  1. flashback HOM 185 /flashback BTW, did anyone noticed the dot before the issue number 21 of the Secrets of Haunted House I posted? They NEVER had an issue #21....
  2. Mine is only a 8.0.... I'd hate for you to have to OVERPAY on that book
  3. there is a lot of cool stuff up there for sure. BTW, today I actually visited my local LCS for the FIRST TIME . 80% or more were 1980s or newer...and what silver/bronze age they had were about midgrade...but the boards and bags were nicely priced! "Heroes Aren't Hard to Find" AND NO MYSTERY BOOKS.... ..should've named their store to- "Heroes Aren't Hard to Find...but Mystery Books Are..." Actually, I met Phil--very nice guy. I will definitely be a regular there at least once a month or so---and there's a StarSchmucks next door... MMMMM Coffee.... BTW, Greggy, what could POSSIBLY have more priority than mystery books?!?
  4. Hey gang, break out your best "SOMEBODY GET ME A DOCTOR!' (Van Halen) horror covers. Here's mine: BTW, can anybody see the defect DC put on this cover?
  5. The old Blagic Magic run is on my list to eventually collect--awesome cover guys!!! (btw, the 70's Black Magic is indeed reprints--I think there was a new story or two )
  6. I found out the hard way--check this thread for some of the books that he graded 9.4--came back 8.0, 8.0, and 6.5. All of his 9.8 books have come back from CGC as 9.4, which is fine enough for me. I really needed WMT #10 though--got outbidded there. The others are just duplicates... BTW he decided to throw in some extra books and free shipping due to the last grading discrepency. (And, he agreed that I could return the books if need be)
  7. That book looks ok.... I'd post my 9.9 but the scanner is broke
  8. Put me down for: Ghosts #36, 65 House of Secrets #133, 137 Secrets of Haunted House #7,12,28,30, 33,34,45 Witching Hour 31, 34, 50, 54, 56 I have some of the Forbidden Tales on your list but they are at CGC now I may have some Weird War Tales on your list but I need to look. Subject to me actually FINDING them. I'll PM to make sure it is in the next shipment to ya.
  9. Post your needed issues--be happy to help out if I have 'em....
  10. nice Witching Hours greggy. Those 20centers are tough to find in good shape in my neighborhood... redhook, IMHO, DC horror books are 'da best'. As shiv said, the quality of the stories depend on a number of factors. House of Mystery tended to have the better stories overall--some of the short lived bronze age titles were good but fell in the "me too" category. Let's take a break from the covers a bit and let's give some of the forum members some stories that you think were of excellent quality. Shiver talked about the evil Easter Rabbit in an Unexpected issue a while back... One of my favorite stories I remember include a man taking a pact with the devil to not let the sun go down (I forgot the reason why). Anyway, the town goes nuts and eventually kills the bloke, and the sun finally goes down....and never has it risen since. I think this is in HOM 282--could someone verify? Totally out of memory...There's a bit more to the story but that's all I remember... Anyone else have a good "devil deal gone bad" story? ...And what the heck was DC trying to do in House of Secrets #140 with the "Patchwork Man"--trying to spin off a new series?!?
  11. although I think this type of conversation could be classified as HORROR, let's get back to the comics, eh?
  12. Oh yeah---the "BA" pedigree. This guy basically bought and placed his inscription in the CCA box. Sold his books about 1.5 years ago on eBay. I think I might even have one or two of his books. The 'pedigree' is self proclaimed, however. I'll dig up my auctions and see if I can remember who it was...
  13. That sounds about right---the #1 that went up last year was around $450, I think I won mine for less and was the Oakland pedigree to boot. And I've been bidding on a TON of Marvel bronze horror books today--and I can't get a decent shot in today. Throw in the towel for another day...
  14. I'll pick up some readers and let ya know what I think...some of these covers are pretty good, and the few issues I picked up as a kid were pretty creepy too (I usually just didn't like the cheap paper and some of the art--but by the time I picked up my copies around 1977 or so they were decidedly going downhill).
  15. Don't mind posting those either, hater! These books didn't do as well, but still nice copied IMHO. Notice that the structure of SOSH7 is at least VF+, but there's a large bindery crease on the front cover that pulls it down to FN. The DMFL2 (another favorite Adams cover for me) suffers from dirty back, and FC ULC and BC URC damage and FC top edge damage.
  16. Actually, the image provider I use stores the image as both a thumbnail and a large pic--I wrap a simple HTML IMG SRC for the thumbnail around a HREF which actually loads the larger image.
  17. 9.6 of course. I just bought two #2s raw. One maybe a 9.0, the other hopefully a 9.4. ----Sid It's buried somewhere in my disorganized mess. I'll see if I can find it and post it tomorrow....
  18. In reference to Ghosts 13: I keep getting "jinxed" on this one. I missed out on a CGC 9.4 copy two years ago, and lost a bid to a NM- copy recently....
  19. OK, to conserve bandwidth and be mindful of those not with fast internet access, I'm providing the links for some books that came back
  20. hey gang--nice posts! Finally got home to peruse my CGC books--and I have to say that I agree with the grades with almost all of them. Unfortunately, I shipped these off "blind" if you will to CGC 3 weeks before I joined the board...The info I know now could've saved me some cash...Some interesting info too I want to share when I can post some pics.... OK, posting pics tonight
