  1. The reason I was looking up this book this week is that a friend who died last year had a copy I sold him raw for $100 when it came out. He got it graded and it came back a 9.8, his widow got in touch with me about which of his books she should sell. I told her to hold onto it a bit longer
  2. Almost 4 years to the day. How's that $200 investment looking now?
  3. I'm the exception to that rule then because I love the 70's Marvel B&W mags. Savage Tales #1 with the 1st Man-Thing is always a good get in any condition! Working on a high grade Tales Of The Zombie set (have had my reader beaters for years), one of Steve Gerber's best scripts and Pablo Marcos's art is just incredible. I found a bunch of Deadly Hands Of Kung-Fu mags at a shop last week for $2 each with Iron Fist, White Tiger and Shang-Chi, I'll take them that cheap every day because so few shops around here every have any of them. Same with Vampire Tales and Marvel Preview, some great Blade solo stories in those, not to mention the Moon Knight solo issue But that's just me
  4. I never had a copy of AF 15 but had 3 opportunities to get one in the late 1980's early 1990's. 1st time as at my then-regular shop, it was on the wall for $180. I'm looking at the book, it was waterlogged and stained really bad and when I touched the cover, the color was coming off on my fingers - pass. 2nd time (90 or 91) I was selling books at a flea market, guy said he had AF 15 and ASM #1, wanted $300 each. Got his number, went to his house after. Both books aside from being very low grade has someone's name written in pen on the cover and every page of the book AND covered in white out - pass. Bought X-Men #1 in VG for $300 instead 3rd time (92 or 93) I was selling at a small show (counts as "in the wild" for back then), one dealer had a nice VG+ to VG/FN copy for $850. I was having a great day and could swing it, thought it over for a half hour, went over to his both - already sold I will never own a copy, I have accepted this fact
  5. I live 15 minutes away from the convention center and didn't go. $65 for a one day ticket plus $25-30 parking just to walk in there. Why bother
  6. Really, we lose onsite grading this year to Nickel City in freaking Buffalo????
  7. Ultimate Fallout #6 1:25 Djurdjevic variant with Jimmy Hudson front and center. Wait for it...
  8. Picked this up in a LCS back issue bin along with signed books by Kirkman and Moore. Anyone recognize the artist? Signature looks like "Ron" though it could be "Rob" or "Tron"
  9. So, I was thinking that after Secret Empire bombs (we all know that it will since Marvel can't do anything right lately) and Nick Spencer gets fired from Marvel and ends up being that guy on the street corner yelling crazy stuff at people, maybe, just maybe Bedlam will come back
  10. If they had put that cover out and not caved to the flannel shirt crowd, they would've sold way way more than the just over 30,000 copies that they did
  11. I got confirmation today via facebook msgr from CGC that they will not be doing onsite in Philly this year, didn't say why. It's such a crappy show that CGC onsite really is the only reason to buy a 4 day pass. Well, looks like I'm only going one day to buy sketches from James O'Barr, Ben Templesmith, Arthur Adams and Michael Golden. Seriously, CGC not doing onsite just saved me over $1000. Thanx guys!
  12. Is that definite? It's really the only reason I go because as a whole the show stinks. Maybe 3 or 4 artists worth getting sigs from and of the few people who are actually selling comics, it's all ebay prices and higher. I'm not buying a full weekend pass until I find out for sure that CGC isn't doing onsite
  13. If Marvel would continue to do "outside the box" titles like The Vision and Moon Knight, then I'll buy them, but those are few and far between. It seems like those recent gems only work because they're not intertwined with the current marvel Universe in the way of crossovers and event tie ins. Foolkiller and Man-Thing are 2 of my all-time favorite characters but both new series are so wretched that I didn't get through the 1st issue of either. It's like whoever is doing the books never bothered to read any of the classics to get an idea of what makes Foolkiller and Man-Thing who they are
  14. Which titles does that leave? Looks like almost everything is being cancelled. Wait for "Marvel Rebirth" with 50 all-new #1's Yawn
  15. Remember that great Captain America run immediately post-9-11 with the ultra patriotic covers? Cap was fighting Muslim terrorists, it may as well have been Bin Laden the way he was portrayed. Some tiny speck of a grievance group whined and they got cold feet and went in a different direction
  16. After Moon Knight ends I'll have no more Marvel pulls each month. They completely lost me by trying to attract a young SJW crowd, which doesn't buy comics at the rate of us middle aged guys who want to read some continuity with the books we've collected our entire lives
  17. It was decent but nothing that I'd watch twice
  18. Ep7 has to be one of the wildest things I've ever seen on TV and Fox should have Noah Hawley do the next X-Men movie. Imagine something on the big screen as crazy Legion as the franchise follow up to Logan and Deadpool! This show will be talked about for years after it end for sure
  19. The new layout is horrible and I have spent way less time on here since the "improvement." Takes too long to scroll through a topic page only to to get to the end and see one or two posts over the last 2 weeks. Whoever had the bright idea to fix something that wasn't broken, congrats. You did what CBCS couldn't do and that is kill the CGC community
  20. Either nothing is heating up or the more logical explanation is that the new boards blow nobody feels like dealing with it, scrolling all the way through. I'm going with "B"
  21. Forget about DC trying to catch up with Marvel/Disney, they also have to worry about catching up with Fox who have taken the term "decidedly different" to a whole new level in just the last year. I tried to like BVS but it was just so bad that I couldn't get through the whole movie in one sitting. If Ben Affleck wants to dress up as Batman he should do it drunk at parties, it'd be more entertaining I'm sure. DC/Warner should just throw a mountain of money Nolan's and Bale's way and do Batman The Cult with no major villain, make it rated R and have something historic
  22. I saw it Friday night and loved it! It invoked memories of my favorite Clint Eastwood westerns, mostly Unforgiven of course. Logan falling down and not being in the best fighting shape was much like Will trying to get onto a horse after so many years of being out of the saddle. I wouldn't even call it a "superhero movie" If not for the 2 characters with adamantium claws, the crazy old telepath, the albino tracker and those creepy kids with powers. Post apocalyptic western horror noir is the best description I could give it. Heading into seeing it, I thought about how they could do the Old Man Logan story without using the Disney property Marvel heroes and villains, and do it right; without it looking like something and someone was obviously missing. They nailed it perfectly and I wouldn't change a thing, even the running time didn't feel long to me because I was so interested in seeing what was coming in the next scene. No easter eggs to hunt down spec books, no push to sell toys or happy meals, no after credit scene to hype up the next chapter. They made the movie they wanted to do in the exact way they wanted and critics and audiences are applauding with good reason. I'm not going to bother talking about the last X-Men (which I didn't see), but after Deadpool and Logan, FOX is a force to be taken seriously and they are raising the bar higher by doing things differently. Disney/Marvel and especially Warner/DC should pay close attention
  23. Ummmm Strange Tales 178-181? I realize Thanos isn't in them, but there important parts of the forthcoming Thanos saga
