  1. It is now . . . Picked up a sweet MOS #17 (Newsstand) in the wild today . . .
  2. Without looking them up, aren't the two on the flanks by Russ Heath?
  3. Are you linking to nominator's post? I did some links to profiles for the PL'ers a while ago - it may help you locate some last posts if they came here to argue - if you're wading through the PL it's probably easiest to divide them up by date. If anyone volunteers to help. Also if you're planning to link to when Divad was running this show he was judge, jury & executioner on more than a few...not much debate. If it quacks like a duck, chances are it's a duck . . .
  4. Never saw that insert before - little Sally Field action going on there?
  5. I do not buy books at inflated prices, regardless of slabishness
  6. Good gollybeejeezuz! We're goin' to need Noah for this one . . . Soon to be followed by . . . Soon to be followed by...
  7. I've been doing the same thing, picking up cheap third prints of #1 whenever I can. I was able to get a nice NM copy signed by Eastman and Laird last month that actually came from the personal collection of Steve Lavigne. His wife even asked me if I wanted him to sign it before it was shipped.
  8. Those beautiful comics with that ugly hat! j/k +1 Not kidding Go Chargers. Chargers disappointed me. Being a lifelong Patriot fan, I get nervous around this time. I just hope manning folds, as he usually does, when Brady is on the other side. I'm a Pats fan too, we should go see a Pats game together and we can talk comics in between plays Brady is 7-0 against a Del Rio defense FYI. I have a bad feeling about this game, unless Blount gets it going. At least it's not f'ing Eli he's up against. No one really cares about the first game . . . It doesn't matter who comes in second at the end. You must be referring to the Negligible Football Conference? And you, the Affectatious Football Conference?

  10. Of course they're scarce, particularly in HG. I think that's undisputed. That's because no collector gave a ratz azz about later printings at the time. I seriously don't think the prices on later prints will hold up for any length of time. In 9.8? Of course. But 9.8s don't fall off of trees (unless it's BA 12 . . . )
  11. TMNT Print Run Data TMNT #1 (first printing) - 3,000 TMNT #1 (second printing) - 6,000 TMNT #1 (third printing) - 35,000 In the grand scheme of comic prints, they are all low... truedat, truedat.
  12. How many do you own? I saw a thread the other day where someone had like 20 copies of assorted printings... I turn them over quite quickly, but I currently have a #2 2nd print, and a #3 1st print, about 12 1st prints from 5-10, and probably 20 or so from #11 on.
  13. I think there are two parallel discussions in this. For most collectors, I think the interest in 2nd prints as variants often relates to identifiably different features in later editions - like the "Classic" tags on the So Much Fun editions, Marvel's gold ink 2nd prints, and DC's Roman numerals. These distinctions create "variants" that are easily recognized by many collectors, and this awareness allows demand to build in a way that - when combined with relative scarcity - can drive price increases into a feedback loop, where each price increase prompts more collectors to seek these books out. I think this stands in contrast to the many Batman reprints (for example), where the key differentiating factor is relatively obscure - like the numbers or symbols in the UPC codes, or the copyright dates of internal advertisements. These later prints - while still scarcer variants - lack the widespread "identifiability" that will touch off the collectible feedback loop. There are exceptions, of course - the McFarlane cover of Batman #423 seems to drive some additional attention for the variants of that issue, and there are whole threads here (and elsewhere) trying to sort out the nuances of early TMNT printings. By and large, my sense is that this holds true... Just my two cents... I'm interested in other perspectives on this, though... Great post! (thumbs u Btw, I spent the afternoon Mylaring Copper Bats (350-450), with an eye out for 2nd prints. I was pleased to find none.
  14. All kidding aside, Turtles are hot. They always have been. They always will be. I buy them at every opportunity I get. Demand exceeds supply, certainly for #1 through 10, regardless of printing.
  15. How about this one? What?! What did you say about What?! $325 for a grubby 3rd print? That's what! Who you callin' grubby?
  16. Wow - seriously? I guess I'm just a traditionalist. Whatever costume Hank Pym put on, he was always Antman to me.
  17. Suddenly, they don't look so collectible . . . There's a ton of 'em.
