  1. Hello.

I really appreciate this thread. I love seeing great collections and creative ways of displaying them. Kindly allow me to share my own, while it is not impressive as the ones featured here, I am quite happy with them. Hopefully, I can expand on this with the help of fellow boardies. ;)

Here's a view of my Entertainment Room set-up (or we can call it the obligatory mancave).

I tried to combine all aspects of my collection in that picture - Sandman, Big 7 (Big 3 in this case), Minimates, and Comics. My Einstein and Historical 1/6th Scale Figure collection will be slightly focused on later.

Here's a closer look on the DC side.

The comics rotate from time to time.

    Here's the Marvel section.

Guess what's the recurring theme for the DC comics versus the Marvel comics background.

Sandman section! Best comic of all-time! I do have some other Sandman statues and figures but they won't fit in the display area.

Recreating The Last Supper with Buddy Christ at the center, Dexter as the traitor Judas, Einstein as Peter and Kahlo as the effeminate John. The rest of the apostle-historical persons association are random.

I have recreated the X-Men 1 cover in all affordable scales (Marvel Legends, Marvel Universe, Superhero Squad, Heroclix, Squinkies, etc). But my favorite is Minimates.

Chucky guards my collection. Just for the heck of it, I sometimes remove the toy from the box and leave the box opened to freak out guests.

    Remember, remember...

Best comic performance of all-time, best Joker story of all-time! It's a Hot Toys Heath Ledger as the Joker.

My coup de grace - Albert Einstein. My grail would be an authentic signature from the man himself. Right now, I'm also looking for a CGC SS of TMP 1 with an Einstein sketch (help please). That Relativity book is a special reprint by the Folio Society. I have other Einstein books and figs, I'll share them one of these days.

Thanks for looking at my humble collection guys. ;)

    very nice displays

  2. At this point, I'm not sure where this Snyder-Goyer "wee, let's throw a dart and see whose name we hit" adventure is taking us. But it feels like repeat shock value to buck the traditional casting expectation.

I'm wondering if Tilda Swinton next as Commissioner Yindel because of her appearance in The Dark Knight Returns. This way, they blend in multiple stories to make something so "their own", nobody can pick up on where-when-why this is.

We shall see where they are taking us come 2016.

I think as fans of the source material, we're all guilty of casting these movies the same way Wizard magazine used to do it back in the early 90's. Bryan Cranston seemed to be the consensus pick, probably because he just got done playing a bald, ruthless character. But if Breaking Bad never existed, would people be clamoring for the dad from Malcolm in the Middle to get the role? In this era of top notch make up and special effects, looking like the comic character isn't that important anymore.

I'm more concerned with the -script being good, because even the best actors out there can polish a turd only so much. Truth be told, I wish Hollywood would cast relative unknowns in these roles, so the Holden Caulfield in me wouldn't get hung up on the fact that Van Wilder is supposed to be Hal Jordan. :frustrated:

    truth

i think people forget that shaving your head is a pretty easy look to accomplish

they obviously impressed in their auditions

  3. Recently moved my workplace out to a garage extention freeing up the basement for my oldest daughter to claim. Moved my comic closet into another room to accommodate. Here's a vid - my personal collection looked cool spread out on the carpet. I put some of the keys on top to make it more impressive natch

    Sorry for the blurriness

    Nice set of books

    +1

  4. Hey, I did miss this though.

In looking up some of the hidden Easter Eggs in Man of Steel, did anyone catch this?

Christopher Meloni’s character is introduced to us as Colonel Hardy, but as the conflict between Zod’s loyalists and Kal-El begins, we’re reacquainted to the Colonel as his callsign, Guardian. For those not in the know, The Guardian is one of DC Comics’ oldest heroes, hearkening all the way back to the early 40s. In the comics, Guardian was a powerless police officer turned vigilante, and he even played a role in helping Superman during his mid-90s battle with Doomsday.

    Guardian-1-300x184.jpg

totally missed that one, might watch the film again tonight

  5. i dont think a Lantern will be in it, i think they'll stick to the Trinity for this film, wouldn't be surprised if they announced a Green Lantern film though

There could easily be a Lantern alter ego in it though, or some passing reference to set up future movies.

maybe have them without the powers for now

Yeah, exactly. Although John Stewart isn't much of a public figure, right?

re-cast Hal? surely they can work Ferris into it?

Christina Wren played Ferris in Man of Steel. How that leads to Hal Jordan appearing remains to be seen in future movies.

she was Carrie Farris, not Carol Ferris

  8. With John Carter, its influence didn't come from the comic books, but rather from the original source material.

It is based on A Princess of Mars, the first book in the Barsoom series of novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs.

This is a very slippery slope as it would be very difficult to prove the movie was not based more on the later comics adaptations with the changes as it is very loosely adapted from the book.

Unfortunately this would also lead to not including series like Buffy, Angel, the Phantom, and others due to the comic being adapted directly from a TV series/book and not the other way around. Are comics being the original source material a hard rule?

The list might be easier to maintain and add to if it was broken down by year, here is a website that includes comic book movies/series/serials by year with distributor.

    CLICK ME

I understand completely where you are coming from. Conan is a good example where the movies came out while Marvel was publishing the comic books. But when I read the history of how the Conan movies came about, it appears Oliver Stone rejected the comic-based -script and went with his own. Then later, Milius tore apart Stone's version and kept only certain parts.

While on the other hand, Red Sonja was based on the Marvel Comics character which was influenced by Robert E. Howard's Red Sonya of Rogatino from the "The Shadow of the Vulture" short story.

But I can add John Carter, Tarzan and others that were a combination of novels, comic books and films if everyone wants that. No worries at all.

that'd be a different list of comics based on books/tv/film

  9. Oldboy 2003 too

    John Carter

Good catch on Oldboy (2003). I just read the summary, and how it was part of a trilogy though only Oldboy is listed as manga-based.

With John Carter, its influence didn't come from the comic books, but rather from the original source material.

It is based on A Princess of Mars, the first book in the Barsoom series of novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs.

That was my reason for not including it, though I really liked this movie.

haven't seen John Carter yet but have it ready to go, i hear good things despite the poor box office

its the sequel to Coach Carter?
