  1. Except, of course, for that Weird War Tales lot?
  2. Didn't Matthew (Shiverbones) move back to New Orleans? Hope he has his books and art (not to mention himself) protected and out of danger.
  3. Let me ask you guys something. I haven't used PGX in over a year mainly because they don't get alot of respect from the marketplace and I haven't wanted to get my books slabbed by PGX only to sell for under CGC values. I use CGC exclusively for my 1975 and up books. But now I'm thinkin', maybe I should get some of my '68-74 DC horror books slabbed by PGX. No 9.6s or 9.8s in there, mainly 8.5-9.2 with a few 9.4s if I'm lucky. For me these aren't HG enough to spend roughly $25 a slab and wait four months with CGC, but for $14 and one month at PGX it may be worthwhile. So here's the question. Since you guys represent a small target audience for the kinds of books I would get slabbed, if you found a PGX graded book that you were looking for, in the grade you were looking for (nice PQ and all that as well) would you be willing to bid on it, and if so, would you be willing to pay up to the same amount if it was CGC graded instead, or if not, what % of a CGC slab. I'm really just trying to get a few opinions to see if it is worth it, or if I should just go raw when it is time to sell my pre-'75ers. Thanks.
  4. Those are cool books Oct, congrats. I'm getting more into war books every day. Probably because I've already seen or already own all the BA Horror DCs, but I haven't even scratched the surface with DC War books and there are just so many out there. I'm even branching out to the Westerns. I may tackle All-Star Western #1-11 next. Not sure though if Westerns classify as war or not, I mean, is Cowboys Vs. other Cowboys or Vs. Indians war? Or is it just a fight? Also, although I normally don't read my comics, I was thinking of picking one or two to read just to get a feel for them. Any suggestions as to which BA DC War books I should read, any particular issues? Thanks.
  5. I think this one still works because CGC has a list of what book goes with what # COA. I don't know if CGC has a corresponding dealer-given grade for each though. Wyatt also did give me one tip. If sending in multiple Rosa books with certs, write down the cert # for each book before sending them in as you will get all the certs back together in a pile, and not in the bag with each corresponding slab. That way you know what book goes with what cert as the name of the book is not on the cert.
  6. I talked to Steves Wyatt and Borock and they informed me that as long as I send in the corresponding certificate included with every book, in which CGC has a list with books/cert #s, then the book will be designated with a "Don Rosa Collection" note, just like in the Sinister House above, regardless of who sends the book in for submission. Yeah, it may not be a "real" pedigree, but the notation may add at least a little value to the books , and besides, even without the "pedigree" status, many are still really nice books. They had them priced mostly at exact guide. When I could find a potential 9.6/9.8 for $6-$12, how could I pass that up? At least I couldn't pass up the BA DC horror books like that. Example of a $10 Rosa book.
  7. Hey guys. I took the day off from work to get organized with my comics and whip up a CGC submission. I usually don't bother with Economy due to price and turnaround, but Modern submissions are still a good deal and the turnaround isn't too bad. Anyway, I'm sending in some nice mid/late 70s books and a few early 80s. Some of those will be Don Rosa copies. Anyway, I came across this book which I wanted to post. I'm sure others have been scanned in here before, but it is worth another look. Cool imagery.
  8. Absolutely. I just want to complete my run, and it's been 2 years since a certified copy has been for sale. Demand simply driving the price up. Rock Hill is literally a 40 minute drive for me. Except for the top of the book, it looks pretty good. The thing is, there are an increasing number of HG players in this market, so I see the trend going up, unfortunately. But you aren't laughing at me, are you? I laugh at everybody, including myself! After all, it's just variations on the same collecting neurosis. My way is just a bit cheaper. Again ol' Oct speaks for me as well. Yes, we all have our own neorosis and are all anal to a degree (some more than others). But personally I would not laugh at the "VF collector" who can buy a very nice book, albeit with a few small flaws for $5. I mean, is that little investment going to go down? Odds are within a year or two it will be a double at least. Of course it takes alot of doubling $5 books to make any real money, but at least your collectibles are becoming more valuable than less, or at least increasing in value at a higher clip (take my words with a grain of salt though as I am bias to this collecting style). Anyway, I haven't been around much recently. So damn busy with Chicago, then camping, then practicing and a gig coming up with my band. Believe me, I'm looking forwards to just vegging out here and chatting with you guys and scanning some books to show off. Hope I can join the party soon.
  9. Here...just print this out and stick it inside the Mylar. You'll sleep better. Red Now THAT looks nice. Hey Brad, can you do that to my BOOK? Wait, then if I ever get it graded I'd receive a PLOD. What's more important in a case like this, a nice looking book in a PLOD or an untouched copy with an error so big that it sticks out like a sore thumb? Edit: Wait a minute, it wouldn't be a PLOD, it would be a GLOD. Or would it?
  10. Well, now that THAT purchase is ruined for me, I thought I'd scan another book that I bought just for fun. $10 for this book and record set. I've been wanting one of these sets just to see how the record sounds. I don't have a turntable but I have a friend who has a turntable hooked up to her computer and some kind of software enabling her to transfer it onto CD. Should be interesting. This set was opened with the book grading at VF, disk looks a little dirty, but unused. Small bubble on one side though, not sure if that will cause a skip. Any thoughts on this or the other sets regarding the voice acting on the record?
  11. Actually, the thought of selling it did actually occur to me for a moment. Such a nice book with beautiful colors, but seriously, that white spot really bugs me now. I was considering displaying this book on my wall, but now it will sit in a dark box without any attention as the black sheep of my Silver DC Family. Dang cover colorists!
