  1. I believe the Superman looks amazing. Can't tell about the Batman 1 yet.
  2. This is probably a top 10 in my collection. The background story, the year is 1996 and I am deep in college working on my PhD dissertation and getting ready to take my exams. The internet is becoming a more important place and I found a site where you could get peoples address. I knew D!ick Sprang was living in AZ and was able to get his address so I sent him a letter telling him about myself and how his work had inspired me over the years. A total fanboy action but he was alive and I really wanted to let him know how much I loved his work. To my shock and surprise, he wrote back. This is the letter he sent me.
  3. I don't think it is a competition. If it were we couldn't get excited about anything that wasn't as impressive as the the Promise Collection. It has been a while since any auction house has had some of these unicorn books. Look how excited people got over a Detective 27 cover only.
  4. I believe the Superman 1 will be the highest unrestored grade Heritage has ever offered. Highest Spiderman 1 they have offered is a 9.4
  5. Several more goodies listed Ditko Spiderman 29, pg 15 Daredevil 42 cover Detective 404 cover
  6. Pro tip folks, only take financial advice from Jim Cramer, he would never give you bad advice
  7. That is actually really cool. You have to love Buster Brown’s dog
  8. even though it was unpublished I thought it was nice and the final hammer seemed about right.
  9. If the amount of primo material coming to the market is drying up, is it a good time to consign material? Does a B or C grade piece get upgraded to an A- or B grade ? I struggle to decide if prices are going up or not. I guess I am going to declare prices to be mixed, some very high, some about right, and some on the low side. I feel like I have gotten some great deals on Peanuts material lately but maybe my taste in strips is out of sync with the rest of the collecting community. Gene Colan Submariner panel page with tons of action for only $3k, seemed cheap Calvin and Hobbs drawing with an awesome bit at $102k, seemed about right given recent prices. Great Batman Splash for only $3120, seemed like a good deal Awesome Kubert cover for just shy of $23k, seemed high but great cover. So-so Shadow splash for $4k, seemed strong Schulz Peanuts daily for $36k, seemed about right for a CB/Snoopy from 1956 Decent Byrne's Superman for $3k, seemed cheap Weird-Ohs recreation, no idea what they would go for but $4320 Archie Pep cover from 1952, $26.4k. seemed strong Spy vs Spy, about right at $3840 Hulk panel at $5280, seemed strong but this material seems to be climbing
  10. Looks like a Romita Spiderman cover is list. Artwork not posted yet.
  11. Let's not forget the tech crash of 2000. My wife worked for Merrill Lynch Investment Banking. I had Ciena and JDSU stock and was buying a house. One of the bankers she worked for rep'd JDSU and she asked if we should sell. His response was "blue chip, not going anywhere". The next day it lost 20% of its value. I dumped both stocks. Both went on to lose about 80% of their value. 2008 - 2012 was a great buying opportunity as was 2020.
  12. Congrats on the sell Mr B, and an even bigger congrats to the buyer. Picture suggests the book has higher eye appeal than the 7.0 grade suggest.
  13. Congrats, quite the accomplishment. So many great covers in the run.
  14. Bill is definitely talented and a lot of his realistic work is amazing. Just never cared for his work that looked "scribbly". I have never been a big fan of Picasso but love Jackson Pollock who a lot of people would say sucks. Everyone has their preference.
  15. Bill definitely invoked his inner kindergartener when creating his artwork. I for one am very glad Neal didn't take his work "one step further"
  16. There was this guy named Mike (can't remember his last name) that worked at All About Books and Comics in Phoenix, AZ. I would usually stop by every couple week and bought frequently. Mike said he could contact me if they got anything interesting in so I gave him my pager number (cell phones were just starting). I picked up a bunch from him what I considered a very reasonable price. Mike also took me and a bunch of friends to the premier of Batman 3. It was a pretty good time.
  17. Quit buying New Mutants when he started drawing for the title. Couldn't get past his artwork.
  18. Wow, just wow and maybe a OMFG That is beyond shocking. Maybe the underbidder has a chance at redemption
  19. I will take the under but my ability to predict prices on this sort of stuff is not very good.
