  1. I read the book just before the movie came out. My Uncle had one of the first copies printed with the old black dust jacket where the sharks head looked more like a bullet with teeth. I was amazed at how different the movie was from the book and even though I was afraid to go swimming I left the theatre a little bummed that Hopper did not die as he does in the book even though his character in the movie painted him in a much better light compared to the book. I was waiting for the moment that the shark gets him and Brodie "accidentally" shoots him. He originally was going to die in the movie if I remember correctly, but after Spielberg saw the live shark footage of the cage getting destroyed he changed the -script to fit it in.
  2. Didn't some one here post saying that the 1st print actually got 250 extra copies or around that number from the printer by mistake, after Laird posted that information on his blog?
  3. If it interested I'd recommend the movie "12 Days of Terror" which was a movie made about the attacks.
  4. The interesting thing about the movie is that they released it at the same time the events started in the book, mid-June. The girl at the beginning was killed I think in the book on 15th-17th, and the boy on June 20th, the release date. I actually just bought the book on amazon yesterday to without realizing it, and it is definitely nothing like the movie. A lot more character history, and stories going on. Worth the read if anyone's wondering.
  5. Happy free comic book day everyone! May your books be mint, and discounts plenty!
  6. Don't worry this is probably the only book I bought before it got super hot.
  7. Well, it is our own BronzeBruce (thumbs u ... Thanks David, just sold another privately but still have 2 left. Book is definitely in demand. Hope I can find more. BTW... thanks to all for their contributions in the various "heating up" threads. I read regularly and find the info extremely helpful. This makes me glad I got mind when I did.
  8. Great book, I don't know why, but I always liked the Stilt Man. On a side not did anybody notice the easter egg of him in the Daredevil show?
  9. I just knocked over my copy of X-men 266, and blunted the corner. The corner isn't color broken, so I think a press can fix it. I was already thinking of doing it since it already had some non-color breaking spine ticks, but still why couldn't it have been one of the dollar books next to it.
  10. Thanks, the funny thing is is that the 121, and 128 were part of a dozen comics my dad found when he went to visit his mom. Some how they had gotten separated from the main group, and he had just happened to come across them, when helping her clean up, and organize her things. I was really stoked to say the least!
  11. Yea I know what you mean, the one of a kind thing is what makes me usually up my bid past what I would for comics, but I also have to consider I might find something I like even more down the road. Its how I get myself through it when I lose an auction.
  12. One of my first ever buys. Always liked the Gladiator.
  13. Well the current Clink auction is coming to a close, along with my first ever consignment with them, and also my first ever sell of any comic! All in all it could have been worse, but am pleased with what I got. When I consider how many people talk about how rarely they make a profit, or even close to the original cost of what they payed I did pretty well. With the math I did I originally spend around $1100-$1200 on them totaled together. Most of these were from when I first got in to collecting so many of these I over payed for, not by much since a lot of them ranged from $15-$20 a slab. With the final cost, or at least counting the current price of all of them that haven't ended yet it totaled up to $1,016 minus the %10 clink gets I nettled $914.40. Again considering I over payed for a few of these when I first got into collecting, and took a loss on one big one I think I did pretty well. I plan to put it in my AF15 savings fund, or into my OA fund. Any suggestions on which one it should go towards?
  14. Thanks for the complements Hibou, and Brandon. I also like both of your journals.
  15. Thanks for the complements, and yea I buy everything from modern titles, all the way to pre hero marvel, and golden age horror. I love it all. I started to activity collect comics when I started middle school, which would be around 8 years ago. I had always had a fascination for comics, and super heros long before that though, with some of my earliest memories being watching the 90's X-men, and ASM shows. The first comics I ever got were my dad's spidermans from the 60s up with two old Avengers comics mixed in, totaling around a short box in all. My dad told me he had a lot more comics, but they had been stolen by relatives that helped him move, and the only reason he still had the spiderman ones were because they were his favorites, and personally transported them. Sadly though he did not take the best care of them, in replacement of a short box he put them in a old box that somewhat matched the dimensions of one, and put them in bags that he never replaced so they looked ridiculously yellowed when I took them out. In fact I almost cried when I saw a ASM 14 CRUMBLE in front of me, not to say there weren't a few gems like ASM 50 which graded out at a 4.5 at cgc, and ASM 129 which is around a 8.0, and might get higher with a press. His biggest regret though he told me though was that when he was in college he had a chance to buy an Amazing Fantasy 15 for $100, but passed since he didn't have the cash to spare since he was paying his own way though.

  18. When ever I read sales threads I notice that some people add things on to the "No hall of shamers, or probies', by adding things like " no one on my not to do business list, ignore list, or boardies I don't like, etc." I was wondering what happens when one of those people post in an it in a sales thread? I would think it would be an awkward situation. I'm not talking about a person intentionally trying to on someone else's sales thread, since they know they would be on a list, but a person who is ignorant of the fact, and did not know the seller wouldn't sell to them. What would be the best course of action for that since I think it could also be a bit embarrassing for them if told you're not welcome publicly in the thread itself? Would a PM be the best way?
