  1. Are people not allowed to just buy a book because of a character anymore? I wonder how books got hot before TV and movies. The creative team ( mainly the artist ). Ahh, the good old days (like last year)
  2. Did Silver Sable getting a solo book in 1992 mean anything? Did Deathlok getting a solo book in 1991 AND 1999 mean anything? Did Cable getting a solo book in 1993 mean anything? Did Spiderwoman getting a solo book in 2000 mean anything? Did Lobo having endless minis throughout the 90's mean anything? We are talking about the value and demand of the first appearance, not whether the character was published or not. Lots and lots of characters are published, whose first appearances aren't worth much. Deadpool was one of them, from the time the "heat" faded after his first mini, until about 2009. This is really silly. If you are a blip in 1993 and then forgotten you wouldn't have a ongoing monthly title come out 4 years later. That's not his point. His point is that there was enough baseline interest in the character that he got a solo title, but he wasn't red hot until a few years back. Certainly, in 1997, when the first solo series was launched, the rabid Deadpool buyers and Cosplayers did not exist yet. And not even that, a solo title means only that Marvel thought he had a chance. It doesn't indicate any baseline level of interest whatsoever (See, Maverick, supra).

  4. Just out of curiosity, WHY is it doing so well? It's not the 1st appearance of the current Killer Frost at all. It's not her origin, it's not her backstory. It's nothing except a first appearance of a character that's not in any upcoming movies, television shows or even animation. It's like saying "Green Lantern is hot". Then I'd have to ask "which one?" Most likely for the same reason that MSH 18 went through the roof, even though none of the characters are the same as the movie Guardians (Yondu did appear, but that character had little in common with the original Yondu). People will go back to the "first first" and that book will spike, regardless of the retcons and changes that have been made to the character over time. At least, that is how it is playing out right now. I sort of get the confusion with the Guardians of the Galaxy simply because it's a 'group' and there's no direct comparison to some older versions of the Guardians. In that regard, it's not an entirely bad idea to grab the 1st "1st". But it should be markedly simpler to establish the lineage, origin or appearance of a singular character. For instance the 1st appearance of Star Lord. If folks wanted to find that, it'd be fairly easy. To find the current lineup of the Guardians as found on-screen, you'd have to get more recent of course. Showcase 22 will always be a grail, but if there's a 'new onscreen GL' that isn't Hal....I wouldn't expect it to spike unusually. I'd expect the 1st appearance of whatever incarnation of that 'new onscreen GL' to pop a bit. Same deal with this issue: there's like a bazillion Killer Frosts. The one slated for the small screen has no relationship whatsoever to the prior Frosts. Even in the multiple animated series and animated movies: more than 1 Killer Frost has been portrayed. DC is obviously retconing or reconing this character because 'she' is utterly confusing and it'd be much simpler to have the new one be the definitive one. Up until the Forever Evil storyline she didn't even have a proper origin story. That is all logical and well-thought out. I'm not sure the market responds to either of those concepts.
  5. One of the only real problems with buying OO collections instead of hitting the LCS back issues is that OO collections tend to only have one copy of every issue. Sometimes two, but more often not. But then, the books are for the most part unread, as the obsessiveness of buying every title left little time for the collector to actually read the books.
  6. Just out of curiosity, would you guarantee that numerical grade if someone bought it and sent it straight into CGC without a press? Best question of the thread. Like I said I will never mention it ever again. I just wanna see the answer without "the too many variables" response. Jim Such a troll - go spend some time on your website, where it's really needed.
  7. Well no, it didn't really, because as RMA says it didn't become relevant until much later.
  8. Just out of curiosity, would you guarantee that numerical grade if someone bought it and sent it straight into CGC without a press? I guarantee the grade of every book I sell. I think I've had two returns in over 12 years and 10,000 sales. And those were many years ago. And even you know there are still many variables in this statement, "if someone bought it and sent it straight into CGC without a press?"
  9. You would say that. You have a vested interest in keeping the party going. As for it not being real money, I'm not so sure. I've had discussions with several board members who are investing in comics, not in 401Ks, the stock market, etc. If they are staking their future retirement on comics, then for those people, that is real money. If they are staking their future retirement on investing in Copper Age comic books, then they are indeed greater fools than you or I.
  10. Of course, people would actually have to buy your books to neg you, but that'll never happen . . .
  11. This one's nicer . . . Good grief...I have so had enough of wasting my breath on this topic. If you choose to make money selling this way, that's your choice, but I really have no idea how you sleep at night. A line of dirt all the way down the cover, near the spine. A significant impact crease at the bottom of the spine (very visible from the back) and a smaller one up top. Last time I mention it, cuz you'll obviously keep doing what you do, but man that is just brutal. Jim Besides divad's grading (which in these grades you really can’t tell unless you can have the book in hand) that is clearly not a big impact crease, and the "line of dirt" is not dirt bur rather some kind of ink smudge, production related, and very common with these books. I agree divad is not the king of pleasantville, but let’s be objective: that one can be a NM as well as a NM+ or a NM/MT – you just can’t tell from a scan that size. Couldn't have said it better myself, and I'm sure others think the same. Jim clearly has his bias, and nothing better to do (I might add.)
  12. Interesting analysis, but you're acting as though this is real money . . . . it's not - it's disposable income. Period. Don't over-intellectualize it.
  13. You sell labels jim, not books, and you can't even see the books in your listings - get a life. You wouldn't know a HG book from a hole in the ground.
  14. I'm considering putting together a Deadpool package for eBay. NM 98, X-Force 1 (Deadpool card), 2 & 11, and Circle Chase 1. I've got multiples of all so it might be interesting. You'd do better to break them up. Seriously. I never understood the "package" deal.
  15. This one's nicer . . . Not as nice as a CGC 9.9 SS. Liefeld..... Actually, it might be.
  16. This one's nicer . . . Yours doesn't have a barcode. Also your advertising really gets old after awhile. After we see it page after page..... There is another section for it. And so does your negativity. We're here to have fun. You didn't even reply to my post supporting your earlier post about Firestorm. Sheesh.
  17. This one's nicer . . . Yours doesn't have a barcode. True-dat, but Jaydog and RMA will tell you that doesn't matter a hoot.
  18. Agreed. All of the first series Firestorm (1-5) are doing well. Any chance the 2nd series will see some action? Also, Sandman 4 continues to heat up: Other recent sales.
  19. Oddly, Rob Liefeld tweeted that Domino's first appearance was New Mutants #98. Wikipedia says #11. Does Rob know that copycat was playing Domino in NM 98? Was that -script rewritten? How does someone who has never been seen before get impersonated first? Good point! Retcon, not the first time it's been done. What if they did this with Deadpool ? X-force #2 would be the new 1st appearance. I have no idea what book it is, but the 1st book where he breaks the 4th wall would be a nice Deadpool "key" if i was a huge fan of his. IMO that's what really made him famous. You mean the proscenium? Yep, that would be a good one.
