  1. Thanks for the compliments. The Mighty Muggs are cheap here in the US (you can get them the cheapest at Wal-Mart, probably). They have tons of Hulk, Spider-Man, and Iron Man, but no Things.
  2. Love the white matting w/ the black frames. Very appealing!
  3. Thanks! I've always hesitated to get into the hobby because I thought the prices for everything would be way out of my range (I'd never done any research), but this was a pleasant surprise. I thought this would be a neat thing to get my wife, and a neat thing to have as a couple. I got it from Anthony's Collectibles website, and it was mailed very quickly (USPS Priority Mail) and packaged well. Great first experience w/ buying original art.
  4. (I posted this in the "Show off your framed art" thread, and wanted to post it here, too, since this is my first piece of "true" original art.) From the other thread: I actually bought this for my wfe - she loves Batman, and loves the Joker, so I was able to find some original coloring book art and surprise her with it! Very affordable way to dip my toe into the pool of original art. Artist is Loston Wallace. Double-matted in reflective silver (not sure if you can tell from the picture) and black. I'm VERY happy w/ how it turned out, and my wife was VERY surprised and very happy. Here's a close-up of the art itself.
  5. Here are two sketches that I recently got framed (picked them up from the frame shop last week, but haven't had time to hang them up yet). First one is a Hulk sketch by Simon Williams (works for Marvel UK). I had it double-matted in green and purple. This picture really doesn't do the green matting justice (I tried to get a lot of light in the room, but didn't want to use the flash on my digital camera). This is a Hulk vs. Thing sketch, also by Simon Williams. Double-matted in orange and green. I was VERY nervous about orange being the main color, but I like how it turned out. (Sorry for the angle of the pic - I was trying to get close enough to the pic so that you can see, but it cut off part of the frame. Oh well.) And finally, my first piece of "true" original art! That week, they had a "Bring 3 pieces, get 60% off!" special. Woo hoo!)
  6. Not really a comic room, but I made a little "Hulk vs. Thing" (my favorite hero/hero match-up) display in our computer room. Got the German Hulk and FF comics from a fellow board member earlier this year. Found that 1974 Hulk model at a comic store, and he's a perfect match for my Thing statue. I couldn't find a Mighty Muggs Thing in any stores, so I got one on ebay (they're $10 in the stores, I won one on ebay for $8 - go figure).
  7. I agree that the red pops the turtles out, and the red line is thin enough so that it doesn't overpower the drawing itself.
  8. Hey Rhino, I know it's a few pages back, but I LOVE this page. Kudos to you for landing it. I agree that the white matting was a smart move, and it doesn't compete w/ the art. Can I ask how long you've had it and how much it was (just curious how much Kirby pages are, you don't have to answer if you don't want to - I'm just very impressed!)?
  9. Never heard of that mag before, thanks for sharing!
  10. [This is a repeat of what I posted in the "You favorite Purchase of 2007", but for those of you who haven't read that thread....] Thanks to fellow board member hesdeadjim, I now own two of my favorite FF Hulk/Thing covers...in German! Many thanks to hesdeadjim for finding me some affordable reader copies, I love them. I didn't buy many comics in 2007 (we just bought a house), but I think stuff like this is really neat to own. Instead of being the highest bidder or shelling out big bucks for something, I found something a little off-the-wall. I also found a new comic store in Burlington, NC (the town where I grew up) over the holidays. I told them that I was a big Hulk fan, and they showed me this little ditty (it's an Aurora model from 1974). I scooped it up for myself (along w/ a Hulk Hero-Clix, a Batman Hero-Clix for my wife, and a Thing action figure, still in the box, from 1992) for myself for Christmas.
  11. Kudos to hesdeadjim for the German FF issues w/ the Thing/Hulk covers. Gracias!
  12. nanoc, sweet print you have. Anyone else who has original art or sketches, please post them. Great stuff that people have posted so far.
  13. Great-looking books, burntboy. I own a FF #1 thanks to a fellow board member, but it's nowhere near as nice as yours. Gorgeous copy!
  14. Incredible run of MM, D27K. Absolutely incredible.
