  1. Got my first framed piece back. Want to thank all the boardies who gave my advice on how to get it done.
  2. Does this mean you'll be leaving some ROM for the rest of us?
  3. No, but I'll factor in the cost on what it would cost for a restorer to work on it, which would make me offer less had it not have any issues.
  4. Really amazed by the Silver Surfer Requiem death page. Would love to bid on it, but picked something else up.
  5. Reserve was posted at $16,500. I think that price is based more on it being a Miller cover though than a ROM one.
  6. Wow this new venue is close to me, only a few minutes drive for me.
  7. This is great! I love those Spectre covers, this is such an awesome acquisition.
  8. And why aren't they on this Board? Assuming they skew younger...shouldn't they be even more plugged in than older, stodgier generations? Or are they not younger? Or is this Board "lame" to them for some reason (too many "old" guys around?!) Additional question (if Felix is answering any of these): are the majority "one order buyers" (of whatever size) or repeat customers returning again and again at approximately the same spend in each instance, over time? I've had this conversation with Felix several times, and I've spent enough time hanging out at his booth at conventions to recognize what his clientele looks like. They're not on the Boards because they are just very different from us. Younger, yes, for the most part. Not nearly as male-dominated as what we see in the vintage world. Not so interested in what we read and collect - Felix will readily admit that the people who are obsessed with Scott Pilgrim will probably never get into Jack Kirby. Also, while they've made the leap to justifying $250 and $600 purchases (which separates them from most of the general population), my sense is that few are willing and even fewer are able to shell out the kind of sums needed to buy good/great mainstream vintage art. All of which is why me and Felix largely agree on the long-term future of the vintage side of the hobby. If you're holding your breath for the people buying Paper Girls to be Ditko Spidey OA buyers 10 years from now, you will pass out and go unconscious long before then. Also, I get the sense that they're less obsessive than the vintage guys. Maybe it's because we grew up with fewer things, found something that we really loved, and just went full bore with it, while those in their 20s and 30s nowadays have had their interest scattered in more directions. Maybe they're just not as into hoarding and material accumulation as we are; it's often said that Millennials seem to be favoring experiences more than objects. At the end of the day, a small part of modern OA has a thriving niche. But, I think there are a lot of built-in limitations with both the material itself and its audience that will prevent it both from blowing up as big as vintage as well as from being the savior of the vintage market in time. I bet they go online, just not a niche board like this one where things can get very technical, where we talk about paper qualities of 60's marvel books, or talk about the stories from industry insiders about art that went "missing". They go to sites like Reddit or the /co/ board on 4chan, with older stuff rarily mentioned. From people my age (22) I found that they enjoy talking more about the latest book of the week, or showing some image from a certain scene of a book. Some people will say how nice it is, talking about how much they like the artist/ writer but, wouldn't have an urge to buy the OA the image came from. If not that many will still know who an artist is, and what famous work they did, but still not have an example to buy an example from it. From what I've seen many people don't even know what OA is, but at least are familiar with CGC, and even some comic dealers. From collecting habits it also seems people stick to buying cheaper stuff on the spectrum which can cause a lot of hesitation when looking at art prices even modern stuff in comparison can seem expensive. By this I mean instead of individual comics I notice a lot of people buy more trades, and other collective volumes. Not just for older stuff, but newer also. With things like digital comics also becoming a thing, I also think it can cause separation from the product which is important to things like nostalgia, which you claim to be the biggest collecting factor. If you own something digitally, it just doesn't have the same feeling as holding the physical copy in your hand, or saying you still have the copy you bought off the newsstand from when you were a kid. A lot of these people I think are a type of a "Jack of all Trades" in my opinion. Only you apply it to pop culture, and what society thinks of as nerdy/geeky. They like comics yea, but they also like others stuff like Doctor Who, Star Wars, and various cartoon shows. They'll know the basics of these things, but won't really be as interested in any particular one where they might start buying back issues, or Kenner figures. After all if they don't bother buying back issues what will make them want the art it came from? Ending on a more hopeful note, I think we still have to wait, and see how younger people will react since the biggest factor that keeps a number of them from being active is income, with a lot of millennials like me still being in college. After how many people here talk about how they were poor broke college kids who could barely afford comics or art when they got into collecting? Keep in mind this was when a lot of it was much cheaper even with inflation when you account for how high the prices have become. Not having many assets we can't all afford luxury items like collectibles, and if we do its in small volumes. The fact that many younger people will still own a large amount of trades, action figures, or cheaper back issues though I think shows that a number do have some interest in getting in the market, but stick to what they find affordable; waiting for that push to get more involved. Once a bigger segment becomes older, and have less debt with more income I think its possible for a faction of them to become more involved with the hobby. In fact a lot of the more knowledgeable fans who are young I've seen would love to own things like a Kirby, but simply can't afford them. Again for all we know a lot of them could be on this site now, since only a a small amount of users actually post.
