  1. Good golly bejeezus! Now I have to go through those 17 DC CA long boxes AGAIN!
  2. This is not necessarily true. I have had several MJI books fall into my lap in HG. Many of them were in collections with non-MJI copies of the same issue. My observation has been that the MJI copies are often higher grade than their non-MJI counterparts. Hard-stock CFs prevent spine bends.
  3. Yes, and a really cool monotint by Neal Adams! (thumbs u
  4. Well, based on current slabbed sales, I still left quite a bit on the table. Congrats. No tomfoolery.. just something that defies logic. UnteL. Thanks, but it's a big world out there: Harley
  5. As I packed it last night, I (as always) had seller's remorse. On closer inspection, the book has a serious chance at a 9.9 - not a single flaw. It's not a 9.9, It's a 9.8. might even be a 9.6 with the way CGC has been latley, getting back surefire 9.8's as a 9.6...can't find a single thing wrong! CGC says 9.6, starting to think CGC is trying to make sure they don't hand out to many 9.8's. Well, I put as much faith in my grading (if not more) as I do in CGC's
  6. I feel dirty all over (again) . . . I really think that Probies and HOSers should be banned from participating, but hey, that's just a crazy idyllic streak in me . . .

  8. I don't get it, why did it sell for that much? Is it a fluke?? I got 2 copies as good looking as that, if not sharper corners. Thouht Raw NM's first prints sold for like 10-20 bucks? If you've got two copies that look that good, young man, I suggest getting them slabbed . . .

  10. Listen, if it was produced and published by Marvel's MAGAZINE department, distributed through traditional MAGAZINE channels, and sold through MAGAZINE shops and retailers, then it's a MAGAZINE, no matter what's inside. That was the entire purpose of the Marvel Magazine line - to infiltrate traditional MAGAZINE distribution and retail channels to get the higher-end buyers and advertising. Uh, what about Man-Thing's 1st App in Savage Tales #1? 1st appearance, yes. 1st comic book appearance, no. That's not what the market thinks though. Admittedly, every story in Savage Tales #1 is a triumph in its own right, but it's still billed as the 1st app of Man-Thing (regardless of what you and Vince think) CGC differentiates between the 1st appearance and the 1st comic book appearance apparently. Look at the label of an IH 272 for an example. I would suspect an Adventure into Fear 10 could be labelled as the 1st comic book appearance for Man-Thing if someone asked. This isn't my opinion, but it does seem to be how CGC and several people think. Honestly, my opinion is it is a tactic to get more money from collectors. Look at Hellboy. There are 3 books a collector would need to track down to get all the 1st appearances. If you've been following this thread, I'm firmly in the other camp. Nothing personal but you "suspect" incorrectly, and no, CGC doesn't tailor its notes to the requestor.

  13. That would be false And to back that up: Doomsday Chronology Superman: The Man of Steel #17 (November 1992): [41] "Here Be Monsters" Superman Vol. 2 #73 (November 1992): [42] "Time Ryders" Adventures of Superman #496 (November 1992): [43] "Truth and Consequences" Action Comics #683 (November 1992): [44] "The Trail of the Jackal" Superman: The Man of Steel #18 (December 1992): [45] "Doomsday! 14. (thumbs u It's lively discussion, not an argument. Kudos to all.
  15. Actually that's not what it's proven at all. What all of the foregoing simply confirms is that #17 was the issue to appreciate (in value) early on. With only a minimum of thoughtful analysis, those that know and care have consequently determined that was done rather hastily, and in error.
  16. Seriously, what remains undisputed is one, that there are huge number of both issues, and neither of them are difficult to locate, and two, the #17 is a cameo, and #18 is a full first appearance.
  17. Definitely "isn't much of a first appearance" . . .
  18. This isn't true and it especially isn't true of issue 17. Perhaps you could provide some persuasive evidence of your statement?
  19. Did the market suddenly decide they prefer that to #18? Or are the market buyers too dumb to know the difference. Apparently so. I have a few 18's and actually pulled a few 17's the other day out of my LCS's dollar bins. Am I missing something? From day one MoS #17 has always been the more valuable book due to its much lower print run. Nothing has really changed. You can check the recent debates on the issue: http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=6818071#Post6818071 Yes. We all participated in that debate. Perhaps you should take a moment and actually read the the thread.
  20. it reeks of Hulk 180/181 ...here we go ...again Except that it's a much stronger case for Hulk 180 . . .
