Congrats, Rob! I did the same thing to get my FF 1. Found a B-1 4.5 OWW that ended up in a purple label because of a 1/2" tear seal and a cover cleaning. Presents like crazy at a fraction of the price. That's a great presenting IH #1. Enjoy!

If the pin-up page is still in the book (and attached), and you'd like to have the book slabbed, by all means. If you think you would enjoy it more out of the slab, then don't. Good luck with it.

Both this and the 3 really have great, great color. maybe @5.5.
-
I'm going to guess @2.5 due to the cover and centerfold detachment and what appears to be rust migration. Pretty clean copy though. REALLY nice color for a lower grade book.

It's great to hear of someone else who loves te ASM 1 cover. Just something about it that I've always loved....maybe the way the title is kind of hung on the cover at an angle....I don't know. I hear (read) a lot of people run the cover down a little bit, but to me, it's aces. -
I'm biased since it's the grade range that I usually shoot for, but there's some really nice presenting books out there in the 4.5-5.5 range, and this book is a fine example of that. Congrats.

As much as I enjoy the Steranko Shield and the ongoing Dr Strange stories, the early Marvel SA vibe has always kind of stopped for me at 134. 101-134 is one of the most fun-and with the exception of a couple of early Dr Strange issues least expensive-runs to put together. Some of the best covers in the Silver Age as well, no doubt. -
Congrats on the book. Got to love that PQ, and the book looks like one heck of a 7.0.

FF 4 is one of the best comics ever produced. I actually like 6 better than 5 as well. -
Congrats Leroy! Heck of a score.......

The prices for most of the ASM 1's on eBay have become over the top. I think I saw a 5.0 with a BIN of 20K. There's a bunch of 3.0's at about 2X GPA as well. Then again, it's eBay, so whatever, I guess.

It's been 60 YEARS...show us your books from 1956!

Can you show us some interior scans please? 095 prefix serial numbers are tight books. I've got a 3.5 ASM 1 that is an 095, same story. That's a NICE looking 3.0. -

I've not noticed as much chipping on 3s as I have on the rest of the books in the run.......with 2,4,and 7 being the worst offenders, -
Bump or not, I'm digging the suit. And the eye shutters are cool. Bravo.

I quit. All of my belongings=a burning dumpster fire compared to this.

Your 2nd and 3rd paragraphs make total sense. I am utterly intrigued, though, by the first sentence of your first paragraph--"I think debt is fine IF you don't really 'need' it." So if you don't need to go into debt, you might as well because you have 90% of the funds on hand anyway? And then so debt is fine if someone "needs" it? I guess it boils down to how we define "fine" and what constitutes "need". :: Who needs debt? Many of us have a lot of it, no doubt, but it's an interesting paradigm, that sentence of yours. Kudos to all of you disciplined folk who pay off the ol' credit card after every cycle with no interest involved. You are among a super tiny minority. :hail: PayPal, Discover, American Express, Visa, Master Card, etc. wouldn't have a prayer in hell if this was even REMOTELY typical consumer behavior. "Make memories today. Pay in the future"--that was a recent slogan featured on the homepage of PayPal. It's deceptively simple. What if debt was the most aggressively marketed product today? Folks with great marketing skills have had great success with we consumers.... Veering quickly off the AF #15 Club thread focus, admittedly. Sorry for being unclear. My use of the term "need" was to differentiate the four letter word from NEED, as in people NEED jobs, food, or if they are bound and determined to make an ill-advised purchase that they have no business making, they would NEED financing to do so. My point was that if I've got $1K in my comic book spending account, I don't "need" to finance a $1000 purchase, but will do so if the terms/rewards are suitable to my needs. I'll pay it off in the span of a couple of months, but will have the $1K my account on hand to pay down immediately if need be. Those are just number for example. It's pretty rare that I spend that much on a book. Anyhow, that's just me. Long story short, I'll finance if it's worth it on some level, but never more than I can pay immediately if I needed to in a pinch. Just my way of doing things. Following my example has historically led to everything from unexpected pregnancies to jail time, so steer clear. Hope that clears my stance a little bit. Multiple? Ha!! Yeah, probably. I keed, I keed.

I think debt is fine IF you don't really "need" it. I use 0 interest credit quite a bit for large purchases, but probably have 90% of the funds on hand should I need to pay it off quickly. To each his own. Just don't get yourself underwater on anything and show some common sense. And I think liquidating and downsizing to generate the funds for a large purchase is a great idea. I went from thousands of books in my personal collection to less than a hundred a couple of years ago. Liberating and takes up very little space.

That's what I was thinking..........minimal resto (without CT) on a pretty nice copy for a fraction of the price of a blue label.

I've been looking for the right FF #1 for about a year, in the 3.5-4.0 area with OW or better pages. I'd had my eye on this one for a couple of weeks, since I'm fine with minimal work being done on key books (so long as it's ok work, and no trimming). Threw what I thought was a pretty low offer on the book, and was surprised when Richie (*gulp*) accepted. To his credit, sale went off without a hitch and the book arrived today. Had to move a couple of books (a 3.5 FF5 and one of my 4.0 ST110s) to make room for it, but I'm really happy with it.

Man, FF 4-6 are really gems to me. Those panels at the end of 6 where Kirby zooms in on Namor (the go. Go. GO! panels) are really cinematic, at least to my eye. And the colors on the cover of 6 are just awesome. Plus 6 is one of those books that almost always comes back with rock solid PQ, which is a plus.
