  1. Had the card game as a kid. I'm not sure that I played the game as much as I flipped through the cards for years and admired the artwork. Cool find.
  2. WOW. Terrific copy. Blazing colors and WP doesn't hurt either. Congrats!
  3. AoU did excellent business. But it also did underwhelming business based upon expectations. Reason being: not nearly as many repeat viewings out of fanboys.
  4. Wally that's terrible, I would not be very happy. A call would be made. I'm very sorry to see that you had these problems, and I would be pretty livid over it. I think The issues with the books, especially the SS 4, look to be from encapsulation rather than shipping, but you never know. I recently sent in a major SA Marvel key for reholdering. The reholdering went fine, but the packaging on the way back looked like my 16 year old niece (who's attention to detail is.....lacking) was in charge of the shipping department. Just POOR service, and not the first time. I'm now shipping submissions to a different Florida address......
  5. Maybe I'm just thinking of how many really bright white covers I've seen. I actually think DD 1 (and Avengers 4 for that matter), are books that tend to have lower page quality. For whatever reason, it just seems that way.
  6. Did somebody stop a bloody nose with the back cover?? That's about as good as a 4.0 gets in terms of presentation.
  7. I am suspicious. Looks like there might be some resto there to me. It's an absolute joke. Just read the description. Practically begging whoever buys the book to "be a real collector" and not slab the book, but if you must, use the fine folks at PGX, who by the way suck at detecting restoration. Not a single photo of the fanned edge of the book, probably because of a trim job that would be obvious. Spine looks touched.
  8. Good looking book!! Right in my 5.0 "sweet spot". Congrats!
  9. IF they could ever get the dynamic between team members in the FF right on screen, I think they could operate within the MCU as kind of "above the fray" scientists. Maybe them on one side of the street and the Avengers on the other. I don't know. But in reality, I don't think Disney's going to approach Fox on this one.
  10. That's quite a pessimistic view that doesn't necessarily match up with reality. Avengers 2 may not have been as successful as the 4th biggest domestic box office film in history, but it's still #8 on that list -- that's a downward slope? The film grossed almost $1.5 billion worldwide, and has the 3rd best revenue ratio of any of the studio's films -- I don't think Kevin Feige was crying himself to sleep with those kind of numbers. And by the same logic, Empire Strikes Back should have been heralded as the beginning of the end of the Star Wars franchise, since it did a staggering $100 million less than the original film did in each of their respective initial theatrical runs, a far bigger percentage drop that what you've seen from the two Avengers films. Or not. And comparing the FF disaster with Marvel Studios films is like comparing Rob Liefield to Jim Steranko -- they both might have been doing comics, but one of those was clearly not like the other -- and it was evident from the very beginning. The fact that FF bombed -- end of the summer release date, bad word of mouth surrounding the film almost from the beginning of production (remember the "The cast is being told not to read any of the source material" edict?), a lack of footage released or teasers leading up to the film (a sure sign that Fox knew they had a clunker on their hands), and all of it culminating in the director trashing his own film before it even released -- ALL of that makes FF's performance completely expected, and none of that should be used as a signal that the comic book film/TV "bubble" is bursting, no more than the performances of Catwoman 10 years ago, or GR: Spirits of Venegance only 3 years ago meant it either. So far as Ant-Man goes? Through 27 days, its domestic gross is only about $12 million behind the 1st Captain America's totals. It's % drops per week have been slightly better than the 1st Cap movie as well. It's more than likely that it's going to end up grossing in the $165-170 million range when it's done. Think about that for a moment. Ant-Man -- a character than almost no one in mainstream America knew a year and a half ago (compared to Captain America, who had FAR greater name recognition before his film was released into the theater, had been featured in cartoons, a crappy DVD movie, and even television) -- is going to gross more worldwide. That's likely since it's already nearly matched the 1st Cap movie's total worldwide gross in just three weeks of release, with major release countries of France (where Cap did over $10 million), Brazil (Cap with $20 million), Mexico ($20 million), Italy ($8.5 million), etc, still to come. The end result is that Marvel took a character with almost no name recognition and made a movie that, while not Jurassic World at the box office, was relatively well-received by critics and audiences, and will make real money for the studio, while building on their overall product and universe for the future. Not what I would call the beginning of the end. At least not yet. Well put. I don't see how Ant-Man is anything less than a decent success for the studio, considering the state of the character within the public consciousness.
  11. Totally awesome. Getting an AF 15 is really cool, but getting one under your circumstances is really unique. You're living the dream, dude.....