  9. Awesome shirt. Time to go do a quick search and find one for myself now.
  10. A lot of nice pieces guys Here's mine. http://www.comicartfans.com/mylowry.asp?gsub=3117
  11. Great picture, it's always amazing to see the quantity, and quality of work that was available back then compared to now.
  12. Finally got my last purchase of the year in the mail today from the last Clink auction. It pretty big at 25.5" X 16" for the art alone.
  13. Having gotten some success on the pin-ups I'll see if my luck will extend to some other things I've had on my list. Sienkiewicz Moon Knight - Any page, cover, splash, and even things things like portfolio plate drawings would interest me. I've found a few pages online, but none that I felt really scratched the itch. If I had to pick a piece it would the cover to Moon Knight: Fist of Khonshu #6. Yes I know, but never hurts to let people know I'm on the radar if they have it. ROM Space Knight- No particular artist I'm looking for. Just want a nice page/cover from the series. The Heros for Hire issue he's in is also something that would interest me. If i had to pick a piece however it would be the cover to issue #75, the final issue of the series. Mike Manley DarkHawk- Any thing with DK in it. DeadPool from the first volume no artist preference Almost any page from Avengers #34, and #35 by Don Heck A page from Dr. Strange and Dr. Doom Triumph and Torment. Really liked that story, and noticed that they don't seem to be on the market often. These two specific pages from from the last issue of Silver Surfer: Requiem. They were both offered in the CLink auction, but was unable to go after them for the same reason as the X-men EDIT- One of these pages has been found on CAF, and I can hopfully convince the owner to let it go. The giant head splash end page from Batman Legends of the Dark Knight #18 from the Venom story arc. Lastly I'm looking for a page from Swamp Thing Annual 2. If I had to choose a specific page however it would be where Etrigan the Demon explains why he wants the flower the Phantom Stranger has in exchange for guiding Swamp Thing. And of course Marvel Fanfare Pin-Ups, and back covers! I'm also on the lookout for the cover to MF #30 featuring Moon Knight. Thanks.
  14. Anybody using the PS4 Pro? I have one, but found that certain advertised 4k tv aren't actually able to display it in 4k, or supports HDR gaming. As for games I'm currently staying with the PSVR, and have had a few games with EVE Valkyrie being the most intense. Also if you have a PSVR headset, and Star Wars Battlefront they have the attack on the DeathStar VR mission available for it free on the PlayStation store. For none VR games I recently got the Witcher 3 since PSN had a sale with all the DLC included around a month ago, and am thinking of getting Titan Fall 2 since I've heard great things about.
  15. I send in a random order of things I'm 90% sure are no longer available, but I figured I give it a try.
  16. Nice drawing by Dan Adkins of Moon Knight. I hadn't gotten anything to add to my Moon Knight stuff so it was a welcome addition. This thing is pretty big also at 14" x 16.75".
  17. Hello, Looking to get some last minute Christmas shopping cash, or wife nagging you to downsize your collection? Well if you think you might have what I'm looking for look no further. If you have any Pin-ups from the first volume of Marvel Fanfare please notify. I've seen the ones that are currently offered, but feel that more are out there. I'm especially interested in the following. - Issue #10 Brent Anderson Moon Knight Portfolio piece - Issue #22 Ken Steacy Spiderman - Issue #39 Moon Knight by Reinhold and Silver Surfer by Layton - Issue #41 Iron Man by Reinhold - Issue #43 Daredevil by Murry Again these are the ones I'm most interested in, but if you have others you think I might like please notify me. Thanks
  18. Congrats, I would think with the black edges that the 51 is especially impressive.
  19. While I always appreciated the ROM mythology, I believe it was hampered by the bad Al Milgrom art. Had the series been drawn by Golden or Byrne/Austin, I think it would still carry some gravitas. Not sure if art would have helped Golden micronauts are nice but not heavily collected I think big bulky robots just don't garner a ton of interest outside those that grew up at the start. I do have a sweet long box of Rom I am going through I would of liked to see Greg LaRocque, Ricardo Villamonte draw a few issues of him. After seeing their pencil, and ink work on him in Power Man and Iron Fist #73 I thought it was really sharp, and really complemented ROM.
