  1. Honestly, a manila envelope with two (or three) sheets of cardboard can be very secure; I do it all the time, but typically use two sheets of double wall cardboard, sometimes three depending on the book/weight. This method is cheaper than a gemini mailer and a helluva lot stronger and stiffer too.
  2. I'm really hopeful it doesn't, however if it does you're probably right that it won't press out considering it's card stock. The book (along with 9 others with newton rings) has been sent back; I'll provide an update whatever the outcome is. I don't want a claim payout, I just want the book back in 9.8. I didn't expect that a book I've kept safe for 25 years would be so carelessly molested like this by the company that was hired to grade and encapsulate it.
  3. yes they did, it's really hard to get a good picture. Looking at it again, the inner well isn't even sealed, there is no seam on the front of the case, so they definitely sealed over the book.
  4. Got this back today, horrible job centering it in the inner well, it's hard to tell but appears they damaged/indented the back cover when sealing the inner well.
  5. I got a shipment back today, below (potato quality) are my favorites (except for the newton rings and damage to the ashcan), at least 6 are going back for ME.
  6. I really wonder if you sent in enough variety of these postcards if you'd get a response from some company that still gets mail at that address. While flipping through a back issue of Heavy Metal magazine this past week I contemplated sending in one with $6 for a large t-shirt
  7. I had a good haul yesterday sourced from ye old facebook. In addition to the below are a solid 2 longs of reader/beater typical mid-70's marvel, and a half a short box of midgrade late silver/early bronze marvel. The GSX1 and WWBN32 are roughly VG-, IH181 has water damage and a missing MVS
  8. Even if you find someone to hand deliver them (or you drop off at a con), you're still going to have to trust unknown quantities of people to handle your books with care (check out the quality control thread), as well pack and deliver the books back to you via fedex. Insure your books, trust the process...
  9. 10. you have to provide more context than this...
  11. Community garage sale pickup, 25c each, also FN/VF run of Shogun Warriors 1-19; the polybagged Comics and Stories books look good enough to submit!
  12. What the heck : https://www.ebay.com/itm/265712424460?hash=item3dddb1d60c:g:nRoAAOSwgyJikm4Q
  13. Modern Slow Track: Received: 3/14/22 SFG: 3/14/22 GEI: 6/21/22
  14. agree, the character in question needs a subjective non-trivial amount of substance in the story, being on the cover is not a requisite (but is a bonus), which is why IMO IH181 is first wolverine.
  15. pretty sure you'll have to pay for reholder if you're not the original submitter AND it's not within a short period of time after receipt from CGC (I believe it's two weeks).
  16. This has to be a logistical nightmare, but would easily explain the inconsistency with tier FIFO Let's do some speculative math Assumptions: 30,000 books come in a week, let's say conservatively 5,000/week are combination of standard, express, and walkthrough and ignore those, so 25,000 modern and economy come in every week +/- Modern - let's say 80% of the 25,000/week are modern = 20,000/week, of the 20,000 let's say 75% of these are slow modern = 15,000/week Economy - let's say 20% of the 25,000/week are economy = 5,000/week, of the 5,000 let's say 75% of these are slow economy = 3,750/week Slow modern currently has an 16 week stated turnaround (81 days), this means there may be a total of 240,000 slow modern books waiting to be graded, e.g. 1,067 long boxes (225/per assuming submissions are intermixed and boxes are packed TIGHT, probably not) Slow economy currently has a 45 week stated turn around (227 days), this means there may be a total of 168,750 slow economy books waiting to be graded, e.g. 750 long boxes (225/per assuming submissions are intermixed and boxes are packed TIGHT, probably not)
  17. Sometimes it's not the seller that's the problem. This past January I went and visited a guy I found through Craigslist selling his father's estate who was a hoarder, so it wasn't just comics but action figures, etc.... The seller was cool and patient, the problem was the other two guys who came while I was there, to look at the action figures. The two guys who came together tried to intimidate and denigrate the seller (who's selling his dad's stuff), with the seller not backing down, which then turned into screaming of expletives, punching of walls, and slamming of the front door (and subsequent kicking of said front door) by the buyers. Apparently the buyers were told beforehand no cherry picking the action figures, you must buy everything or nothing at all, but they didn't like being told that in person. The one buyer flipped out screaming "I only have 500, I want to only buy 500$ of stuff", and turned confrontational when told no and to leave. Anyways pretty scary stuff, I was just about to hit send to dial 911 when the kicking of the door stopped and the the seller came back and explained what happened. People are CRAZY, mess can happen anywhere, gotta be careful. When possible, try and meet in public, even better call your local police department and ask if you can use their lobby to transact. Much of the time, they oblige.
  18. Is that book damage from the holder on the bottom left? If so, may want to submit mechanical error on cgc's dime.
