  1. To me, this could be the test case alot of people have been looking for through the years.

If all you are trying to do is survive a summary judgment motion on the "CGC Guarantee" limitations (actual damages and arbitration among other things), then this might be the "known or should have known" angle that gets you to the discovery phase.

You potentially have a class, which would get rid of the venue issue.

    Barristers, thoughts?

Who are you to decide how being on or off a list on a message board impacts Chip's mental health?

As a person who suffers from depression, it's not as easy as you think to not allow things to bother you. Trust me, based on 40+ years of experience, it's not like you can turn things off and on like a light switch. I have gone around and around with various counselors regarding how I need to change how I react to things. It always revolves around how I need to change my behavior, and it's never about the person who's causing the problem changing his/her behavior.

We all have our own idiosyncrasies, and something that bothers me might not bother you at all, and vice versa. I don't know how many times someone has said to me, "Why are you making such a big deal about this?" Here's why - because it IS a big deal to me, and no one has the right to tell me how I should feel about something.

Mental health is a terribly misunderstood problem in this country. I sincerely hope you have not had to deal with your own mental health issues, but even if you have, I don't think it's appropriate for you to comment in any way regarding another person's mental health issues.

I wasn't even a board member when all this brouhaha with this Chip occurred. But if taking him off this "list" helps him feel better about himself, then I think taking him off this "list" is a good idea. As it is clear that this really bothers you, you can become the "Chip is not allowed to sell on this board" sheriff.

As you can tell, it bothers me greatly when people make light of other people's mental health issues. And no, I have NO intention of changing how I react to this.

😂 I am not sure anyone cares how you react to this, let alone spend any amount of time trying to change how you react to this. Get over yourself.

  3. I had my run in with these clowns about 30 days ago.  I simple issue that was incredibly easy to solve, but it just happened to involve around $30,000.00 worth of books that by every account of anyone that would talk to me, were just laying around, out of their slabs, and absolutely no one was in a hurry to resolve a simple issue related to :checks notes: where the books go next in their process.  As in, they called me and asked what they are supposed to do with the books I sent, and when I suggested they check the order form that came with the books, they couldn't identify the order number, so I gave it to them over the phone.

One CGC employee ended up helping me, and the issue was resolved.

However, at some point CGC is going to find themselves on the other end of a civil suit that no doubt they have insurance for, but the discovery phase of such an action could end up not being very kind to them, and provide alot of answers CGC absolutely does not want to talk about, ever.

Unfortunately, many folks were either never taught or never learned how to save money. Perhaps many of them purchase comic books when they can't afford to, possibly including new releases; not even relatively expensive variants, but "run of the mill" comic books. Likely, many purchase them on credit and end up paying much more for a new release comic books that may be "worthless" in a week. Of course, folks can spend their money on comic books as they wish.

Love it that you feel that you need to mention that everybody has your permission to buy what they want.

  5. Put @Buzzettain charge of it. He will chase all the money you need; anything he can do to make it so his daily nightmare of actually having to be in a world with people that either don’t have homes or have nothing in particular to do and like to hang out all day are removed from his eyesight and city for that matter.

But seriously, I serve on a state-wide food bank board and have for 15 years or so, and we have sunk a ton of time and research on how to raise money. Sometimes the best thing to do is look at it from another perspective. You were talking about a single event in which you sell tickets, get sponsorships, etc. for a night of what sounds like really good music. We have a couple big events spread out through the year, but for the past seven or eight years, we have been doing direct, mailing marketing, and you will mess yourself when you realize how much more money you can raise on a year-round basis, if people will just sign up to give 10, 25, or $50 a month, it’s super easy to hook up to a bank account, Venmo, PayPal, etc., the donor has the option to pick up the fees that go along with it, so, for example, if you make a $25 donation and set it up to be paid the same day every month, the actual charge to your account is $26.14  to cover the cost of the service. Not only does this fundraising outpace are couple tentpole events throughout the year, but it provides working capital and cash flow on a monthly basis instead of one big hit one time a year. The sell  is easy, make it real for people: just skip Starbucks three times a month and you’re already in the $20-$25 a month range. Pack your lunch one day a month for work and there’s a $10 a month donation, stuff like that.

Thank you for the message, I didnt see it quick enough.  I wish I could have got my hands on a foil; the one available on ebay just went off for $380.  The regular cover "E" business card edition (1:10 ratio) is flying off ebay right now.  The publisher is doing different "Pierce & Pierce" business card covers for remaining 4 issues in the 5-issue mini-series.  Paul Allen is issue #2, David Van Patten is issue #3 so far!

Riiiiiight… I pulled into Penn a little while ago and am writing this from the subway.  I already stepped over one body sprawled out across the steps.  Already saw someone shoved for not moving quick enough once they stepped off the train.  Let’s see what the afternoon brings.
Now granted it’s always been when you travel.  But a lot of this continues to bleed its way into the mid afternoon.

BTW Believe me, I’m not a scared of your own shadow guy.  But, cool that you don’t travel around these parts in the morning or evening or you have blinders on.

