  1. If there's a better run of covers from that time period, I'll eat my hat.
  2. A little tight in terms of space, but a lot more books than WW, and everyone was in pretty good spirits. Found a Thor 165 @5.0 WP and a Hulk Annual 1 @4.5 OWW. Didn't break the bank.
  3. Hope to see some board members there tomorrow, although I don't particularly know anyone. Looking forward to it, thanks in large part to the lack of vintage books available at the STL WW con, which is epic to say the least.
  4. Film music, whether it be a traditional original score or rehashed popular music (like The Immigrant Song in Ragnarok), is used to create a hook between the viewer and the moving images. To think that music used in a movie or even just a trailer ISN'T a draw for a cross section of the public-ranging from enthusiasts to passers by-is short sighted. Film score and orchestral enthusiasts definitely go out of their way to see movies scored by composers like Alexandre Desplat.
  5. 6.0 is probably a fair guess. Might be a 6.5.
  6. I left for about 16 months after being a fairly regular poster and GSB sales thread seller on the old site. Just came back a couple of weeks ago (my post count reset to 0 for some reason, but maybe that happens after going away for a while?). Anyhow, while I'm happy to be visiting the boards again, the place is pretty quiet. Not a dying mall Sears kind of silent, but pretty danged quiet. How or why that has happened is anybody's guess, I suppose.
  7. I just don't pay the outrageously priced stuff any mind. The seller sets the price, ALTHOUGH, I'm surprised that MCS doesn't put a "cap" of sorts on consignment offerings. Like maybe 2X FMV. In the end it's their business model; they seem to survive in the face of some of the asking prices being embarrassingly high, and it seems to be working. Bully for MCS. I'll take their grading any time. Every book I've bought raw from them has come back higher than they graded the book. I bought a handful of pre-110 Strange Tales between from them, all of which they had graded at 4.5, and had priced appropriately. All books came back 6.0-6.5.
  8. Textbook case of a "book that can benefit from a press". 7.0 as it stands, but I think the ceiling for the book could be 8.0-8.5 with a press.
  9. Raw sub crease copies with strong spines and white pages=best bang for the buck in the hobby. It's gotten to the point that books fitting that profile are all that I buy, with very few exceptions.
  10. 4.5 as is. Enjoy it for what it is. Good looking book, but I'm not sure body work gets you much of a bump in this case.
  11. One of the best TTA covers. 6.0, even with the thin crease URC of the front cover. 6.5 wouldn't shock me if it were submitted. Nice book.
  12. Lots of possible answers-none of which are "wrong", but I think the last SA issue is 74. Cases can be made for 59,74,96,101,121,122. I'm sure there are others as well.
  13. I'm in the process of finishing all Marvel titles from 1/65-7/69 currently (@72% complete at the moment......reprints too!), along with the ASM run which is longer than the rest. When I get that nailed down, it's on to January-December of 1964. Then 1963, and so on.
  14. I recently started putting together 20-131 (all keys are accounted for, only about 15 books left). I prefer raw, but there are a few slabbed; 40,121,122,129. The slabbed books "bug" me. I'll probably crack them out.
  15. With the Fantastic Four, The Marvel Universe got its mind. With Spider-Man, the Marvel Universe got its heart. With the reintroduction of Cap, the Marvel Universe got its soul. FF 4 is a BETTER book in my opinion. Maybe the best early FF story. Not as common as Avengers 4. Probably a better investment. Having said all that, Avengers 4 will always be a more IMPORTANT book, at least in my eyes. Toss up.
  16. The "right" mid grade book can have as much eye appeal as an 8.0. Subscription crease copies with strong spines, sharp corners, and bone white pages come to mind. Price point to eye appeal ratio can't be beat.
  17. It's more alarming that it's a lukewarm cover of an early Torch-centric Strange Tales than it is alarming that Dr. Strange isn't featured on the cover. The issues preceding 110 offer some of the most beautiful covers of the Silver Age, particularly 101-105, and 107-109. At that point, who knew that Dr. Strange was anything more than short story filler in an anthology title.
  18. 6.5 with a shot at 7.0. Corners are a little soft, and too many ticks on the spine (which this cover in particular hides beautifully) to go higher. Nice book with a great cover!
  19. I think you'll pull a 4.5 or 5.0. Great looking book, many congrats.
  20. Maybe the villains are lame but besides this and 107, that's about it for classic covers. 101 and 103 are good. 115 decent but Spidey's floating head is a distraction. 116 is pretty cool. Other than that it's a word balloon party. Later on 1 or 2 Steranko covers are classic like 153 167 I think the early run of Strange Tales has some of the best covers of the era: 101-105, 107, 108, 114-116, 118, 120 are all pretty solid efforts, with a few (107 and 108 for sure) that can be considered classics.
  21. Richie is Ok in my book. He's up for making a deal and likes talking about comics. Bought my FF 1 from him. And yeah, his wife is really nice on the phone and in person.