  12. While I wasn't as positive about the movie as you were, I wholeheartedly agree that people need to give it a chance, even if only on DVD, before crucifying it at the stake. Not a good movie in my estimation, but the amount of negative press that the movie has received is strange and somewhat unrelated to the quality, or even lack thereof, of the movie itself.
  13. Just got back from the 9:35 show at our local Wehrenberg, which was probably about 20% full. The crowd seemed to enjoy the movie, lots of little kids. Is it a good movie? No. Is it hell-on-wheels-Ishtar-in-tights-bad? I didn't think so. Not enough Reed, and he was miscast. Everyone else, I thought did a nice job. Thing really looked pretty good, and I like Jaime Bell as Ben too. His voice modulated to the Thing was an interesting effect and worked pretty well. I don't care about the black HT stuff. He was fine and did a perfectly fine job. Kate Mara's Sue actually was pretty intriguing. But......... Doom. Yikes. Talk about ting the bed......again. Aside from VVD, the biggest problems the movie had were a mediocre -script and a hatchet job in the editing room. The third act is abrupt to say the least. Overall, it's a "C-" in my eyes. Not the FF I've loved my entire life, but then again, taking liberties with comic characters on screen is nothing new. Probably liked it better, as a movie, than Thor: TDW, and both IM sequels. They're all bad probably, but at least this FF was interesting at times. Frankly, it's going to bomb. This is it. No sequels. The word of mouth in the industry alone is crippling, not to mention that the movie, while not as bad as expected, isn't very good or likable. It's a little too bad. Every now and then, I saw something in the movie that I liked. If the movie was just simply BETTER or more likable, enough to generate the buzz for ticket sales and an eventual sequel, maybe it could be an interesting series of pictures. I think they were MAYBE onto something. In fact, I've always thought that the FF just would never translate to film, but there's enough moments to make me think that in the right hands, at the right studio, and with the right -script, it would work fine. I appreciated the horror movie angle played up at times. And I liked the "scientists first, heroes second" approach as well. Better, or at least more interesting than the Tim Story FF flicks from a few years back, but this is the FF, and you've got to do better than this. C- I feel comfortable with that.
  14. Bravo!! All great books.......In a perfect world, FF would be the alpha dog of the SA Marvel titles. The most fulfilling run to put together IMHO.
  15. Man.....I'm thinking this is even going to come off worse than most had expected it to. Maybe it'll be the Ishtar of superhero flicks? I'm starting to think MI5 (which is pretty awesome, and the girl in it is hypnotizing) is going to beat the FF this weekend. Heads SHOULD roll, but it's Fox, so who knows....
  16. I have dogs & I play drums. Maybe I'm weird. Drums for me too, no pets at this time. Tuba/Piano, but I'm retired from playing. Miniature Schnauzer (Leemarvin), Cavalier KC Spaniel (Kirby).....not a shred of decency between the two of them.
  17. IF I end up having children....and IF I end up having a daughter......and IF she ends up looking more like my wife than me......I think I could pull this off too...... I hope the transaction doesn't end with him asking if he can call you "Dad". Just kidding....great story and looking forward to the pics.
  18. Here's a photo of the wall in my office. All early Marvel average grade 5.0, with the lowest being the 3.5 ASM #1 and FF #5 (which isn't visible in the pic due to the flash). No windows in the room to worry about, which is a plus.
  19. A friend of mine, who has no interest in comics and probably doesn't know anything about the FF other than Saturday morning cartoons, saw a critics screening. "It sucks." I'll probably go see it anyway, but I'm thinking that's a pretty accurate measure of the movie.
  20. I'm starting to think the movie may actually be more entertaining than this thread.
  21. All kidding aside, can it really be that much worse than AoU? We'll find out in a couple of days...........
  22. WOW. Great copy of a book that is more important to the Marvel publishing universe than some would give it credit for. Absolutely gorgeous copy. Congrats on a great score!
  23. 36-39M is my prediction. This thing is going to be DOA, regardless of quality. But I'm guessing it'll still be underwhelming. I'm in the crowd that wonders how an FF movie would actually work, which is weird because it always seemed so "cinematic" to me. Maybe a 1960's period picture.....I just don't know. The two movies from 10-12 years ago were somewhat honest to their roots (although Doom sucked and casting in general was a problem), and we see how they turned out. I'm guessing this is a better movie that is further removed from the source material. But it looks uninspiring, nonetheless.