I was in your big bad dangerous city this weekend.  Came by train, so in fact we were at Penn Station.  And you'll be happy to know we made it out alive, and shockingly to you, we were not harassed, threatened, or even looked at the wrong way.  And we didn't have to step over any bodies like you have to everyday.  I was with my kid and wife, and all of us were dragging rolling suitcases, so we absolutely had a badge on us that we were tourists, arriving and leaving the station and then walking the 10 blocks to and from our hotel.   I think you have a good thing going with the Charles Bronson Death Wish take on things though.

So thoughts and prayers my man, I hope you make it to the Con ALIVE!!!! :banana::banana:

I stand by everything I have said and report what I have seen.  If people are scared by that, then (shrug).  I am not scared by it as I still continue to commute through and work within the city but I am definitely aware of it so I am alert and maintain my own personal safety.   However, the people who are coming in from out of town should be aware of it all (especially the insane scooter issue that is presently going on.)

    EDIT: I disagree...

    Uber > Taxi > Subway > Bus...

You could not pay me enough to get on a city bus.  I would rather walk fifty blocks.

Or just use common sense, which applies to anywhere, everywhere. But The Scared of Your Own Shadow Crowd appreciates these PSAs 🙂

ASM #238 isn't a modern and has been a key for a very long time.  I'm talking about the hordes of common moderns that were being submitted by the hundreds to CGC and clogging up the grading works in recent years.  Many that previously sold for $100+ now seem to sell for less than $40... not such a viable business anymore.

On a long enough timeline, was it ever going to be?

People tell me that I overexplain, so I try posting a short meme. People don't understand the short meme, so I overexplain.

I have a feeling the same people look at a STOP sign waiting for it to switch to GO, or they just yell, "FOR HOW LONG?" at the sign.

Yeah my tween daughter that likes Taylor Swift and rainbows and colored markers that smell like pumpkins; she use short memes to communicate too.  Great approach to getting your message across.

Good. Let the silly people spend silly money on their 9.8's, that leaves more sanely priced 9.2 - 9.6 books for the rest of us.

Pages are not White, from what I've seen most here would have no interest in crappy OW/W. To some (not me) WP's take precedence over seemingly all else.  Which makes perfect sense in slabbed book where the difference between OW/W and W is highly apparent  and at least in a few cases can bump up if the book is sent for a sig then re-graded. @Jordysnordy knows!

The thirst is completely a real thing.

  12. Certainly the lawyers won't let CGC guarantee the same grade of a book that is sent in to be reholdered, I get that.

Does anyone have any insight into sending in slabbed Pedigree books for the colored Pedigree label in terms of good times, bad times, or just plain old tales of the weird?

I have some pedigree books I would like to have the newer label, but I'm not willing to sacrifice the grades. Probably just nerves, but I sure would appreciate anyone having any experience with this.

Not sure I understand the personal attack.

Lou collects differently than I do. But I've read most of what he's written in this thread and in others.

He's never come off like he lacks perspective and I've appreciated his perspective on the market and collecting in general.

    It seems unnecessary.

I pointed out that a different perspective than one's own might be worth having a look at from time to time.  Your sensitivity issues related to what I wrote are noted however. :foryou:

This is an honest request for someone to explain DD #131 to me.

    Here's tonight's result for a nice 9.8 WP copy:

    image.thumb.png.0b879a65a4bf43c092985a72db510951.png

A "Mark Jewelers insert" copy sold for even more on ComicConnect last week, skewing GoCollect's algorithm a bit (it shows FMV at $10,000, likely as a result).

    image.thumb.png.a4d287cafdfc3e5bf95696d0e64c459c.png

So let's toss out the higher number since the book in question is a sort-of variant, and stick with $7,000+ as the current market for a 9.8 WP copy of the book.

I have a 9.6 WP copy that I bought for a little over $1,100 in April 2021, during the height of the market ... GoCollect shows recent sales in the $800-$1,500 range (that's actually a broad range) but let's say $1,100 is about right for a 9.6.  I might expect a 9.8 to be about double, maybe as much as $2,500+, but I saw a 9.8 WP copy with less than perfect centering go for over $4,500 on ComicLink in March, and I believe Dale Roberts sold a nicer 9.8 for $5,000+ soon after that.  Now we have this result at over $7,250.

So the market is apparently saying that a 9.8 is worth more than 6 times a 9.6?  I just don't get it.  There are 110 9.8 copies in the census, so it's not exactly rare, and while Bullseye is a good character he's not exactly A-list and he's already been used in the old Ben Affleck movie.  I'm really struggling to understand why this book is going for such high prices, which is why I've stayed on the sidelines and refused to upgrade my 9.6.

Basically I'm saying that if it were possible to "short" a comic, I'd be looking hard at this one.  I just cannot justify the going rate on this book and I can't see myself ever paying more than $3,000 max for a 9.8.

That is, unless someone can make a convincing case that I should.  What am I missing here?

Look closely at what you wrote:

    ‘’I have”

    ”I might expect”

    ”I saw”

    ”I believe”

    ”I just don’t get it”

    ”I’m really struggling to understand”

    ”Basically I’m saying”

”I just cannot justify the going rate”

”I can’t see myself ever paying more”

and finally: “What am I missing here?”

Seems like what you are missing are perspectives other than the one you completely, unconditionally, 100% rely upon: your own.