  12. I love those Hawkman covers!!! That is an awesome book! I have always wondered if the "white" area between Hawk and Lion Mane was a mistake. I mean, why isn't there blue sky there? You know, you are right. NOW see what you've done. I didn't even notice that. Now every time I look at this book all I will see is that non-colored area. Dangit! You ruined the whole thing.
  13. The last thing anyone could call me would be a Hawkman collector. But when I saw this book in Chicago, the cover colors just jumped out at me and I had to have it. One of my favorite books from the show.
  14. Well, until somebody starts an Infinite BA Western thread, I figure War is close enough. I just noticed Andy's sig line and I wanted to give him a tease. This is the first scan from my Chicago stash. I'm busy this week so it will take me a while to put up a bunch of the others and give my little report. Andy, you must not have spotted this book because I didn't buy it until late Sunday. $20 for this glossy VF at Motor City. Geez, who says #116 is the best? I also picked up a VG+ copy of #125, another great cover.
  15. I'm not a computer whiz and it took me a while to figure it out. Maybe somebody else here can explain it. But to start you need to attach a file to a post. When writing a new entry and then hit the "continue" tab, before submitting there will be a line under your entry asking you if you want to attach a file. That is where it starts.
  16. I just use the forum in-house system for posting books. Very easy and you don't need to worry about hosting, fees or going anywhere else to get your books up.
  17. I'm really liking this thread. I was just a fictional horror guy but now I'm starting to really get into this more true-to-life horror stuff - war. Not a funny subject. The fact that this stuff actually has some historical significance, or at least I imagine that some stories in some books are adapted from true to life tales, well, that makes these books all the more interesting. I've recently bought several BA DC war lots and will be buying more single issues in Chicago. Thanks for gettin' me interested guys.
  18. Oh absolutely, me too. Thanks not only to Sterling for starting it but to everyone who has contributed. Shiver (Matthew) hasn't been that active recently but a year or so ago he was my biggest influence in this genre when he posted quite frequently. But after seeing all the covers and talk of these books, along with the relatively overlooked factor of these books being ignored by the public at large for the last three decades making them (IMO) currently undervalued (at least until recently) I figured they are a good value. All the factors put together I jumped in making this by far my main comic interest. I've branched out recently into BA Batman and War books and anything remotely "horrorish" but these DCs are definitely my mainstay.
  19. Well, since we are being all sentimental here, I certainly agree. This is my favorite thread but the entire Forum has drastically increased my love and enjoyment of this hobby (in a Viking sort of way).
  20. I haven't posted many covers here recently so I thought I'd put up my favorite new cover from San Diego. This is another one of the Don Rosa books. I just love the colors on this Adams cover.
  21. I sure was. Thanks for posting these books here POV. Now I can reference them when need be. Yeah, I love this cover. I love seeing beautifully drawn women on a horror book cover. Also, in addition to the giant hand, the bats and moon really add to the effect of the piece.
  22. Probably from the new "Don Rosa collection" pedigree. Don is selling his 70s and later stuff on consignment through Steve Wyatt. I saw the HOM 193 CGC 9.8, HOM 194 CGC 9.6, and the HOM 200 CGC 9.8 among other books. Books will be exclusively sold through eBay under a new account --> believe it's "donrosacollection" and will start next Wednesday. Over 1500 9.4 and above books to be sold. Is he selling some of those books at SD? Nope...ll will be auctioned off via eBay over the next while. A new account called "donrosacollection" has been set up for it. Starts next Wednesday. They are going to mix out the titles so it's hard to say what's next. Not all the 1500+ books were there but I did also see a Super DC Giant 17,21 in 9.4 and 18 in 9.6. Also, a Witching Hour 38 in 9.8. Too bad the raw Unexpected 118 "NM-" copy had a pull top staple. Nicest one that I've seen. However, I saw a CGC 9.4 copy for $200. Well Greggy, you didn't tell the whole story. Gregory and I chatted many times on the con floor as we were checking out alot of the same books and we both hung out at the Don Rosa collection for quite a while picking as many cherrys as we could find that were left. Beautiful collection. And yes, the dealers in charge sent in thousands of the earliest and key books to CGC with a 9.4 pregrade but left all the later books up for grabs. I overheard them saying that in sending in something like 2,500 books, only 300 didn't make the grade. BUT, what Greggy did not mention is that ALL unslabbed books WERE being sold at the con. And with a few exceptions this included every Marvel and DC from the late 60s to the mid 80s. Most were graded very accurately and all were priced exactly at guide. Although the slabbed books were just there to create interest, all the raw books were for sale and Greggy and myself both bought many. Although most of the keys were already gone I was able to buy many beautiful NM/NM+ books in all the DC horror runs. Most of these were within the 2nd half of the run in HG but I picked up a bunch of the earlier issues as well in VF- to NM- that didn't make the pregrade cut or were never considered for slabbing. Probably the most noted of the bunch I bought was HoS #81 although it was just in F+. I also bought the Treasury Editions of Ghosts and House Of Mystery, both the nicest copies I have ever seen. Grabbed a few of the digests too as Rosa collected all the oddsize books and mags as well. Anyway, I'll be going through all my books and pulling out the CGC candidates and sending them in. All books contain a numbered COA and will receive the Don Rosa Collection Pedigree status when submitted to CGC as CGC has a copy of the master list with titles and cert. #s. The con was fun. I'll write my full report later in comics general when I have time.
