends! There's just 9 days left in the Kickstarter campaign for my new comic Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam, so I thought I'd give another update for those interested. Right now, we're fully funded! Hurray! So thank you all for the support, I really appreciate it! The official goal was $2800. As I'm typing this, we're just short of the first stretch goal, so I haven't announced any of the future stretch goals yet. But the scoop is this: in order to break even, I actually need to get closer to $3700. If we don't make it, fine, we're close enough so I don't mind taking a small loss in order to get this comic made. I'm not expecting to make money on this! But if we do get to the $3700 mark and this is self-sufficient, I and my artist Jay Piscopo will be doing a second issue. That's basically the last stretch goal (plus some other rewards) - guaranteeing another issue of the comic. If not, again, no problem. This story is complete and self-contained. But I do have an idea for a sequel I'm excited about, so we'll see what happens! With 9 days left, I think it's possible we might be able to reach that mark. Anyway, just an update and a little peek behind the creative curtain! I'll be back with another update next weekend as we go into the final push. Who knows where we'll be then!
  12. Avengers Forever #9 has the detailed origin of Kang for those interested. Not sure if it's been retconned any since, but as a Kang fan, it blew me away when I read it at the time.
  13. Quoting myself because I'm excited!!
  14. This was Immortus. He's always like this. It's why Kang hates him so much, because he doesn't want to turn into a yammering old man. Kang has been my favorite villain since I started reading comics, so I'm over the moon. I think it's been pointed out, but the story in Avengers #267-269 was clearly the foundation for this. Details obviously different due to the MCU, but the bones are there. Curious if Avengers #10 goes up from this. If they said thename Immortus it would have gone up 10x already but you have to know the character to understand it's him.
  15. Well, we're almost halfway through the Kickstarter campaign for my new comic Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam, so I thought I'd provide an update. Right now we're at 87% funded, so it's going pretty well. The campaign is in the dead zone at the moment, so I'm grinding out cross promotion posts and stuff like that to try and get some more eyeballs on things. I also recently added 11x17 prints to the add-ons, and that helped, as several people adjusted their pledges upwards. It was a request from a backer, so it's nice to give people what they want! As always, thanks for all the support! I've also only got a few more of this variant cover left, so people seem to be liking it a lot!
  16. Sure! Bronze is my favorite romance era. I think things start changing a little earlier with romance than some other genres anyway - I see Bronze elements creeping in by 1967. So there's a lot of overlap in eras.
  17. My guess (more like a hope really) for the man in the high castle is Immortus 🤞
  18. My new comic Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam went live on Kickstarter today. Unlike my ongoing series The Crimebusters, which I've shown art of before, this one I am only doing the writing, with art by Jay Piscopo. However, I did draw some of the variant covers myself, so I thought I'd show those off here. The comic started as a print I did, and then grew from there into a full length 32-page comic one-shot, so I decided to use the art form the print as a variant cover. It's done as a vintage wrestling poster, so I including some wrestling stuff in the story as well when I wrote it. Here it is: Then, since it's Uncle Sam, I thought it would be fun to do a Cthulhu-centric take on the classic Uncle Sam recruitment poster: And finally, I did this variant mostly for my own entertainment: If anyone's interested in seeing the project, or the art from the other artists who worked on it, you can check it out here on Kickstarter.
  19. Hello, good friends! I'm excited to announce that my newest comic, Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam, is now officially LIVE on Kickstarter! This one is written by me, but with art by Jay Piscopo. The story: at the height of World War II, a secret cult tries to summon the dread Cthulhu, and only one person can save the world -- Uncle Sam! I've shared some of the covers and art before, but here's a look at all 6 covers:
  20. I bought a 9.8 from Heritage a couple years ago but when it arrived the book had a bunch of rippling on the cover that could not be seen in scans, so I returned it. I ended up settling for an 8.5 for 10% of tge price, but I wish that 9.8 had worked out! There could possibly be a Phantom Stranger bump in theory - not sure for what issue though - as he plays a key role in her Vertigo series and is involved in her origin, which was told in the first couple arcs of that series.
  21. I am in the process of doing kind of the same thing, for the same reason. I'm not getting rid of my whole collection, but I am downsizing it by about 1/3 in order to raise funds to self-publish some comics. For the last two years, I have been self-publishing a series called The Crimebusters that I write and draw (you can see the first three issues here on Indiegogo if you're curious), which is a continuation of the Crimebuster strip from the Golden Age series Boy Comics. And I also have a new comic called Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam coming out (here's the Kickstarter pre-launch page) with writing by me and art by Jay Piscopo. But I really want to expand and do more projects, which means hiring more artists to draw my stories. And that means raising the initial capital, so... downsizing the collection! I've sold off enough so far to just about fund one more one-shot, but I have a lot more stuff I'll be selling later this year once I have the time to go through everything. Hopefully by this time next year I'll have a couple more new comics coming out! For what it's worth, I had already heard of your comic on another forum and I'm planning to check it out. Looks cool!
  22. Hello everyone! I'm excited to share with you a live launch party for my new comic Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam that I will be hosting on Sunday, June 27, at 7 pm ET. Everyone is welcome to join in! I also wanted to share some of the variant covers with you. This one is by Ryan Mendoza, the regular artist on Miskatonic High. This will be limited to 250 copies printed, and there will also be a virgin variant with just 50 copies printed: This vintage wrestling poster variant is drawn by myself, and there will be just 50 copies printed: And this one is also drawn by me, with just 25 copies printed: And here's the link to the Kickstarter campaign! Thanks, everyone!
