  1. Sure, and not to mention all the ticked off people who submitted their "bought off the newstand copy", received a CGC 9.6, and are now forced to watch their comic become "common" as more 9.0-9.4 copies are pressed to higher grades. In many ways, this rampant pressing (and clean-and-pressing) has made a mockery of the CGC "high grade scarcity" business model. I agree. "There ain't no such thing as a free lunch" rings true--for someone to gain, another must lose. It's all in a balanced equation. Market correction is inevitable...
  2. Don't make me take out my longbox..... well, my cgc box is heavier....
  3. I have a problem with supporting a business model where pressing is considered an ethical way to make money. An educated market will eventially correct this as the number of high grade copies go up and the novelty of the slab goes down...it's not a free ride by any means.
  4. Let me get this straight, you're HAPPY that someone pressed your books from a wrinkled 8.0 to a pristine 9.6, and you'd rather buy a pressed copy than a virgin, unnpressed and unrestored book? That's some whacky tobacky you're smokin'. I'm smokin some of that stuff too. I'd prefer to get a virgin uncompressed book, but how many virgins are out there?!? I thought so...
  5. Not only that, but a ton of books has passed hands many times over, and the history of a given book (barring a pedigree) has surely been lost by now... How about a family tree for a comic's heritage? Personally, IF I did press, it would be to improve the overall looks of a book that I would keep. If I knew it had been pressed, I would communicate it. But folks, I live in REALITY, and I don't see this changing EN MASSE because of the reason listed above. Either live with it, quit the hobby, or promote change....
  6. sorry to hear about that. I've definitely been mindful of temps. The CGC case adds another factor to consider.
  7. My dad is showing me the ways of the collecting force with baseball cards, money and tobacco tags...but I'd say our love for each other's hobbies are mutually exclusive. If he only knew the power of the comic side!
  8. Do you have a link? Do we have a comprehensive "victim" list?
  9. If I want to invest, I'll park it elsewhere in the US financial system. That's why collecting comics are a HOBBY for me, not an INVESTMENT. In my little world, getting MOST of my money back when I sell is the BEST proposition I can hope for at this point. Yeah, I might do well on my high grade books, but c'mon--I'm not going to get rich doing this. (Unless I want to upgrade my book grades 1 or 2 points, ask for multiples of guide--oh that's another thread-sorry). Just enjoy the reason why you are doing it--the love of the art, stories, and memories. Just make sure you make decisions with your pocketbook in mind and not just your heart.
