  1. Hit a LCS today, and these guys put a bunch of stock out since I was in there about a year ago, and basically doubled their back issue offerings.

Found a ton of Dark Horse Star Wars stuff, maybe 1000 books. My problem is I don't have a clue to start with it in terms of whats the good stuff and what to pass on.  All of it is in NM/NM+ shape, all of it $3 a pop, and all of it overwhelming frankly.  No Star Wars Tales (which I know about and picked up long ago), but pretty much everything else, from say Dark Empire (to mark a start year) to 2014 or so, so like 25 years worth of stuff.

Is there a "cheat sheet" type article or anything is working off of to keep up with whats worth buying and what is not?

Any help is appreciated, thank you.

    These ones are always frustrating.

It pushes the item beyond the reach of the humble collector, and those that purchased high doggedly hold on, thinking to recoup their expenditure. This, of course, rarely happens.

I imagine there are a lot of frustrated types out there who were burnt on Iron Man 55, Ms. Marvel #1 etc.

Common sense isn't so common, as we know. 😉

Its always good to hear from the “humble collector*” that had chance after chance after chance to buy this a grand pre-pandemic.

The comic scene is wild right now…I am a crypto guy, new to this world. Thinking of diversifying into CGC comics but do you guys see the market cooling down anytime soon? Books like Punisher limited 1 and his first appearance in Spider-Man have gone insane. Not to mention ghost rider, hulk 181 and others.

Personally I have been sitting on the sidelines too long watching the prices go up. In my opinion I think things could get even crazier especially if eBay integrates comics into their collections feature. It would be really nice if we had tools like the ones offered on GoCollect baked right into eBay. These kind of things are inevitable and will only serve to help push this space forward.

Everyone say hello to their wet dream come true please. :highfive:

To be fair, the movie was based on the novels by William F. Nolan, which were basically thin plots to string together a series of sex scenes. The movie may have been reflecting that a bit.

To be fair, there is no possible way that the movie can be viewed as anything other than the ultimate confluence of the worst of Hollywood and the worst of the excess of the 1970s.  Its basically Argo but a real movie.

  5. And a book based on a movie with HANDS DOWN the greatest totally gratuitous, no notion of being relevant to the scene or the plot, 100% a demand of the on-set producer and the people that had a skin in the game financially, on-screen nudity.

:gossip: Also HTF in HG. :gossip:

I’m not sure if this is a fluke or not but my eBay auctions for Elektra Assassin #3-8 CGC 9.8 just sold for over $1600.  This is much more than the $600 I was expecting.

Thats astounding and well done.  I always loved the books and the covers, and the fact that these books were squarebound made it easier to end up with 9.8s.

Thanks for dumping on my book.. jackwagon. :censored:  "Some people should be seen and not heard" is a real thing.

FWIW, those are not CBC's, they're extremely light non-color breaking, maybe 1/32".  The reason you're even able to see them is because I shot the picture with the light at nearly a 90 deg angle to the slab to minimize the glare.  Put the light in any other place and those lines are not visible.

Then apparently Magic is a real thing, because I don't think those CBCs disappear just because you take another picture that simply doesnt show what is very obvious in the first picture.

And go grab a nap before you reply, okay?

This books was raw in my collection for decades (but I don't think it's my original copy).  I subbed it to Voldy when they first opened and it was 9.8w.:acclaim:  A couple of years ago I sent it to CGC for a Crossover and it came back 9.6w.:tonofbricks:  Earlier this year I decided to CPR it.  There were a couple of spots that needed to be cleaned up but nothing that should have kept it out of 9.8.

Low and behold, I got an email saying they bumped it from Modern to Express (and were hitting me for an additional $86).  Honestly, I don't mind news like that.

Four color breaking areas on the spine, from SEs head to the shoulder, and that is just what I can make out from the picture...and this is what is passing for a 9.8? Buy the book, not the grade is a real thing.

I think a lot of that changes with the MCU horror phase. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not one of these folks where the only way a comic can be valuable if there is a movie about it, but  A lot of the magazine stuff could come into play with Morbius, blade, etc.

And frankly, given the condition that most of these magazines are in, there’s a “thrill of the hunt” aspect to finding some of these important 70s magazines in good shape.  Marvel Preview #3 (1975), Obviously an early Blade appearance, but also features the first appearance of Jamal Afari, the vampire that trained Blade.  Not developed in the Tomb of Dracula series, or the Snipes movies.

If the new Blade movies at any point develop how Blade was raised and trained, and include Jamal, this is the book.  Last I checked: 1 9.8, 9 9.6s. I just think these magazines are going to be on the radar’s of a lot more folks in the next 18 months or so, but they are already so hard to find in high grade, it might not be worth the effort at that point.

9.4 went for $900+ on CLink 3 night ago.  EDIT: update on census:  1 9.8 and 10 9.6s instead of 9.

If you are buying the grade always ask for pics. Never assume the 9.8 is your definition of a 9.8 or whatever. I’ve seen books graded 6.0 even and I look and feel that they are more 4.5-5.0 by my standards. I always ask for more pictures and never assume all grades are equal. Many are but you also have to account for every 10000 9.8 books out there, surely a handful are wrongly graded

Try to have a look at what you are buying first before you buy it, got it. 😂

You're right.  It's a little silly.  But, and I hesitate to type this, it is somewhat of the principle of the thing.  Dealers built CGC by submitting, advocating, buying and selling.  Just ignore that for a second.  The question is, why start charging?  Why $200?  Why not $1000?  $200/dealer account isn't going to raise any kind of significant money for CGC, as least not on the comic side.  No idea about coins, cards, etc.  So why do it?

Dealers have expectations of CGC that already aren't being met.  Now, they're not just supporters, CGC has made them another level of customers.

Why do it?  1 answer.  It gets a dealer used to paying "something" for the privilege of being a dealer.  Next year or the year after, when it's time to renew that dealer fee, who knows what the prices will be.  And oh, by the way, read that dealer agreement again.

Anything disparaging CGC is grounds to be terminated as a dealer.

Wow. All the way to page 4 until “it’s the principle of the matter” gets brought into the mix.

    Shame. Shame on you all.
